This is a great buy. I would recomend this rifle to any one who is looking for a quiet small game / pest hunter . I have found the Gamo Rockets to be a very effective & most accurate round for this application.Mine came with the PBA raptor rounds but I have not read great reviews on this ammo so I have not used it. Gamo Magnum and Crosman field points are also accurate in my Viper and keep velocities in the 900-1000 fps range with good resultswith well placed shots on pests. (read more)

Having not fired any type of gun air or otherwise for at least 15 years I was very happy with the groupings I pulled off. The scope started low about 3 inches and left about 1 1/2 inch. This at 10 meters. I fired a second round(Gamo match 8.5"s) and at first I thought I missed the target altogether. After a closer look I had managed to make the first hole just a little bigger! The scope needed huge amounts of clicks to get it close, at first I wondered if the clicks did anything at all but... (read more)

Gamo's solution for this scope problem was to ship the scope to them and they will send me another scope (same scope with probably the same problem?). I would have been responsible for the shipping cost both ways. Gamo had no explanation for me and found was of no help. After this Gamo Viper, I will never purchase another Gamo product. (read more)

I received my viper in the mail and tightened all the scope mounting nuts with loctite. Confident that the scope was secured to the rifle adequately, I zero'd it in @ 10 meters; so far so good.
After firing off about 15 lead rounds I noticed the illumination for the reticle was fading in and out, most likely because of the immense shock from the spring. Another 15 rounds later I noticed the crosshairs were rotating off center. The scope hadn't shifted at all and I was still very near...

With the group I shoot with, my new Gamo Viper is one of the better looking and best performing air rifles, in my opinion and from comments by some of them, as well. A couple of them have even talked about buying one or two, themselves. I would have liked to get the same rifle, in stainless steel or nickel plating, just for the ease of maintenance and not having to worry about rain, though, after reading some other sites about the care for blued metal that may not be as much an issue. I also... (read more)

The Gamo Viper is an awesome air rifle. Its pretty quiet,. This gun is very accurate. Doesn't really have any kick, just a lot of vibrations from the spring. The only thing I didn't like was the scope. It was great to use, but it doesn't stand up to much abuse. I just barely waked mine carrying it, and the scope is loose. Overall, I would recommend this gun. Perfect for starters and well worth the money. (read more)

I have been fortunate enough to obtain plenty of firearm experience while in the military, qualified expert with M-16, M-203, M-60, and various handguns. Yes, the m-203 and m-60 give away my age. However, my point is that I was a bit concerned about purchasing a "BB gun" as we called them when I was a kid. Let me tell you, air rifles today are one heck of a deal and the Gamo Viper has performed extremely well. The scope was easy to sight in using a nice rest and target in the back yard at... I use this gun for hunting small game. It is powerful enough for animals up to rabbit or raccoon. This gun is very accurate with practice. I can shoot a 1/2 inch group of five at 30 yards using a monopod shooting stick. Shooting free hand the best I can do is 1.25 inch at 30 yards. This is my inaccuracy not the guns. If you are looking for a target rifle, this is not your gun. It has a pronounced kick being a springer. I bought mine as a combo with a BSA 3-9 x 40 scope. It sighted... (read more)

For the price this gun is super accurate. I was able to shoot a dime size hole in a 1/4" board and most the shots were going through that hole. The hole was made because the shots were so close. At about 30 yds. I was able to hit withen an 1" or so of were I was aiming, i think this could be tightened up with a better trigger. The trigger on this gun has a ver long pull, but should be ok once I get used to it. Overall though this gun is very nice looking, accurate, and easy to cock. I shot... (read more)

First, I have never owned an air rifle before buying the Gamo Viper, so I have little experience with other air guns. That being said, I really did my research. I searched the web and every store I could find that sold air guns. I asked questions of the sales people; most of them had no more knowledge than I did about the guns. I called or emailed the customer support people at various websites, trying to get good factual information. Most information was so general it was useless. Here... (read more)

I am thinking of getting an air rifle also and also know very little on the subject. Would you advise me to purchase the gun being 15 years old but only 5ft 3 inch's tall as you said that this gun was a bit too big for your children?

Joshyman55,
I did not know how to get a message to you regarding your request for advice, so I will just post it here in the comments.
My son bought a Gamo Sport carbine from Pyramyd air. It is light, easy to cock and just as accurate as my viper. It comes with a 4 x 32 scope and looks great. He paid $125.00 about half the price of my gun and really the only thing the Viper has over it is power. It is every bit as good as my gun for shooting in the basement at targets etc.

I'm planning on buying a viper and I was going to ask you a couple of questions (if you don't mind). 1. is it hard to cock?
2. does the scope slip on the mounts?
3. is it heavy?
Written on: 02/04/2007
Braulio1493. In answer to your questions.
The Gamo Viper is really not that hard to cock. I have four children, and they were all able to cock it. My youngest is 11 and he didn't like the heavier cocking effort. He bought a smaller Gamo (640 ft per second), and it is just as accurate on a 10 meter range, and so much easier to cock. If you want to hunt or use it for pest control, it is well worth it. If you just want to pop balloons and shot targets, go with something cheaper, lighter and easier to cock. One more thing... this was my first air gun, and it took me a few shots to get a pattern of shooting reloading etc. I always grab the very end of the barrel and prop the butt on my leg. If you grab the barrel, even 6 or 8 inches from the end you know it.

I installed my scope first thing when I opened the box, and after months it has not moved, slipped or needed to be readjusted for any reason. And I love the red dot. Keep extra batteries because someone will leave it on, and it will run down after a couple of days. After I got used to it I hate to shoot without it.

The Viper stats as far as exact weight, are probably available on Pyramyd Air, but as far as I am concerned it is not too heavy. I actually like the weight and size better than a smaller gun. I am 6'1" tall. My son (11) likes a smaller gun, but will still use mine (Viper) when resting on a table etc.

Hope this helps.
Mark.

Gamo Viper is a rifle and Gamo Viper Express is like a shotgun. I was interested in a rifle. This rifle continues to amaze, for the money it's very hard to beat.
An update on ammo. The Gamo Express ammo is absolutely accurate. You consistently hit what your aiming at. The groupings are very tight, quarter size (less than 200 rounds shot). The speed has not been measured due to lack of a crono.

Gamo Viper is a great air rifle. It's relatively easy to put together. Note - use locktite on scope mounts. The rifle has sighted in well, and seems to hold nice groups.
The rifle likes heavier pellets. The lighter the pellet the less tight the groupings were. The heavy match pellet was the clear winner. The new Gamo Raptor pellets are amazing. These pellets are faster out of the barrel, and really accurate.
This rifle has a synthetic stock that is well made and comfortable under...

The Gamo Viper Air Rifle is a best buy. The weapon is easy to load, easy to aim, and hits the target consistently. The weapon shoots heavy .177 pellets the most accurately. The special gold Gamo pellets are awesome, they are fast, really fast.
I would recommend this air rifle to the beginner and the experienced. It simply goes to the shoulder brilliantly, and hits the target with ease.
The cocking mechanism is simple, smooth and very quick. The consistency of cocking is perfect. ...
