The National Lottery website is diabolical. They need to catch up with the rest of the world when it comes to ease of use, navigation, user friendliness. They make it impossible to set up and manage an account online.
First, their password system is a joke. I tried to set up an account but it would not accept ANY password I tried to enter. Capital letters, numbers, names with numbers, places with numbers, it just wouldn't work.
I rang them after several frustrating hours and they responded that their system is set up for 'security reasons' (boy am I sick of hearing that excuse for diabolical service), it needs to be completely random.
So in other words, to set up an account with them you need to set up a password that you will NEVER remember. The only password I could get to work 'qwurtybv01'. Is it any wonder I couldn't remember it?
When I went to sign in to play the lotto, of course I couldn't log in because I couldn't remember the stupid password. I eventually rang them with no success so closed the account.
I am not able to buy tickets in the shop, the whole idea of online is that it should be convenient (it is not, it's a headache), easy to use (it's not that either) and make my life easier when in fact it made things harder.
I hate their website and their convoluted security protocols that are over the top and make their website unusable.
I think some of the comments here are related to accounts opened before they 'updated' their security protocols for no good reason. If you try to set up an account now you will not be able to set up a password that you will remember, the site will ONLY accept random nonsense.
I bought some premium bonds instead.

I've been playing the National Lottery online now for about 3 years. The site itself is very easy to navigate, and you can easily find the games you want to play.
I generally just do the lucky dip option, couple of clicks and my ticket is purchased. I particularly like the way you get sent an email to tell you if you have won anything. Before I had to remember where I had put the ticket, usually scrunched up in my wallet!
You have your own account setup, which you can top up or even withdra ...- Read Taylott's review (123 words and 1 comment)

We Spend a lot of our time in Spain, so renew my National Lottery numbers while i am there, we have been told that of i renew on my numbers on my Spanish computer and win a large amount that we can not claim it. I am a British retired person with a British passport, British driving licence, English bank account.
We have done the lottery since it started, and do the same numbers each week, so why are we penalised for being retired and enjoying our time in Spain.
