We tried to install Paperport on a Vista - 64 bit system, during the install, the setup crashed and we had to use up the free support call. Post install we find that documents load at a snail's pace. This is really disappointing considering the previous versions of the product. Would advice potential users to proceed with caution, you might want to weigh your options and look at alternatives such as Sohodox.

I'd been using PaperPort since version 7. I've got document scans going back 15 years. With XP, I upgraded to v.9 and then v.10. V.10 doesn't work well with VISTA 64, although "it works" but causes registry problems (eventually). I upgraded to v.11 on a spare VISTA64 machine, and it seemed to be fine for several months, until I started using my registry cleanup tool. On the other machine, which according to my cleanup tool is in tip-top shape, v.12 wouldn't install. I was able to install i ...

I upgraded to Nuance Paperport 12 Professional from Paperport9 standard.
It crashed my system by corrupting video driver and a bunch of other things that I can't get sorted out. Now Paperport 11 doesn't run either. Avoid it if you don't want to ruin your day. I am going to find a way to scan and file documents without going near Nuance products again. The technical support call will be on your long distance call to Manila and the "uninstall" tool for both PP11 and PP12 have caused the damage

Like most reviewers, I too used Paperport for years, starting with an old Visioneer flatbed. It was really great, and consistently rated number one by magazines and reviewers. Yes, once Nuance got it, the first release, which was 11 and required by VISTA, was absolutely horrible. I spent days and tried to get assistance from Nuance. They only said I could get an upgrade. i spent I think 40-50 dollars to get it and go through their activation and could never get it to work. I purchased a new ...

I have used Nuance PaperPort 11 for about 10 years, back to the days ScanSoft was the company. Ever since Nuance bought the company the software has taken a dive. I keep getting "not responding" messages, have to reboot and may or may not be able to keep scanning. They do not release updates in a timely manner, and forget about customer service. The cost is also high for a very marginal product. I'm looking for a replacement, enough is enough. By the way Nuance, I work for a Fortune 500 co ...

    1. Seamless conversion to PDF.
    2. Reasonably good image editing and management.
    3. Excellent auto-straighten feature.

However, horrific and invasive activation scheme lets you activate the software three times before you have to call the publisher and pester them for an "additional" activation. This is truly nightmarish if you frequently re-install windows as I do. I have wasted days of my life on this nonsense. This is a show-stopper unless you use the same computer without any reloads for fou ...

Here are the reasons NOT to buy PaperPort:1. Nuance is a horrible company. It takes a lot for me to say this as I work for a technology company as well, but their activation policy (you get three activations and thereafter must convince them you are not violating the license you paid for) is insulting, frustrating, invasive and incredibly time consuming. If you install PaperPort more than three times (I've installed it probably 10 times because I rebuild/reload numerous times per year) you are a ...

Had been using Paperport since early 90s. I was early on, pushing fellow lawyers on the paper free office concept and Paperport became a staple in my practice. With the switch to Vista I had to try Paperport 11. It is harder to navigate has only part of the functionality. Crashes with nearly every use. You have to activate it. You have to pay for support. You cannot download upgrades from the Nuance site without registering.

This is the sad end of an era. I am evaluating alternatives and ...

After years of using PP9, i upgraded to Nuance PaperPort 11 pro. What a waste of money. The program is horrible.

I run a small business and was looking out for software to manage my documents. I zeroed down to two products; one was Paperport 11 and the other was Sohodox.

Paperport is an easy to use software, packed with some powerful features. However I did not buy for the following reasons...
    1. Lots of bad reviews out here.
    2. They charge for support.
    3. Software activation required and there is a policy on the number of times you install the software.
    4. Its buggy and crashes quiet often.
    5. Runs s ...

Great way to manage and look at documents from diverse sources. Glitchy, Glitchy, Glitchy. I simply cannot get this product to scan and capture black and white images from a HP3390 all-in-one. Some parts of the program work great but this is the part that I need most. I would love for this product to work. Great concept; poor execution.

Seems to work once you figure it out. It can directly interface to the scanner. The PDF MCR mode seems to create much smaller PDFs than the HP supplied software. We're using an HP OfficeJet J6480. I believe that my Epson scanner and its software produced much smaller PDFs than the HP, which is why I tried this software.

I used PP 9 and was very happy. Bought vista computer and had to go to PP 11. I found it to very difficult compared to PP9.
My problem is adding an item to an existing file. I have not been able to get help from Nuance. Willing to pay $10. If necessary...

Also, icons appear on windows desk top. I will not be able to have that. Trying to figure out why. Paperport 9 was easy to use and filled my needs very well. PP 11 so far has only been a head ache for me personally.

Look for an alternative to paperport 11. Do not save your files to .max format, save as .pdf or .tif. When paperport dies how are you going to view your .max files?

It is sickening that with operating system upgrades we are forced to change much of our software to new versions, particularly when the new versions offers no additionally functionality and in some cases actually perform less well. I can't do without PaperPort - I have therefore gone back to Windows XP and PaperPort ver 9. For that matter I don't like Vista much either.

I'd like to punish Nuance with fewer stars, but there is still the remains of a fine program in PaperPort 11, so I have to give it 3 stars even though it infuriates me.

I've used PaperPort since version 6 and it's become indispensable to me. The new version has a few feature improvements, but it is terribly buggy and simply cannot handle large files (although it can create them just fine!).

If you scan colour or make large PDF files, forget trying to view and edit them in the PaperPort Vie ...
