Amigos is the most ridiculous loan company ever I've come across. They advertise that you don't do credit check's or no need for paper,fast payment etc, but what about the guarantor they will strip it down completely, basically the loan is all to do with guarantor and it can be paid to any name even a name wich doesn't exist. What a very helpful and friendly team of people this company has they gave me all the help and advice I needed answered all of my questions with out me feeling that I was being presured in to any thing. The application form was very easy to fill out and in plain english .The tearms and conditions seem very fair to. My name's Scott, I work at Amigo.
Although it's not clear from your review whether you are an Amigo Loans customer, I wanted to reply to explain how we work and what we're all about.
Although our loans are more expensive than people with top credit scores may be able to get from their bank (Natwest and RBS are currently charging 23.9% for £2,000 over 3 years), unlike the banks, we don't charge any fees at all.
There's no fee for late payments, no fee for applying for a loan and no fee for repaying your loan early. Over 40% of our borrowers take advantage of this and repay their loan early, meaning the actual amount of interest paid is much lower than was originally agreed.
Compared to payday loans, our loans are much cheaper. You can borrow £500 from Amigo for 30 days and repay £516.77 (£16.77 interest), compared to around £150 with payday loan companies like Wonga.

“Bullies, i wouldnt be suprised if i have to watch my back”

i took a loan out with amigo. I missed one payment by an error in my bank account. I then rang amigo to explain that this had happened and id pay the direct debit in a week. But did they listen. No. Instead i was subjected to abuse by one of the reps. Who wasnt sympathetic but told me off for not knowing where my priorities lie. I was disgusted by the way i was treated. Our staff are expected to treat customers with respect and courtesy at all times and I'm sorry if you feel like this didn't happen when you called us to let us know about the late payment. Once you've contacted us, I would like to have this call investigated to see if there's anything that we can learn to stop future customers feeling the way that you feel.
In regards to how we work with Debt Management companies, as was agreed during the telephone conversation with you and your guarantor before the loan was taken out, if a reduced payment is made the guarantor would need to pay the difference to bring the payment up to the full amount and keep the account up to date. If a borrower enters a debt management plan, we would accept reduced payments from the borrower, but the guarantor would need to pay the difference to keep the account up to date.

I can tell that you're unhappy with your experience with Amigo Loans and I'd like to see if there's anything we can learn fro this to stop this happening again. We never want customers to go away feeling unhappy after speaking to us.
In regards to your comment about not knowing how we got your details, Amigo Loans only ever contact someone if they've either applied directly to us or applied to a broker who has passed the customer to us after a recent application. If you can email help@amigoloans.co.uk I can contact you to confirm why you were contacted by us and tell you which company passed us your details, if you don't believe that you applied directly to us.
I am sorry that you feel that the advisor was shouting whilst speaking to you. I'd really like the opportunity to speak to you about the telephone, so that we can find the call and take any action that is necessary. When you say that he was asking you for you full address and DOB before he would answer your question, this is something that our advisors do need to do before they can discuss details of the loan, to make sure that we are speaking to the correct person. We take data protection very seriously and doing these checks helps us to prevent people from becoming victims of fraud.

Hi,
My name's Scott, I work at Amigo and I wanted to reply to you to try and explain the reasons for some of the things that you've experienced.
Firstly, in regards to the broker fee that you mentioned, if you found Amigo Loans through a loan broker, they may have charged a fee for their service. Some brokers charge their fee as a debit card payment before you get your loan, some brokers add a commission fee to your loan, but Amigo never takes any of that fee.
We do not charge any fees for applying for a loan, making a late payment or paying your loan off early (the only lender that we're aware of to be able to say this).
In regards to your experience with your top up application, I'm sorry that we weren't able to offer you the top up with your current guarantor, but as a responsible lender, we do focus carefully on affordability for both the borrower and the guarantor. It wouldn't be fair for us to lend to someone without doing these checks, and sometimes, small changes in a guarantor's circumstances can mean that we're not able to use them for a top up.
We do appreciate that you've kept up to date with your agreement for over a year and if you wanted to apply for a top up using a different guarantor, we can re-run the checks to see if we can give you the top up.
I'm really sorry that you're not happy with the level of service that you received, but hope that you can appreciate the reason that we perform these checks.

Due to my past I have been left with long term financial troubled. Amigo did take this on board and made some suggestions on how to help myself. My loan was approved due to my current circumstances rather than judge me on what had gone before. I was able to borrow money needed for essentials for my home when high street lenders would have definitely turned me away. I wanted to reply to address some of your concerns, but also to see if there's anything more we can do to help you.
Firstly, in regards to our interest rate being too high, we believe that for people that can't get a bank loan, we're the cheapest option out there. We don't charge any additional fees for applying, paying off your loan early or late payments, meaning that our price is as transparent as it can be. We don't have any hidden fees, we tell people what it costs and they can choose whether or not to borrow.
In regards to having to make payments for your friend, I can understand why it's frustrating that your friend has let you down, but as you will remember, before the loan was paid out, we ran through a 30min phone call, during which we ran through the responsibilities of being a guarantor and agreed that if the borrower missed payments, you would make them. I'm sorry that the person you stood guarantor for seems to have tried to avoid paying, but I can assure you that we always attempt to take each payment from the borrower before contacting you, the guarantor, and attempt to contact them by phone, SMS and email each time a payment is missed.
In regards to your comment about seeking payment from the borrower through the small claims court, we can still provide you with support to do this, if you would like us to. The borrower agreed to repay this loan and you agreed that you would pay if they didn't, you're within your right to claim the payments that you made back from the borrower, through the courts. I'm sorry if you feel like we asked you too many questions whilst processing your application, but as I'm sure you can appreciate, as a responsible lender we have to pay close attention to income and expenditure for all of our borrowers and guarantors to make sure that people can afford the loan repayments.
Unlike most lenders, that make a decision based on your credit score, we choose to have a conversation with you to make sure that you, your guarantor and Amigo are all happy that the loan won't put anyone under financial strain. It's like the old days, before credit scores took over and you had to go and have a conversation with your bank manager before you could get a loan.

My name's Scott, I work at Amigo and wanted to reply to you to explain how the interest works, as it sounds like you believe that the loan is costing more than was agreed before the loan was paid out. This isn't the case.
At the start of the loan, when your balance is the highest, the interest is the highest. Later on in the loan, as your balance gets smaller, so does the interest, but your repayment amount stays the same.
This is because interest is charged daily on the balance of your loan. When the balance is higher (at the start of the loan) a higher portion of your payment goes towards the interest. This isn't just with Amigo, it's how interest works in general.
As with all of our loans, you will never pay back more than was agreed before you took out the loan, if you repay the loan on time and as agreed.
One of the things that's different about Amigo, is that we don't charge any fees for paying off your loan early, or fees for making over payments. This means that if you wanted to pay off extra each month, or pay your loan off early, you will actually pay back less than was agreed when the loan was taken out. You can make over-payments at any time by logging into your online account, or calling our 24 hour automated payment line.
