Good Points: This good looking receiver/amp has 2 HDMI sockets. It comes as a package called HT-SF 1000, which includes 4 floor stand speakers, a central speaker and a sub (passive). The amp has various classification settings for surround sound, easily achievable through the handset. On the Cinema setting, with a DVD the sound is incredible with the sub kicking in perfectly. There is an ambient style mic to help set up the correct balance on surround, but I used the fairly easy manual alternative. I have had no problems with volume. This system will 'move' the sofa. Very good at around £265.00.
Bad Points: Not many. I have heard that volume has been a problem on some systems, but that seems to be associated with a Sky box, which I haven't got.
General comments: I think it would be hard to better the Sony HT-SF 1000 home cinema amplifier system at such a competitive price.
It is also a little future proof with the HDMI sockets. I connected through a coaxial cable (supplied), and with the sound quality and power (!000 watts is stated by Sony) you would expect it to cost more.
I am a novice at connecting surround systems, but I had no problems with this. The S Master amps are regarded as being pretty good generally, and I certainly have no regrets.
If you are looking for this system, the prices seem to vary between £265.00 and £340.00, so it is definitely worth shopping around.
