I recently moved and provided new shipping & billing address to Laithwaites Wine. The next shipment was sent to old address, however it took significant "discussion" to keep them from billing me twice. Their mistake became my mistake. I reminded them that I can't be held accountable for their lack of training and mistakes. Be a smart buyer and watch out for these inappropriate and unprofessionalism for a company promoting customer service.... Not in their actions! (read more)

I have learnt about my subscription order from my account balance. They told me they had sent a notification email before charging my credit card, but it is not true, I even looked up in the spam box. They do not give you a chance to cancel your order. I contacted them when my unwanted order had not been yet shipped but they told me to send it back to get a refund later. (read more)

We've been with Laithwaite's for years, and for good reason: wine was always good, customer service was first class. In recent times, I started to get unsolicited phone calls to 'discuss' my wine plan which I found annoying. There was then an error with payments which could and should have been sorted out quickly and conveniently by Laithwaite's, but wasn't. I gave them every chance but customer services didn't seem bothered if I stayed or left - so I left! Now looking for a new wine club... (read more)

I enjoyed the wine I bought a couple of years ago but you can buy as good or better from your local tescos or Asda without the shipping costs. The worst aspect is the spam phone calls- I have had two today. I am so fed up answering the phone 3 to 6 times every day to people who want to sell me stuff or me to claim for PPI or accidents I didn't have. i am thinking of silencing my phone permanently (read more)

If you like FINE wines, you won't like Laithwaites. If you're a wino, you'll find their wines to be OK but expensive compared to similar available in your local, low-quality, low-cost stores. I responded to a "$100 off coupon" for their "Gold Medal" wines with 3 free bottles of Chianti. They don't tell you which wines they'll ship to you beforehand. When I got them, the reviews were not so hot. In fact, even after my $100 "discount" the reviews said I could find this stuff readily... (read more)

The descriptions are enticing...gold-medal this and award-winner that. The truth in the bottle is Chateau Thames Embankment or worse. For the same money when shipping is included, the local wine outlet has far better offerings. One good result: I am drinking more water with dinner. But what to do with a stockpile (I kept thinking it would get better). Too some to a friend's party but he marked my name as the point of origin. That put paid to that ploy. (read more)

Just wanted to relay a good customer experience I had using Laithwaites. I ordered online and the delivery didn't arrive (postman left it with a dodgy neighbour or kept it to themselves, I don't know). Anyway when I phoned up Laithwaites they immediately offered to send out a second case, even though they hadn't tracked down the first one. It arrived two days later and they phoned up to confirm receipt that afternoon. :-) I thought they handled this situation very well. I doubt it was there... (read more)

Years ago I had initiated service with this company. For two years, my orders went through without a hitch. For the last two years I was in a location that they could not ship to and discontinued my service. Upon my return to an area the company ships to, I was contacted by them to resume my service, and did so at that time. The wines in my first shipment were almost undrinkable. I decided to take the plunge and order a Mystery Reds Case. My case arrived only two days after placing the order on a Sunday and I was eager to check what surprises there may be for me. You can imagine my slight disappointed when the first two wines pulled out of the box were both whites ! My partner and I used to be members of Laithwaites back in the day when they were called Bordeaux Direct. I just wouldn't use them. They took payment from my account quickly enough, and claimed to have delivered, but no wine ever came. I think this may have been a fault of their delivery company, who claimed to have left the delivery in a place out of public view AND had a signature for receipt of deliver (which is pretty odd), but this is the delivery company that Laithwaites uses, so I wouldn't have faith that I would receive a further order. After my sister and I persuaded her to cancel her membership and that she did not want or need any more I found an advertisement inviting mum to buy even more wine, several weeks after her letter telling them she did not want any more direct marketing.

I have been a member of this wine club for a few years now and I really like them. They don't sell really high-end wines, but they certainly don't sell low-end wines either. I must say I am pleased to find this review page as I too have become very disenchanted with Laithwaites/Sunday Times Wine Club and I was beginning to think that maybe I was wrong.
I have no problem with the service from STWC which I have always found to be excellent BUT.... 'swimming in poor quality wine' is exactly how I feel about STWC these days.
I have even tried some Mont. St Emillion and St Estephe from their own blend Le Grand Chais label but found the MSM to be Poor and the SE only Fair while, for the prices they sell these at, they should be good wines.
I then tried to select what I hoped might be some decent French reds, at least decent according to the STWC description, priced at £9 to £17. Have not yet tried the £17 'boutique' St Estephe but all the others were poor to awful, a real waste of money.
It really is such a change from 5 or 6 years ago.
