“Good service but add on the fuel cost!”

Service was good, speedy. Car was fine as expected. Only downside is the fuel surcharge which was crazy. I was charged 69 euros for a 3/4 tank of petrol. When I filled it up at a petrol station from almost empty it was 45 euros ! That's almost a 100% mark up out of which you cannot opt out. (read more)

“Fiddling with fule and exchange rates”

The car we received was fine, but sadly they follow a policy to earn some extra money from fuel. The car is delivered with a half tank, and you are obliged to buy this and do not get any refund for excess returned. Also they charged me 8€ more than agreed due to fictitious exhange rates, so in net this car rental was around 20% more expensive than I had expected. (read more)

Hi, I have rented a car and will be using a debit card. It says you can use a debit card but you must take out the additional insurance. Do you happen to know how much this is? Is it the wheels and tyre insurance or something completely different. It doesn't state how much the additional insurance is in the terms and conditions! I am slightly worried! I have e mailed them twice and they just keep sending me a copy of the terms and conditions!!! Please help! Thanks.

Hi, please check our terms and condition.
This is the cost of the additional insurance, depending on the group booked (June 2013 prices, they may change):
- Groups A, B, C, C1, D and D2. 4€ per day with a minimum of 16 € and a maximum of 56 € per rental.
- Groups E, E0, E2, E3, BA, CA and DA. 7€ per day with a minimum of 28€ and a maximum of 98 € per rental.
- Groups D3, F, DB, FA, GA, IA, JA, G, G1, G9, CC, M1, M2, M3, M4, M5, M6 and M7. 10€ per day with a minimum of 40€ and a maximum of 140€ per rental.
- Groups P in general. Vehicles that are in any P group have an all risk insurance with a 2000€ excess. The additional insurance to cover the above mentioned damages and the excess is 20€ per day with a minimum of 80 € and a maximum of 560€.

Hi,
You can get our extra insurance from 4€ per day (depending on the group booked). In case you don't want to get it, you will have to pay a refundable deposit (the cost will be the same amount as the rental).

They are always waiting at the airport when you arrive with their shuttle bus which takes about 2 minutes to get to their base. Then a quick 'sign up' in the office and you're on the road. The service from Malagacar at pick-up, registration and drop-off was faultless. The representative was waiting for us at arrivals, and took us to the offices (2 minutes away). Watch out with this company! There are many hidden charges in their contracts, as with many hire companies all hidden in the small print. Also if you happen to be driving through Granada, be warned the place is like a mine field of hidden cameras waiting to catch any unsuspecting tourist who breaks any of their minute traffic laws. Obviously you don't know basic arithmetic. The car hire company charged 50 euros in addition to the 100 euros for driving in parts of Granada that only locals know are forbidden to cars. I never received a speeding fine. But yes you would be happy to pay... so would I if I couldn't count!

Regarding your allusion about hidden costs, we would like to inform you that all rental conditions are published both on the web where you made the reservation and as well in the lease.
As a matter of fact, committing traffic infractions doesn´t not give you the right to blame the car company with which you committed these infractions.
Our intention is to give the best service while keeping prices low; having to notify the infractions committed by some clients often involves having to prove repeatedly the partnership contract in the association and then the employee has to go back to the post office to send it certified to the appropriate agency, in this case the city council of Granada.
For all this we would like to inform you that these transactions charged to you do not even remotely cover the costs of identifying you as a traffic infractor; these costs amount to more, but our goal is always customer loyalty. On the other hand, we are sorry that such traffic violations have spoiled your holiday.

So far your company has charged me 75 euros administrative charges. This is in addition to the traffic fine which I have yet to receive (5 months later).
I have yet to see an official copy of these incidents for supposedly driving in parts of Granada that only locals would know are off limits. This is obviously an inside scam on tourists and your company has found a way to profit from our misfortune.
When your company stops this outrageous way of profiting from unsuspecting tourists then we will have no more need to comment negatively on your poor service.

I hired a car for 6 days in October. The rep at Malaga airport spotted us coming out and directed us to the shuttle van which had us at the office in minutes. The paperwork was done fast, there was no pressure to buy the extra insurance. There wasn't any hidden additional charges, there was an optional charge for under body and tyres cover. In my case it was £15.00 but I had already arranged this cover before hand that cost me £12.00. Next time I will use their insurance as it would probably be easier should any problems occur. Other extra excesses other companies offer at extorionate prices are not necessary with Malagacar.com. I have no connection to that firm, I just think their service was second to none!

