“I have been using the service for 10 years. I ask you...”

written by mygeka on 25/02/2024

I have been using the service for 10 years. I ask you to withdraw the good reviews that I wrote about them. The service has definitely deteriorated. The last 2 bookings were a negative experience. Payment was taken twice: on the website and at the car dealership. The dealership gave me a different car than the one I had booked, in poor condition. Prepayment cannot be returned. Long correspondence with this company does not lead to results. It is clear that the company is in a sad state and will close soon. Unfortunately, you will have to give them up forever. I don't recommend it!

“They didn't give us the car”

★☆☆☆☆

written by zeno74 on 11/09/2023

I was travelling from Sydney to Vienna 30 hours. Couldn't wait to get the car and drive another 2 hours to our hotel but they didn't give us the car. They said international driver's licence was required. When I asked where was that written, they said it's on the voucher. I asked them to show it to me but they couldn't, because it was not on the voucher. We had to hire a car from another company which was next to them and we ended up paying more than twice as much. Interestingly they didn't ask for international licence. We didn't even get the deposit back! It was not economical at all.

I've been very disappointed by my recent experience with ECR after using them for a car rental from Orlando airport with a car supplied by Dollar. The main incentive for using ECR was their 'Zero excess' insurance but Dollar looked at my suppled paperwork from ECR and told me that this insurance isn't covered by Dollar and I would be responsible for the slightest scratch to my rental car. I was also charged around $40 Dollars more for the rental as the representative at the airport desk said that was the amount that he had on his system for me to pay. I immediately contacted ECR and although I received a promise that this would be looked into and dozens of emails to them (with assurance that this has been escalated to a priority) I am still to get a reply about these 2 points some 11 weeks later........things can not take this long to check with Dollar. I would not recommend using this company as you just can't get any form of proper response from them......why was I overcharged and why as a UK citizen was their insurance not valid in America, surely that's 2 very simple questions to respond to?

I booked a car through this website and paid with an AMEX. The vendor did not tell me that the actual car rental place does NOT accept AMEX. When I arrived I was given a choice of not getting the car or paying 3 times as much as was quoted. The vendor responded to my query by saying that informing clients of this is not up to them but up to the client to do their research. I'm saving you the trouble, use this vendor at your own risk. Pay a little more and ensure you don't get ripped off like I did.

“Horrible experience- never book with Economycarrentals!”

When booking I entered my husband as the main driver, but on reservation voucher the system put me instead. So we had a problem in morocco because i did not want to drive. We had to pay extra for additional driver- my husband, who should be the original driver anyway. I think that happened because I used my credit card for the reservation. They are not answering email, no customer support!!! Horrible!

“Worst experience ever and Worst after sale support ever!”

★☆☆☆☆

written by FiLnice on 13/10/2022

This is what happened to us...i emailed twice to Economycarrentals but they never ever had the decency to reply! WE DEMAND TO BE COMPENSATED FOR OUR RENTAL AND THAT YOU STOP WORKING WITH "CARWIZ" AND DO A PROPER CHECK WITH THE COMPANIES YOU COOPERATE...THIS COULD HAVE BEEN VERY DANGEROUS FOR ME AND MY FAMILY! “The most dangerous people to rent from...stay away! We booked a car and after arriving at the place the car which we were given was a Fiat Punto and from the first look i did not like something. My wife was not so keen either as we also had our little daughter 2 years old with us! The child seat we got which we paid 30 euros rental for 5 days was in just ok condition! I told the person in charge that we had paid for a car in the category of Suzuki Ignis and that we should get a newer car in a better condition. He assured me that the car was fully serviced and was in the same category. The man for 6 minutes was noting down scratches which there were so many around the car. Anyhow we left and on the motorway when we would go above 90 km per hour there was a weird noise at the front of the car. We decided to drive around 70 km per hour until we reached the village where we had booked. It was late so next day morning i called the office and a lady told me that if i feel uncomfortable with the car i should drive it back (1 hour drive) to get another one. She said i don_t have 2 people available to pick it up as we need 1 person to drive the platform and 1 person to bring a new car for you. I told the lady why? Send one person with the new car and he/she can drive ours back. She said no we cannot drive a car that might have an issue?! So i asked her _you don_t want to take the risk driving the car back but you want me to take the risk and bring it back?_ It was our holiday time so for the sake of my family being safe i decided the next day early in the morning to drive it back. The car had no battery...so i had to push back and forth in order to u-turn so that i could gain speed as there was a bit of decline. Managed to start the car and on the motorway i could hear a weird sound still around 70 km and frankly honest was not comfortable at all. 30 minutes before arriving at the office at Herakleio the steering wheel was disabled along with the radio going on and off...things were shady with this car and i am glad i managed to drive to the place in order to get a different car. Worst experience ever and i did warn them that they are dangerous people and what if anything worse would happen if we were with our little girl...such people should get their license taken and the authorities should had been checking if they actually service their cars and they are not operating just to get some cash from people.”

