I used a Hillbilly for many years in England and became a fan. Upon moving back to the good old USA I was delighted to find that I could buy one here. I cannot speak too highly of both the product and the service I have received from the importer in California. The Hillbilly is very easy to fold up for transport in my car. It is suitable for all terrains and is very robust.

Having owned the original model HILLBILLY for several years { still going strong when i decided to upgrade to the new terrain]what a mistake ! the new model failed 3 times in the first 12 months [pedometer problems] third time just out of warranty followed by electrical problems traced to faulty wiring then original battery failure after 15 months Finally gave up the ghost 3 months ago with a total collapse of the mainframe thankfully on the last hole! i had to carry my bag and drag the the deceased trolley back to the clubhouse unfortunately only to find out later it was well beyond repair Would i recommend no! dont waste your money

I have also owned a Hill Billy Trolley for a number of years and any problems were sorted out promptly by Hill Billy. I decided to upgrade to the new trolley and within two years I have had two new motors wheels which kept falling off and pins holding the wheels falling out. Hill Billy arranged to repair the trolley and it was sent back. Since then I have experienced other problems.
However the worst problem is during the winter the front wheel gets clogged up which puts extra strain on the battery. In three years I have had three 27 hole batteries and the latest has just failed.

Having bought a hillbilly all terrain in Dec 2009 the thing ran ok for about 15 months then the problems started i've so far replaced the motor the gearbox the control switch the front wheel the back wheels the rubber was falling off the rims and a new speed control box which I found out later was not the problem after all (this was through a hillbilly agent in Edinburgh) so I would not touch this trolley with a barge pole

“Faults and faults!”

★★☆☆☆

written by on 14/09/2013

Bought a Hillbilly terrain trolley in 2009. Am now on third potentiometer [one replaced during warranty] and have also replaced several axle pins. All the rivets on the A frame failed and one day on a round I found the lower tube of the frame had become detached altogether from the rest of the frame - lucky I had some long enough elasticated clips in my bag to secure it! Eventually I had to replace all the rivets including those supporting the front wheel assembly with nuts and bolts. This was much a more secure option. I have replaced the front wheel with a domed Powakaddy one with no tyre on it. The tyre on the Hillbilly one wore out very quickly. I now need new tyres on the other wheels but understand such tyres are not available on their own so may have to buy two new wheels [ca £25 each] but am more likely to buy a new trolley [not Hillbilly]. The original handle broke - split underneath where the recessed nuts are. There were no accessories attached to it either - fixed it temporarily with jubilee clips but eventually bought a replacement which so far seems ok. The clutch on one of the wheels became detached when an axle pin broke. There appeared to be no securing screws on the clutch and there seemed to be no evidence inside the clutch or wheel that there ever had been! I re-attached the clutch with self tappers which seems ok. Can't think of anything else except that the original battery of four years old is still working although showing signs of wear which I can't complain about. At least they got something right!

“keep a spare hillbilly for parts”

★★★☆☆

written by on 05/08/2013

I have a hill billy for my wife and one for me. I bought two used ones on Craigslist to use for spares and after 5 years all the parts on the spares have gone to keep the two running. I'm now having an intermittent problem where one cart stops for no reason and then will start up again after a few minutes. I've replaced everything except the controller board with no success. If you aren't mechanically and electrically inclined I'd look for another cart.

“many problems with Hilly Billy.”

written by on 01/08/2013

I've had my cart going on 3 years. I live in the NE so I don't use it all during the winter. I had the battery replaced after 1 year. This year I have been unable to use it - it will run for a while, then stop, run, then stop. More parts than I knew exist have been replaced, but it still cannot run properly. I've needed to use and electric cart most of the time. As far as I'm concerned,I have a lemon. The company should replace my cart for free. I'll let you know the outcome.

“NO Problem”

written by on 18/04/2012

I have had my Hill Billy for over three years the design particularly the bag straps need improving. The only part I have had to replace is the switch. I have found the cart to be very reliable having used it over 200 times. Reading some of the other reviews is alarmimg and makes me wonder if it is all going to go wrong.

“Have had two HillBillys for 7 years. Still in use”

★★★★☆

written by OLYMPIC on 04/04/2012

We have two HillBillys which have worked well for my wife and I. Since there appears to be no distributors in Canada and we need parts in Calgary, we are hoping that nothing major goes wrong. It's really hard to find parts since the distributor in Canada is no longer selling Hillbillys. Help needed to find new battery charger distributors so that we can go on for another 7 years with a good product???

