I have used Malagacar.com at least three times before and been impressed by the value for money and never had an issue with the cars provided or the service (although a little grumpy). However, I went to book again this year and was told that as I had provided a positive review previously on their site I would receive a discount code. I emailed them and asked to quote including the discount. The cost came back way more than I had paid last year! I queried this and they said it was unfortunate but as it is high season they cannot help. I wouldn't mind but I do think €510 (including waiver) for a Renualt Scenic for seven days in August is excessive! After me going back again they reduced to €460. I will be looking for an alternative supplier I'm afraid.

Hi,
Unfortunately, August is the most demanded month of the year. Actually the price is pretty fair. Anyway you can always make a new booking with us if prices drop, of course without cancellation fees.

Hi, i am writing this just to remind people of the horrors of travelling abroad. In the main our hire car was fine. On our last day whilst at Malaga Sea front in our Malagacar.com hired car for 1 weeks holiday was broken into and our hand luggage stolen from the boot of the car. Passports / valuables / etc all gone, a nightmare. The police think local criminals would recognize the car stickers and may target it?. Perhaps these should not be displayed. Malagacar insurances including extra cover do not cover any items in the vehicle, we did have travel insurance but even they are not being very helpful and we stand to loose allot of our claim. To long a story for this page. Be warned its not important until it happens to you. Good Luck Brian

Hi Brian,
It's a shame what happened to you. We hope everything is alright now.
As you said, our insurance does not cover personal belongings - it is impossible for us to cover them for 3000 cars. Your travel insurance should help you with this issue.
About the stickers, some customers remove it at the beginning of the rental. We do not recommend to remove the sticker, but you can do it if you feel more secure (we won't charge you for it).
That said, I think the overall service we provided was very good, and maybe a 3-star rating is not so fair, but we understand that being robbed when traveling abroad is a very disgusting situation.
Thanks a lot for choosing our company. We hope you sort this out very soon.
Best regards,
MalagaCar

Service was good, speedy. Car was fine as expected. Only downside is the fuel surcharge which was crazy. I was charged 69 euros for a 3/4 tank of petrol. When I filled it up at a petrol station from almost empty it was 45 euros ! That's almost a 100% mark up out of which you cannot opt out.

Dear customer, thanks for sharing your opinion about Malagacar.com.
Regarding the fuel issue, we are not a gas station, so we cannot buy fuel at a very fair rate. Anyway, we provide the same price as other gas stations at the airport's area (price per litre is way more expensive compared to other towns in Malaga, and it also fluctuates depending on the day of the week).
However, if you think there has been an error with the fuel charge, please send us your booking details to [email protected] and we will have a further look into this issue.

The car we received was fine, but sadly they follow a policy to earn some extra money from fuel. The car is delivered with a half tank, and you are obliged to buy this and do not get any refund for excess returned. Also they charged me 8€ more than agreed due to fictitious exhange rates, so in net this car rental was around 20% more expensive than I had expected.

Hi, please send your booking details to [email protected] in order to check if we made any mistake when taking the payment. Best regards, Malagacar.com

The error with incorrect exchange rate has been rectified after the purchase - so good service from Malagacar!!
However, I strongly disapprove with the companys policy where you have to buy ½ tank os gasoline when starting the rental and leaving back with empty tank. This is written on their homepage, so basically nothing I can object about, but as it was documented in Danish television this week, many car rental companies are charging for more liters than actually tanked, and the liter prices are artificially high.
I often rent cars from Autoreisen in Tenerife, and here you get the car with a half tank and just have to leave it back with an identical amount. So this company is fair, and you can rely on the rental price when making the contract. Renting a car in Malaga is playing hazard with your money.
It seems as if the business standards especially in Malaga is not the highest!

