Carte Noire does make a fresh ground coffee as well. I haven't tasted it yet, but if the instant is this good then the ground is bound to be fine indeed! This is the best instant coffee I have ever tasted. No bitter, flat 'nut' aftertaste. Has an almost sweet backtaste like chocolate, but without the 'sweet'.

I love good coffee - by which I mean, freshly ground coffee, preferably from good quality, recently-roasted beans. That said, there are times when freeze-dried instant is a potentially useful, perhaps even essential alternative. In such circumstances, Carte Noire is, by far, my favourite. As instants go, it has a great taste, great smell and is one of the cheapest instants around! Better than most instants at considerably less money!
    Good full taste and aroma.

I would recommend to save your money. For me, Carte Noire ground is not special at all. Ask your friends to bring you a pack of Carte Noire (bean) from their trip to Europe.

Carte Noir is an instant coffee. As such, it cannot compete with freshly ground filter or espresso brands, however, compared to other instant coffees it is superb. It has a full-rounded heady aroma, and makes for a strong aromatic cup of coffee. Recommended. My rating: 82%