Rented a car with insurance from EconomyCarRentals in Dublin airport on April. I damaged the car which the policy covers, and the company refuses to pay me back the cost of repairs (€1,403.59) under the excuse of not receiving an email from the rental company for 2 whole months and counting (if they really wanted the information, a simple phone call will sort everything immediately). Looking into hiring a lawyer. Be careful when dealing with this company.

“been charged 3 times more than supposed to”

★☆☆☆☆

written by SAndryszkiewicz on 14/04/2022

We have not accepted additional rental insurance, which we have been charged (78 euro for 3 days). We hold a 1-year excess insurance policy to avoid paying extortionate "premium insurance fees" As we paid 35£ for 1-year premium insurance excess. . So if they have said anything about buying premium insurance, we would have declined it, but the staff at the rental desk didn't even mention any insurance.  We have been told that we are just paying the rental fee and fuel admin fee and fuel charge. If the vehicle is returned with a full tank, this would be refunded. We were under the impression that we are paying Euro 52.98 and on top of that a refundable fuel deposit.  They have also charged us for an additional driver for 3 days, despite adding the additional driver for 2h on the last day of the booking: Then they charged us for "paying with a debit card" - despite paying with a credit card and this was their justification for charging us the premium for the insurance. This is unacceptable and we will not be paying for these charges. We haven't even been given any documents to sign. So as far as I am concerned, we are only liable to pay for the 52.98 for the rental and 1 additional day for the driver.  I understand that you are just the agent who took the booking, but you should be the one looking after us, not them,

written by Franciscosanchez on 08/02/2022

I made a reservation with this company. I paid extra money for a full refund policy. 3h after the reservation I asked for a refund and i was denied. They offered a discount for half of the amount paid in the next rental, which i obviously denied. Do not make the mistake of getting misguided by their apparently cheap price, it's all a fad. I now have to deal with my bank to file a charge back, i really dont care about the money, it was only 130€, but i really cannot let this people win. Deficient customer service. Rude and they only pay you attention when you tell them you are going to try to file a charge back.

“Terrible Experience!”

★☆☆☆☆

written by KonstantinosE on 08/09/2021

Terrible experience. I trusted TrustPilot in order to proceed with a car rental via EconomyCarRentals and it went from bad to worst. I wanted to rent a car for a week and I paid full insurance in order to avoid the deposit on my credit card. When I went to the rental company they had made the booking with, called "Green Motion" near the Athens airport, the lady at the reception had a really bad attitude from the moment we walked in. (You can check the reviews on Google and you'll know what I mean) Anyhow, we got to the point where she told me they would keep a deposit of 806,00€ and that the agreement of full insurance was between me and EconomyCarRentals which seems like a joke. So in case anything happened I would have to pay the rental company and then try and get the money back from EconomyCarRentals... In the voucher I got after I made the booking it says Excess:806 EUR for damages and theft 1450 EUR and below it says Guarantee / Deposit / Bond:806 EUR. So they are basically saying we cover you for 806,00 EUR damages but there is also a deposit of 806,00 EUR on your credit card... In the end I did not get the car because my credit card limit was exceeded (guess what, that's why i booked full insurance at first place). I offered the company credit card because I told them my company would be paying for the car but they could not accept it because it was not under my name, which is understandable but I was trying to find a solution. The lady at the "Green Motion" car rental company did not care at all, she never tried to find any solution, she just said call your agent (ECR) and cancel the booking for all I care. When I called ECR a representative told that they cannot return the pre-payment of 90,00€ (Which is approx. 3 days car rental payment, 31,00€/day) I had made because it was my fault I did not provide the credit card for the deposit. I learned the hard way but a piece of advice to anyone reading this. Book a car directly with a car rental company and not through agents who claim to offer you better prices, you never know in what kind of trouble you will find yourself. They may keep the 90,00€ deposit if they are so eager for money but they sure lost more than 1 potential customer. I definitely will warn all my business associates about this unpleasant experience.