Thanks for your quick response. For rentals of 3 days or less we refund the fuel cost (we understand it is not always possible to use the half tank). On the other hand, we prefer half/empty policy because it is less expensive for the customer and we don't have to check if the tank is full, having to charge refueling extras, etc.
We hope to see you again very soon. We always try our best to keep customers satisfied. Regards, Malagacar.com

Hi, I have rented a car and will be using a debit card. It says you can use a debit card but you must take out the additional insurance. Do you happen to know how much this is? Is it the wheels and tyre insurance or something completely different. It doesn't state how much the additional insurance is in the terms and conditions! I am slightly worried! I have e mailed them twice and they just keep sending me a copy of the terms and conditions!!! Please help! Thanks.

- Groups P in general. Vehicles that are in any P group have an all risk insurance with a 2000€ excess. The additional insurance to cover the above mentioned damages and the excess is 20€ per day with a minimum of 80 € and a maximum of 560€.

Hi all We just used MalagaCar (12-26 Sept 2012) and wanted to report our experience. We found the Minibus pickup from the airport was fine ... we had no queue. However, once at the rental office, there was a 40min wait to be seen by an agent. There seems to be an unbelievable amount of keyboard work for the agents with each client and this slows the whole process up. Readers should be aware that MalagaCar actually debit your deposit from your credit card if you dont take out their additional insurance. They refunded it efficiently and without hassle, but we lost a bit on the exchange rate. We also advise readers to check the car carefully. We hired a large hatch back and there was no cover for the luggage area. This was a bit inconvenient as you could not leave items in the car out of sight. Otherwise we were quite happy with the value for money but would probably try someone else next time.

Have used this company for last three years and three times this year have had no problems until this September. I arrived in Malaga airport on schedule and went to the pick up point. There was no control of the people getting on the bus and I eventually battled my way onto the third bus to take me to the car hire office. Once there there was a line of people out the door and I was 55 minutes in the line before I got my car. Despite the fact it was my third time to use the company this year I had to give all my details again the check in took over ten minutes. No trouble with car or price it was as I booked. Dropped car back a week later and again long line of people in line outside office waiting to be served and large number of people waiting on bus. I left keys on counter and car outside after I failed to get on to 3buses I walked to the airport with my case. Not sure what has gone wrong with there system as I never had these problems when I used them previoslely. I wrote to the company but got no response.

first time user of this company but frequent user of other car hire sites. value for money but could do better on arriving in malaga airport had to find malagacar advisor, who did not seem interested at all,was told to find bus pick up point and go to office to collect our car. [thats ok as we know malaga airport well but it seemed a issue to some who were not used to the airport and were left to wander about asking other people for directions] waited only a couple of minutes at office and was dealt with quickley. the car we were given was peugeot 308[nice car but!] interior was dirty and stank of cigarettes ash trays were overflowing with cigarette butts being non smokers i rejected the car i was soon given a change of vehicle this one was ok but had a few dents and scrapes. cars are supplied with half a tank of fuel and are to be returned empty, thats fine but as is usual for the hire companies, you pay a inflated price, just got to live with that. on return waited less than five mins for bus to drop me at departures. on the whole these are one of the better car hire firms at malaga if they just were to spend a little more time on the finer details they could be the best.

This company did much better this year than last in customer service and quality of the car , but the problem with fuel is on going, I have a diesel car at home so have a good idea of how many miles to expect, this new small car was half filled by the company which i paid for, but after just a few mile it was showing nearly empty so I half filled it - it happened again - they may I have a problem with their fuel meters but these cars show empty very quickly I really don't understand why!

booked with Malaga car having been with other companies in the same location, i found that the car i was shown was well below what i expected, door mirror casing was missing, bumper was looking out of shape, I refused the car and then waited over an hour and 20 mins, to get a leon which i would be more that happy with , however the bulb failure light came on, the airbag light was also on, and the car was not in the best condition, also 62.000 on the clock, hmmm would i use them again??? Not sure, waiting for their comments, as i am off in July.

All in all we were relieved that this did not turn out as bad as we had thought it might after reading the reviews.
The staff were professional, the service was reasonable if a little slow, we did "overfill" the vehicle when we returned it because we were not sure how much we needed to get back but that is just pot-luck - try to use all your fuel as you have paid for it.
If we were to return to Malaga I would have no hesitation in using this company again.
