George Clooney's directing debut, Confessions Of A Dangerous Mind is a frustrating affair; so much is good, but with so much potential - original story, screenwriter, cast - good is not quite good enough. And changing the ending? Okay, the ending of the book is a downer, but the film's ending is hardly uplifting, and jars with everything daring and original that has gone before. Having said all that, the director handles a complicated shoot with the apparently effortless cool he brings to his own performances. While I wouldn't say this film is one you can't afford to miss, I would say watch out for George's future efforts.

Confessions of a Dangerous Mind Review; Chuck Barris was the host of American TV smash The Gong Show - but was he also a government hired killer, or just a delusional loon? George Clooney's directorial debut doesn't give us the answers, but the film is stylish enough and held together by strong performances, especially from Rockwell, and a string of star cameos. The problem is, because you don't know if it's real, you end up not really caring.