Arrived at the airport and found the rep, with some difficulty. Was directed to leave the building and wait for a bus outside the airport. Collected a car in extremely poor cosmetic condition and discovered that mechanically it was not much better. The clutch failed around 7pm on the second day of a six day break. I arrived at Malaga airport to wonder around the arrival hall looking for the office. Eventually I found a man holding a board with Malagacars name on it.I was then instructed to walk 100 m around the corner to wait for a bus which took me to their office.I then had to wait in a line of people to complete the rental contract. Great value great service we hired a Galaxy (5th March for 14 days) and got a free upgrade to a KIA Carnival, fantasic motor.
Bit of a push by others (Germans) at airport but only had to wait 5 minutes for second mini-bus and only 2 minutes to car hire desk.
Now we know where it is we will walk next time (would take about 4 minutes).
Staff did not know that third row of seats do not tip but that was the only problem.
We will use them evertime from now on;...

This company did much better this year than last in customer service and quality of the car , but the problem with fuel is on going, I have a diesel car at home so have a good idea of how many miles to expect, this new small car was half filled by the company which i paid for, but after just a few mile it was showing nearly empty so I half filled it - it happened again - they may I have a problem with their fuel meters but these cars show empty very quickly I really don't understand why! I booked a Opel Zafira from Malagacar, they met me at the airport and transported me to the office... all good.
They told me that my booking had been upgraded and I was given a Chrysler Voyager 2.8 CRD (automatic). I paid 50euros for half a tank of diesel.
100km later, the fuel gauge read completely empty. I put 20euros of diesel in the tank and the fuel gauge read half full.
At the end of the booking, I drove around 100km with the fuel gauge reading completely empty.

The minibus to take us to the car hire office was waiting for us at the airport and took only approx. 5 minutes to transfer. The insurance and hire paperwork was dealt with courteously and quickly with no queue. I thought the additional "no excess" optional insurance for 3 Euros a day to be a fair charge and cheaper than some other hire firms. We've used MalagaCar over ten times over the past few years and they are by far the best car rental firm in the area. The wait to be taken to the office has never taken more than a few minutes and of course, the office is only a few hundred metres away. I found this review very helpful because...
<br/>1. it stated the fuel policy, which one never seems to be able to find out until after one has actually booked, and then its usually not what you want (eg. often - pay for a FULL tank and return empty with no refund for unused petrol, (which cost us over 30 Euro MORE than the cost of the fuel we used last time we hired (from DoYouSpain or similar - the desk being on the LHS of the underground car park as you enter from the on-airport carhire desks).
<br/>2. Car Hire in Spain (including Malaga) online is a Nightmare to get satisfactory terms so information such as Guest has provided is very useful indeed. It would have been useful to know how much the infuriating EXTRA INSURANCE for wheels, (tyres?) glass and mirrors cost with MALAGA Car Car Hire.
<br/>3. He provided the information that there are no up front booking costs, which is useful to know before considering selecting which firms to get quotes from.

The car was as described and apart from a few minor scratches, was clean and in excellent condition. Having read the previous reviews I thought I would take a chance as they were considerably cheaper than the Nationals. Booking and pick up very easy and efficient. No hidden extra's! Don't be put off by having to take a very short courtesy van ride to their depot (300m). Only critism is that the Ford Cmax I rented had 49k on the clock and had been well used. A clean youthful car in good condition. A good inclusive insurance package. No charge for the second driver. Easy pick-up and check-in with the courtesy bus service avoiding the long queues often found in the underground car hire hall. A sensible (half to empty) fuel policy, though I would prefer full-to-full or whatever-to-the same. Malagacar.com provided excellent service on our recent visit to Spain. The service was very quick, exactly as described on the web site, and the staff very efficient. The car provided was nearly new and was in good condition. The prices charged were very competitive and around half the price of the quote I had from Hertz - even with Ryanair discount!
I would not hesitate to recommend malagacar.com to anyone flying into Malaga and needing car hire. Well done!

What a weird expereince. ! Arrived in malaga , tried to get a car after a couple of days.
Booked with this company, using my original flight number and telling them I was already here, hence the number would not match the pick up time.
Received an email telling me that since I had already arrived I could not rent a car with them !!
Phoned the Malaga number and had a very curt attendant who told me in no uncertain terms- that the booking was cancelled as I was already in Spain.

The error with incorrect exchange rate has been rectified after the purchase - so good service from Malagacar!!
However, I strongly disapprove with the companys policy where you have to buy ½ tank os gasoline when starting the rental and leaving back with empty tank. This is written on their homepage, so basically nothing I can object about, but as it was documented in Danish television this week, many car rental companies are charging for more liters than actually tanked, and the liter prices are artificially high.
I often rent cars from Autoreisen in Tenerife, and here you get the car with a half tank and just have to leave it back with an identical amount. So this company is fair, and you can rely on the rental price when making the contract. Renting a car in Malaga is playing hazard with your money.
It seems as if the business standards especially in Malaga is not the highest!

Thanks for your quick response. For rentals of 3 days or less we refund the fuel cost (we understand it is not always possible to use the half tank). On the other hand, we prefer half/empty policy because it is less expensive for the customer and we don't have to check if the tank is full, having to charge refueling extras, etc.
