This is a very reliable car. It is not a Ferrari or Range Rover, however, provides enough space for a family of five. The bad points is it is loud and the windscreen pillars provide an obstruction, however, you will soon get used to it. It is without doubt, one of the most reliable cars I have owned. The parts are cheap and easy to find. If you start assessing yourself which is the most popular MPV out there, thus, you will see more of these cars than any other MPV. This is for a... (read more)

This 2L Citroen Xsara Picasso was a Dixons ex-dem car, ease of access onto the higher seating was a major bonus, time proved the car was capable of almost any task, being in SX trim I had little luxuries built in, armrests, tables etc. One minute it was a comfortable, roomy 5 seat limousine capable of holding motorway speeds all day without stress, next with seats out it was being loaded with a complete bathroom suite from Wickes [and the tailgate door shut]. Our car starts first time every time no matter how hot or cold the weather is. We live in Scotland so we need a reliable car like this. Perfect! The paint work is also first class. About three or four years ago, after a while looking for cars, we turned our eyes, from the Toyota Avensis to the Citroen Xsara Picasso and it immediately struck us as a good car.
It was large but still not large enough for high tax, the middle seat in the rear was an actual seat(!) and finally, the fact that it was a diesel.
This large car offers plenty of legroom, a good seat pitch and great storage.
It's a good car! - Get it!

In five months my Citroen Xsara Picasso spent 7 days in the garage for major faults. The handling is appalling, the trim is dire, the seats not fit for humans, the brakes are weak, it is like driving a Comma van of the 1970s. I have never been more disappointed in a vehicle. Why did I buy one then? I really do not know, I can only suggest that any prospective buyers should be aware that they are not buying a vehicle of quality, such as with the many Far Eastern marques. You must have a bad maintained model being a vehicle mechanic the 2.0 hdi engine is one of the best diesel engines available others may say different but thats there choice im on my second picasso now my first diesel had 267,000 miles on it and the only major fault was at 120,000 the head gasket went other than that i only had small normal runing faults the car was very good on fuel for its size and comfotable even with the 267,000 miles it still had plenty of power returned good mpg and the interior was still very clean the only bad points i found with the car was the a pillars restrict view at junctions and the performance was a bit slow but after fitting a intercooler this took power up to 110 bhp and after chipping the ecu the power went to around 135bhp myself and my family have been all over with the car and it never let us down ( apart from the head gasket ) the only reason we changed to another picasso was for a later car people may say french cars have poor built quality and are not reliable i would agree if we where talking about very early citroens like the ax and some models of the bx but the later cars have improved a great deal and another plus with the picasso is the body is galvenised so you have no rust problems ( unless its had poor accident repair or been very neglected ) yes if you push the car hard into bends the handling is not great but its not a sports car so dont expect the same degree of handling but if you want a very good family car which is good on fuel and reliable the picasso is very good in my opinion plus if you remove the rear seats you have a small van now we will probaly get other people who will disagree with a lot ive said but people are entitled to there opinion but i would recomend the picasso to anyone wanting a vehicle of this type after all it has been voted best mpv for quite a few years now thanks alex

By far the cheapest, daftest-looking, economical and flexible car we've ever bought. Computerised instrumentation is excellent and 'van-type' driving position very helpful. Roadholding is much better than expected and always feels secure, though steering is a bit vague and imprecise. Offers tons for the money, though, and ours has been fairly reliable and servicing acceptable. We're buying another shortly for less than we paid first time around and going for the Exclusive this time. (read more)

Apparently the dash panel display software has failed - the replacement of which was the bargain price of £650; coming with 1 years warranty, a smile, and a steep learning curve for the owner.

Citroen Xsara Picasso SX 2.0 HDi - Generally good vehicle. Why Citroen only used the 90hp hdi engine when there was an 110bhp version avaliable is strange. I owned a Santia hdi 2.0ltr 90bhp and that was fine, but the Picasso is a much weightier car and I feel that sometimes, especially when overtaking, it feels like a uphill struggle. The first thing to go wrong was ten seconds after I got into my Citroen Xsara Picasso SX 2.0 HDi. I adjusted the internal rear view mirror and it fell off.
The controls are poorly thought out and inconsistently positioned and indicated. You can't compare an Audi to a Cit Picc, doing 400 to 500 miles in a day - I've done over 400 in a day in my Picc and i had no problems - if you hire a car you won't be used to the seats so you will get fatigue - it's a fact
How can you relate to driving at 40 MPH and 80 MPH with the windows down to check conversation as a reflection on the car? - shut the windows and put the air con on!! - if you wan't to do 80 MPH with the windows down buy a convertible

Shoddy build quality ?? - find a similar mini mpv spec car for circa 10K o.t.r. with better build quality

How often do you need to control the rear electric windows from the front? so does it matter where the controls are ? - it's not too hard to find them

The dash illimination is adequate day or night - i suggest an eye test may be in order

This is one of the nicest and best loved family cars I have owned. The whole family simply loves it. Our previous cars have included a Mercedes C180 and a Ford Mondeo.
It trounces all competition as a family transporter and is even enjoyable to drive. Unlike the Scenic and all the others it offer 3 full size adult rear sets and bags of legroom. Citroen just need to improve the front seat support and tighten up the handling.

They also love the in flight tray on back of front seats. We bought them a DVD with TFT screen for the car, it sits on tray and straps round head rest, what a great invention, keeps the kids happy for hours.