This review is by association with Yesaway. I rented a vehicle through EconomyCarRentals. The supplier was Yesaway. I have been waiting 3 weeks to have my deposit returned. I have called Yesaway multiple times. I have asked for a supervisor and never spoken to one. They have indicated they would give me a return call. It has never happened. I recommend not using EconomyCarRentals because of their association with Yesaway.

“Even in COVID no flexibility”

written by Brooksxx487 on 08/06/2021

Terrible company to deal with, with all the chaos going on, you would think that they would be reasonable with late cancellations etc but no. It appears an email didn't go through to them when we cancelled our booking and as a result they are refusing to transfer their charges to a rebooking. Remarkable profiteering. Used them many times but never again, be warned, zero customer care, typical of the bucket shop they are.

Hi there. I had the same problem last year. Don't change it on Economy car rentals system. Email the car hire company directly and it won't cost you a penny - they don't usually mind if it's just a few hours time change here and there. I did this and they were very accommodating. Hope this helps you out.

We have never had an issue. Their policy is to cacel the order ,then reorder, probably a cleaner way than amending a booking. We have done this many times now to amend the timeor if we find a cheaper car hire. We have always been refunded in full what we have already paid. Never have we lost out financially.

Hi, If I understood the concern correctly, I would say that I have never had any issues if collection time has changed. Every now and then, the airline schedules change, but it has never caused an issue with car rental. Normally, I just put the airline code to car rental reservation and that's it.

Call the rental company and ask if they will deliver later. I did this in Belfast, only collected earlier. All they asked for was my name. No extra charge.
Report this content Sophocles.S Written on: 08/03/2017
If you want to pick up the car 3 hours later there would be no problem if it is within working hours, please check that at "Terms & Price Details" when making the reservation. It is not necessary to inform the car hire company in the case especially if you refer your flight number to car rental reservation. Some companies prefer to cancel and reorder, but my opinions do nothing.

Hi,whenever I have required further information or any queries after receiving the voucher from economy car rentals I have dealt directly with the car hire company. Recently we booked a car for 6 weeks in USA and were aware of the 30 day limit and the need to re-hire the car after 30 days. This was easily resolved with the car hire firm. When you request a change with Economy Car Rentals, they would have to re-book the car for you and this is likely to cause a change in price.

My experience of economy car rentals - like other car rental firms - if that when you get to the rental agency of your booking they will try to sell you various upgrades for insurance and other items -- all of which you can decline. you do not need to make additional payments.
Report this content oferyuval Written on: 19/02/2015
To add to TommyZulu answer, there is an access to pay in case of damage or theft. You can buy "0 access" insurance. This insurance refunds any such access.
Report this content marko_2011 Written on: 19/02/2015
Never ever use economy car rentals or any this kind of "search engine" to book a car. First of all, they are not a rental company, they are a middle man, who always try to sell their "insurance" with the booking. The booking is then done/forwarded to another company, which of course try to sell their insurance for the car. If you have taken the economy rental car insurance and refer that to the actual rental company they just say that they have nothing to do with it and rightly so. Then if you have an accident, you have to pay the full price of the accident to the rental company and afterwards try to collect from economy car rentals, and let me tell you it is hopeless. So my suggestion is always deal directly with the car rental companies!
Report this content LarsB Written on: 19/02/2015
Stay away from Economycarrental. Go directly to the rental agency. Its same price and with less complications.
Report this content tohotom Written on: 20/02/2015
I don't understand why people are telling not to use economy car rental (ECR) or orther agencies. They compare all the prices and give you the best one (or sometimes even better!) saving you at least the time of comparing all prices. It also has some drawbacks (e.g. you don't know the real car provider in advance) but you have to weight pros and cons before making the decision. It is also true, unfortunately , that the price you see is in most cases not equal to the price you pay :( About your question: it is not clear what you are asking. "Excess" usually refers to the maximum amount you need to pay in case of accident or theft. This is somewhere between 500 and 1500 EUR, but can be reduced to 0 by buying additional insurance either from ECR or at the location. (These 2 are different) If you ask whether all prices are included, then the answer is: it depends. A couple of years ago the price you saw on ECR was the price you had to pay. Now you need to read carefully all the terms&conditions. For example 0 excess option is usually not included. There is usually a "Fuel administration cost" for rentals longer than 2 or 3 days, but they don't tell you how much it is.
Report this content RGVT Written on: 20/02/2015
They do have hidden cost even if not directly to them. Hidden means small print that may be anywhere. The amount can be significant and abolish competitiveness. Most irritating, they use contradicting language in different places and at the end will blame you for no reading properly and 'you signed, you agreed' (not verbatim). They will also do nothing to help you - you pay them when you take ththe contract, so by the time you need them, they are already fully paid and dealing with you and your difficulties is an expense. So you will speak to the useless client relation or tech support nonsense that is meant to tire you. Even if they say they will check and return to you, they will not.

