Good Points: Very short, fairly light, high velocity, fast aiming.
Bad Points: Discontinued, difficult to cock, manual safety only.
General comments: The Beeman Bearcub is a spring piston break barrel rifle produced by Webley & Scott. Beeman sold this gun from 1995-1998. It came in .177 cal. only and is rated @ 915 fps. That is serious velocity when you consider that the gun is only 37.8 in. long and weighs just over 7 lbs. That makes it shorter than even the C1 carbine which is praised for its power and compactness. Although the Bearcub is heavier than the C1 it is also pushing the same pellet 85 fps. faster. It is a pint size magnum for sure. The trigger is not too great, a single stage non adjustable trigger that is a bit rough but like most things will smooth out over time and some good lube products really move things along. It sports a nice but not exotic beech stock with a cheek piece and the reciever is grooved for mounting a scope. It also has a manual only safety that some will not like and others will not mind at all. The gun incorporates a nylon spring tamer spring guide. This would be like an early version of tuning a gun straight from the manufacturer. It's a guide inserted into the spring to reduce spring twang. The front site is incorporated into a muzzle break which is threaded with a knurled cap to easily add on a silencer/moderator. The very short barrel on this gun (13 in.) means that leverage is not really present so cocking the gun is substaintial. Harder to cock than my Carbine R1 by a bit. I recieved the gun just a few days ago so off to the chrony to see how the gun is performing. Beeman Silver pellets were right at 885 fps. and according to the previous owner only about 100 or so pellets have been fired. So with some additional breaking in and a lube tune the velocity should come very close to the 915 fps. claim. The gun points quickly and effortlessly and when the trigger lets go the pellet is zipping its way to the target at very respectable velocity for almost any springer but considering the size of this gun it is very impressive indeed. I mounted a Leapers 6x32mm Bug Buster scope with Accushot 2 piece rings and this makes an excellent combo. For casual plinking or especially for hunting in the woods this gun is small enough to manuver around and through the trees, light enough to carry and will hit even good sized bunnies more than hard enough to dispatch them cleanly to at least 40-45 yards. If you do a bit of hunting in the woods or just enjoy carbine sized air rifles see if you can find a Bearcub and give it a once over, it's an impressive little machine.
