Good Points: Wide selection of courses
    Good standard of food
    Varied wine list
    Polite. efficient staff
    Comfortable environment
Average time for 3 courses and coffee - 2 hours +

Bad Points: Parking not always easy
2 Tables in the corner always dark - makes it difficult to read the menu sometimes.

General comments: We have been eating at Varens since it opened. We use this restaurant for special occasions (birthdays and anniversaries) 3 times each year. Since we moved to the area 7 years a ago we have tried many supposed 'restaurants' and paid some phenomenal prices, mostly with disappointing results. It suits our taste though reading previous comments it is'nt everyones cup of tea! We always have 3 courses as a meal out is something really special for us, (we're self employed 24/7, 50 weeks a year) They provide an excellent wine choice and a varied menu appropriate to most tastes and will accomodate any requests given 24 hours notice. Admittedly the portions are not huge but this is compensated by the quality and presentation of the food provided. In our estimation this restaurant provides a very good meal in comfortable environment. Any problems are addressed immediately if they arise. The staff have always been polite and efficient.

It looked like a child's size portion of beef strauganoff which I found myself with, the menu said it had half rice and half chips but actually had 4 chips and a baby's hand size portion of rice. I could have made this dish for myself and my partner for less that £5 with the amount we had but it cost over £14 each!!!

Nice food but thought it was very over priced for the amount we had. Neither of us are big eaters but we left t ...

How to explain Valans? well as a Llandybie resident I have to admit some bias. However as someone with a wife and a mother who are both wheelchair bound and both have unique dietary requirements (both needing dairy and gluten free food). I cannot praise all the staff at Valans enough, they go out of their way to be helpful, and all the loacally sourced food is excellent.

Valans Restaurant in Llandybie has a great wine list, lovely selection of music including jazz, classical, modern etc. Food is out of this world, the best I've tasted for a very long time. The creme brulee is just delicious. Lots of welsh produce, all fresh and definitely homemade (no slices of pre-bought cheesecake here!). The Owner/Chef is always pleased to see you and makes time to chat at the end of the evening. The staff speak welsh and English and are very attentive and knowledgeable. We l ...
