Apparently, Cafe Gandolfi one of Glasgow's least kept secrets - fab food, incredible service, locally made furniture (available to order), locally sourced food, and local artists' work decorates the walls, and yes, these are for sale. Just ask the waiter or waitress, who may well be the artist in question! Wonderfully welcoming, but don't tell anyone!
The modern twist was a twist I certainly wasn't expecting! Ordering Venison, I expected a sizzling rich lump of lean, flavoursome meat, but I got a carpaccio instead. The Neeps and Tatties with the haggis was predictable enough, and it was good, but I'm nervous of ordering when the "modern twist" appears to risk spiralling out of control. It is best to question your server on ordering, as to the nature of the food.
Cafe Gandolfi is very good, lovely setting, great quality and local produce, but check out the dishes with your serving staff when ordering. I'll go back next time I'm in Glasgow. And the boss is a top bloke too, and he plays an integral part in the running of the business.