Stay away from the rentalbroker and go directly to the carrental companies. You will receive manu additional fees once you are in the "trap".

I am not an expert but here's my thinking: If you are referring to the small charge you incur upfront at time of booking, I suspect this is related to: 1. Securing your commitment in a small way 2. The fee to Economy for the discounted rental you are receiving.

Such things differ from company to company. I always use Economycarrentals, it helps me finding the best offer, but you always have to read all the fine prints, sometimes a cheaper offer may turn out to be more expensive. Unfortunately they are not as easy to use as before, when the price you saw was the price you paid. But at least they display all charges.

The mandatory credit card charge Economy Car Rentals made us pay was exactly the same amount as the 1-day rental fee from Budget. We believed we were paying for the car rental, we even got a car voucher from Economy Car Rentals. Turned out the credit card charge was just their fee and we had to pay Budget the same amount to get the car rental. Book directly with Avis, Herz, Thrifty, Budget, etc. Avoid Economy Car Rentals, they are not a real car hire company, they just charge a fortune to be the middle man.
Report this content TMH261162 Written on: 13/08/2014
I had bad experience with economycarrentals....even you select the full kasko insurance package incl. reimbursement of self risc, you get charged for broken glass. The fee you pay on booking (probably their commission) by credit card is deducted from the rental price which you pay at the counter on picking up the car. You should stay away from this company, they are not serious, as above mentioned exclusion of insurance cover is not mentioned in the voucher and contractual conditions you receive on booking. You can only find them hidden in their general terms and conditions.
Report this content Poluekt Written on: 13/08/2014
Hi, You should try to contact them via e-mail, they even answer it sometimes. The conditions would be very different, depending on the location. I've used ECR service twice, but all the payments were made at the rental company desk. Don't remember any mandatory charges prior to renting.
Report this content lecceseadublino Written on: 18/08/2014
I always found this company economical and never got surprised. The first charge on the cc is to grant the reservation, which is totally refunded (apart 1.50 EUR / 2$) if reservation is cancelled. In any case, you should read all terms and conditions since they are a broker and the conditions may depend also on the car rental company and where is based. For instance, in Italy I think I recall that additional insurance was not included, so I added (with a small fee, don't remember now) an extra cover with Mondial (proposed at teh time of booking...). In other cases no excess was included... PS > I did not rent in the last 2yy, not sure if terms have been changed...always read it in full.

I have used economycarrentals numerous times in Australia. I've no complaints - felt the prices were good. I don't remember the credit card fee - but assume it's like so many businesses now - they're charging you their cost of accepting your credit card. It's probably 1-3%, which is what they pay the credit card company.

I live in Brazil and was looking for car rental companies in Las Vegas. I've just found Economy Car Rentals. It called my attention the fact their price is way lower than their competitors' and it seems they do not charge extra for insurance. They definitely offer great deals, but before making any reservation, I want to know if this company is reliable?

I have used them a lot, the prices are very good and they use major car rental companies. I always got what I have booked, twice I got an upgrade I am very happy with them. I hope this helped you.
