The Pure Evoke 2 is a great DAB radio, good build quality and great sound. I paid £32 for the charge PAK E1 for this radio charge it up take out the mains power supply and the sound mutes by about 20% in volume. Good buy love it to bits would recommend to any one

The Pure Evoke 2 was the first of three DAB radios I bought (one for home, one for the car and one for personal use). I bought if specifically to plug into my Hi Fi amp and use it as a tuner.

I first of all had to get past the look of it. To me it looked like a kitchen radio. But I soon came to love it. The sound is very smooth and clear which is also carries through to my Hi Fi system into external speakers. It has greatly enhanced my listening to Radio 5, Talksport and Virgin which I used to only get on AM/MW in the past, and Planet Rock radio which I used to get on the Internet. However, it does not, nor does any other DAB radio compare to strong FM radio signals which have a fuller and greater quality sound. So if you listen to your local or national radio signals through FM and are not interested in expanding your choice of stations then don't bother buying this or any other DAB radio until they are the price of normal radios. If however you listen to mostly AM/MW stations or wish to discover new stations that are not normally available through radio then this unit is the best. I read somewhere that we in Britain have one of the worst output signals for DAB. Strong FM is better than DAB so DAB will have to improve to fully compete.

I am very pleased with my Pure Evoke 2. I have owned it for between 1 and a half to 2 years. I couldn't decide for a while whether to get the Pure Evoke 1 or this one. I decided to get the Evoke 2 because of the fact it also had FM Reception on it so I could also listen to some good local stations that were not yet on DAB.
I like the fact that it has 6 presets for both DAB and FM so I can store my favourite stations on it.
I also like the fact that there is a headphone output on the radio so that I can listen with these at night.
I also like the Evoke 2 because it is mains and battery powered so I can easily move it around the house without moving lots of wires with it.
The only problem with the Pure Evoke 2 is that the batteries don't last too long. It would be more wise to either buy Rechargeable Batteries or just use the mains. The Evoke 2 uses 6 C Size Batteries.
Another good point about the Evoke 2 is that it does not distort at high volume.
DAB Radios are also good as they do not hiss and crackle next to electrical appliances like computers, which FM radios normally do.
The Evoke 2 also has 2 Stereo speakers attached to the radio on either side unlike the Evoke 1.
Overall, I think my Evoke 2 is a very good radio and would recommend it to anybody.

I went out and got the Roberts RD3 but I took it straight back, I liked the style of the radio but it sounded really muddy? and the bass and overall sound distorted if pushed over half way which was no use. The Evoke-2 is a different matter.

The build quality is way better than the Roberts, first thing, the radio is somewhat bigger than the Roberts however I was more than happy that I sacrificed this when I heard the radio running. A deep tune picked up 29 Digital stations, Wow! the sound quality was amazing, I quickly set the preset stations to my favourite channels very quickly, the FM performance isn't great but I didn't buy the radio for that.

You can turn the volume right up without distortion, the tone can easily be adjusted as each channel does perform a bit differently, the overall sound quality and style of the radio are superb! There is an optical output and you can attach an external aerial which is a great feature.

This Radio is superb! the Roberts doesn't come near it, I'm quite sad about that as I have always liked their analogue sets.

Go get this radio it's worth every penny.

Just bought my Pure Evoke 2 DAB Digital Radio from Q.E.D. £129.99.
I must say this is not a bad radio, I first tried a Goodmans DSR 80 from Q.V.C.
But quite frankly the audio on that, on D.A.B. sounded hollow and muffled . This set was returned right away.
I'm happy to say the audio on the Evoke is far superior on D.A.B., with lots of volume, you can even crank it up full with no distortion, this could not be said of the Goodmans. The radio looks a little old fashioned, but is nicely made.
My only real concern is the F.M. performance, it is far below average, and sounds hissy on most stations!. I don't know if this is normal for this radio, or if mine has not been tuned properly in the factory.
I know you may think this is not important, but not all F.M. stations broadcast on D.A.B. so I feel the F.M. performance should be better!.
There are only 6 pre-sets on each band, not really enough, but this is only a minor gripe.
So for anyone looking for a D.A.B. radio, you can do a lot worse than get one of these, I suppose it is a little expensive compared to some of the others, but as with everything else, you get what you pay for.

Overall I have to say that I am very happy with my Pure Evoke 2. I had considered buying an Evoke 1 but the thing that put me off was they are only mains powered and I wanted a portable radio that was truly portable so I decided to wait for the Evoke 2.

The DAB sound quality is fantastic, I tend to listen to some stations that are only available on Medium Wave and the sound quality with DAB is perfect, no distortion even at full volume and this radio is really loud! Even when compared to the FM band also provided DAB is noticeably clearer and of course comes without the FM 'hiss'.

The down points are its overall size and weight which are considerable for a portable radio. The DAB stations are very easy to tune but even so it would be nice to have more then six presets. The biggest problem for me is one of the reasons I bought the radio in the first place, battery life.

I decided it would be a wise investment to buy some rechargeable batteries and on a full charge they will last between 8 and 10 hours.

These bad points aside, this is still a great radio which I would recommend to anyone.
