“This was a mixed affair, but overall it was positive. ...”

This was a mixed affair, but overall it was positive. Prices are low because the company is based outside the airport. This is explained on the website, and we had no problem with this. We had to wait about 10 minutes to be picked up, which was OK. We'd booked a "Hyundai i30 or similar", and they tried to give us a Nissan Micra - the same appears to have happened to another reviewer. I explained that this was not "or similar", and that they weren't the same class of car: in Australia, an i30 is a small car and a Micra is a light car. I explained that I wasn't leaving until they gave me a car that I could fit my luggage in. In the end, they gave us a Nissan X-Trail for no additional fee. The car was in great condition.

The good customer service came afterwards. During the rental period, someone rear-ended me. I called the office to let them know, and they told me to get the driver's details, which I did. I fully expected to have to pay the A$ 550 excess and claim it back from the other driver. But when I returned the car, they said there was no need to pay anything, and they'd sort it out with the other driver's insurance company. Dropping the car off was quick and easy, and we were taken straight to our terminal.

“AirportCar Rentals - Melb.Web Site is quite straight...”

AirportCar Rentals - Melb.Web Site is quite straight forward & easy to use. There are 7 models of vehicles with rates + $19 extra for collision damage waiver to $550. So I selected a Corolla Sedan + Waiver for 3 days.
When we reached Melb airport, we had to call, waited for 15 mins for the pickup van - a 10 min drive to their office. I was informed that if I want to waive "Single Vehicle Damage Liability" of $5000, I have to pay another $5 per day.I was then taken to a Nissan Micra when I have booked a Corolla Sedan "Apparently they are the same class of cars"!! & they do not guarantee the same car that is booked. Yes the car was new.

Only got a star because I can't leave it blank. I had to cancel my hire on the day, and called the office to explain. The guy on the phone said they might charge $70 or $80, which I considered fair enough, short notice cancellation and all that.
I was then billed the whole amount $800+. Attempts to even get a response from head office via many emails are futile. They are nothing short of thieves. Don't even think about giving them your money.

“Goldstar rentals are located in the airport at Palma....”

written by tbird722 on 03/09/2009

Goldstar rentals are located in the airport at Palma. I hired a Ford C Max and it was one of the poorest cars I have ever had. Two serious rear impacts, numerous scratches, wheel trims missing and filthy seat inside.
The cost (with extra insurance) was over £600 even though I booked early. Since then I have tried to contact the company via email, letter and phone calls to gain compensation but have had no reply. I have now had to pursue them through my credit card vendor. This is my second and final rental via this company.

“Their office is a 10 minute drive from the airport, so...”

Their office is a 10 minute drive from the airport, so they have to pick up customers, take them back to the office, fill out the paperwork, and then hand them the keys to their rental car.

Our driver was waiting in the wrong location, despite the specific details provided by the phone representative. He failed to introduce himself to us. The car would not accommodate our luggage, despite us specifying details upon booking. In short, the driver's communication and organisational skills were very poor.

At the office, the computers were down, both at pick up and drop off. Either these guys have terrible luck, or something fundamental is wrong.

The key for the car was one that had an integrated remote for the central locking. The key was sticky-taped to the remote, because it had been broken previously! During the week we had the car, the repairs to the key failed, and the car would not start without the key and remote held together with two hands!

If you want a cheap ($) and nasty (quality) experience, Airport Rent a Car is the one to go for.

“This company offers affordable car rental where they...”

written by canadasurf on 09/04/2008

This company offers affordable car rental where they come and pick you up at several Australian airports and bring you to your car hence allowing them to charge less because of the fact they do not have on-airport rents. Staff arrived 45mins late, did not apologized, complained that it was his head office fault not his. When we saw how casual about it all, we told him that this was not professional. He refused to rent us the car and left without explanation.
