The hinges on my Toshiba SD-P1700 that allow you to open and close the dvd player are weak and break very easily! and BEWARE! Toshiba has not honoured their warranty! I found out the hard way!!!!
If you have this model be very careful when opening and closing the dvd player! We will never again purchase a Toshiba product!

Over three years on from the date of first purchase (July 2006) this DVD player has stopped working properly. Now it is treating all commercial DVDs in the same way it was initially treating home-made ones: lots of freezes and failures to recognise disks that my other portable DVD players play perfectly. In addition, all SD card movie files are suffering from the same problems. The player is now unusable and fit only for the trash.A brief search on the Net has revealed other users with almost identical issues on SD-P1700.

<br/>So it seems that what was originally perceived as a fine piece of kit has turned out to be something of a lemon. I wouldn't mind so much if this player had been used a lot. But it's only had casual use. Therefore it should definitely have lasted longer than it clearly has.
