    Good Points: Six hour buffer.

Bad Points: Occasionally fails to record on timer or records the wrong channel for no apparent reason.

General comments: I have had the Philips DVDR5350 for two years and, until recently, I was very pleased with it. Last month a fault developed with the DVD, it won't open and the message 'blocked' appeared. On enquiring from an authorised Philips service agent, I discovered that no parts are available for this machine. I contacted Philips and they said they would charge me £200 just to look at it. So no customer service available, be warned!

Philips should issue a product recall on all of this model number and offer a full refund to customers who take up the recall.

The product will prevent me ever purchasing another product from Philips.

Anyone who thinks you just plug this in and start recording think again you have to read the manual over and over again .I bought this for £109 and once set up it is excellent value for money.phillips support took five days to answer an e mail I had already resolved the problem before they got back to me. Apart from that excellent

My first review may have been a little unfair as Philips have swapped my unit for another one which (touch wood), seems to work as you would expect it to and is nowhere near as annoying. I may yet learn to like it... Although its no Sky+

The DVDR5350H is absolutely the worst piece of equipment I have ever owned - and Philips customer service are no help either, would not recommend to anyone.

Don't bother with the Philips DVDR5350H recorder. It's a great idea but it completely fails to deliver.

wow - where to start - this recorder is excellent

Truth is, it does a lot, so you gotta learn a lot.
    Techno phobes beware.

I was worried about buying this recorder after looking at other reviews here but I'm delighted with it. It does everything i want and more. I usually cant tell if I'm watching a recording or live TV.

Other recorders have reviews of start ups taking ages to happen. Well this recorder has taken no more than 10 seconds to come out of standby or go into any menu. The o ...

Nice looking box that does for terrestrial TV what Sky+ did for satellite.

On the face of it, Philips DVDR5350H is a good quality recorder and player, but it's really been let down on the software side of things, and with the fact that a Sky TV remote (that has been around years) uses the same or a similar frequency.

I am very close to taking this back to the shop and getting another make, which is annoying, as I chose Phillips as they are one of the well known names. Just goes to show you don't always get what you pay for.

Philips seem to have built this Philips DVDR5350H with decent hardware. If you're a better man than me, and you can actually use this device, the quality of the recordings is good.

Sadly Philips has really let the side down with the software. The device often seems to have a mind of its own, and the user interface is completely unusable.

I tried to persevere with it, which was a mistake because I may have been able to return it to the shop, if I had done so immediately. Definitely the wo ...

You have to read the Philips DVDR5350H manual. You have to get as far as Camera Mode to realise that the default mode of this machine is not like a tape recorder. If you want to record like a tape recorder then choose Camera Mode.

For the one who said that his screen was blurred, it will be, unless you set recording mode to High Quality.

Wished I'd read these reviews before I bought my Philips DVDR5350H! Concur with everything the other reviewers have said. Extremely difficult to set up and recorder seems to have a mind of its own. The GuidePlus option sounds great in theory but only seems to work erratically. I couldn't get it to download program listing info and couldn't get it to work with my Freeview box. I'm giving up and taking it back to Curry's. The Phillips helpline was totally useless - they seemed to know less than me ...

This Philips DVDR5350H is extremely difficult to set up and use. The remote control and menus are not in the least bit intuitive, this is one of the most ridiculously complicated recorders I have ever owned. It also seems to have a mind of it's own, selecting things on the menus without me even pressing anything and also just switches itself on and off as and when it feels like it. At one point, the DVD drawer started opening and closing itself and the only way I could stop it was to pull the ...

I purchased a Philips DVDR5350H DVD Recorder on the 12 August 2006 and returned it the next day for a refund.
The unit was extremely complicated to set up and the picture quality blurred with text unreadable compared to my set top box.
I was disappointed that there seems to be no real mention of it on the Internet with the exception of this site and can only assume this is a budget player for the facilities offered.

And don't get me started on "Time Shift"

We bought one of these but took the Philips DVDR5350H back after just a couple of days because it was so difficult to use. My main gripe was editing recordings (e.g. removing adverts). The interface lacks the precision to specify to the frame where you want to delete so you would either have to take several attempts at editing out an advert break or accept a few advert frames in the final edited program.