“3 Faults in 3 Months”

★★☆☆☆

written by Rob69 on 23/01/2012

Bought from Pro as a package with a bag on November 2011. Looked a good deal for £299. Changed from Powakaddy Freeway which was 10 years old and giving lots of trouble. Prices for new Powakaddy are ridiculous so I bought Hill Billy, naively thinking the Terrain would perform similarly to the old models my Seniors pals are still using after 10 years. The reality is Powakaddy now own Hill Billy and production of trolleys has moved to China from the UK. Is the golf trolley market too small for the Competition Commission to investigate how the market leader can take over its main competitor and potentially use its dominance to control the UK market? The 3 faults on my new trolley: Broken bottom bag stay caused by poor design and manufacture Noisy Gearbox getting worse by the day Had I realised the Hill Billy was made in China from Chinese parts I would have bought a cheaper

Sorry, editing problem, the 3rd fault is the trolley is creeping forward when switched off - a potentiometer of controller problem.

“Dont buy one”

written by captinbeek on 15/11/2011

Simply a waste of money. Myself and my son bought one each 2 years ago and we also had problems with rivets the strange pins they put through the Axel fall out problems with the battery etc. My sons started to make a noise we think it was the motor it has since given up the ghost mine has now started to make the same noise. Once it packs in its going on the scrap heap. Does anyone out there make a reliable trolly?

Owned my hillbilly for a year rivets break clearly not strong enough.also axle pins sheered off because they use barrel split pins(very poor design, lazy and not strong enough according to tool maker friend).asked hillbillys hopeless technical team if better components would be used for repair quoting this websites reviews.ignored the facts a question and there head of technical support said(if we replace the faulty parts your trolley will be fixed because it wont be broken anymore therefore it will be better)anybody else think that was sent by a 6 year old.

The 'Axle' pins are in fact things called ROLL pins and are in common usage on most trolleys. I have replaced them on other trollies with solid pins and on my All Terrain (after 18 months usage)with a stronger british made Roll pin. Hillbilly certainly didn't seem interested in helping me sourcing replacements, but of course it is difficult to get to speak to a 'decision maker' I have had much better service from distributors of imported chinese 'cheap and cheerfuls'

The ‘barrel split pins’ you refer to are in fact ‘Roll Pins’ used by most trolley manufacturers, and both mine rusted and broke up after 18 months of use. The Hillbilly ‘Help’ desk suggested I contact one of their approved repair centres! What for 3 Roll pins? I ordered British made replacements for a small cost and replaced them myself – I had previously replaced them on a cheap imported Chinese model, and the service I received from the Importer was much superior to Hill Billy

I bought my new hillbilly all terain less than one year ago and it has been nothing but trouble. First the rivets sheared on the A frame so I couldnt use it for a week. Next the battery failed, again another week until a replacement arrived and now the dam thing won't stop, park next to the green ready for the winning putt and its away across the fairway. Chuffing great, just what I need. Back to the workshop yet again. I am pig sick of it. I have just e-mailed Hillbilly to say I want a replacement. If you are thinking of one. THINK AGAIN

I have had a Hillbilly terrain for just over 2 years and its been 1 problem after another.

Had to replace clutch, gearbox, control unit, wheel broke, axle pins fell out twice and 2nd battery recently failed. Mud constantly clogs up front wheel so you are forever having to tip trolley up during a round to clear it out during winter rounds.

Just bought a motocaddy s3. its so much superior in every way. Spend the extra £100, the hillbilly will mug you of this amount in repair bills within 2 years anyway!!

The Motor caddy S3 suffers from the same serious fault as the Power Bug ‘Digital’? Models. The on/off Digital switch is way Too sensitive and is situated in a dangerous position on top of the handle and on both these machines I have had experiences
of them being suddenly set off by accident and nearly causing injury to fellow golfers. Very poor and dangerous design

I have had my "All Terrain" trolley for 18 months,it is quite clearly poorly named,it just does not cope with wet muddy conditions, the single front wheel assembly clogs up at least three times a round, necessitating the trolley being tipped up and the mud cleared out,not condusive to a good game of golf. I have had it modified locally into a two wheel assembly at a cost of £35. Also find it heavy to lift and put into car.

“I purchased a Hill Billy New Terrain recently second...”

written by Mugadoon on 15/11/2010

I purchased a Hill Billy New Terrain recently second hand and now fully understand why the seller wanted to get rid of it. They look good but on very close inspection the pop rivets holding the frame are badly put in. I have replaced two. Since getting the trolley the printed circuit controller card has had a condenser fall off which allowed excess amps to the motor and virtually burnt out the motor brush housing. The printed circuit board (Controller) has been badly manufactured and if you check under a magnifying glass you can see that it has been very badly assembled. (probably by hand) I have had Hill Billy trolleys from the word go and believe me their previous models knock spots of the New Terrain. I have contacted Hill Billy and I am afraid they are not very interested. They offered new parts POST FREE. There are plenty of makes on the market these days and I will look at other manufacturers.

I have recently bought a hillbilly terrian and my first impressions are good. its when made and i like the chunky feel of it. i personally dont think that it is that heavy but this is my first electric trolley and dont have anything to compare it with. the speed settings are fine for me and often find it dragging me up a hill or too and the 10,20, 30 yard buttons are great! hopefully i will be reporting back in months to come on how good my hillbilly is...........fingers crossed :)
