when i start using the dryer, after a minute or so, it stops, the lights on the buttons flash quickly and i cant switch it off by the on off button. the only way i'm able to switch it off is by the main point. it doesn't happen regular though and only started in the last few months after 5yrs, but i would like to know why this happens? Do not buy this washing machine. It is unreliable and not fit for purpose. I live in a shared house and this is the washing machine that is doing duty for the whole house. It is in no way up to the job. In the six months I have been here it has broken down twice, refusing to drain, and frequently does not dry clothes properly. It is very noisy - especially when you put it on 'fast spin', which is the only way to squeeze some of the water out so that your clothes are not sopping... (read more)

I have had the Hotpoint Aquarius 5+5kg wd440 for 3 1/2 years, and we haven't (touch wood) had any problems with it! The dryer isn't great, but I thought was the case with most washer/dryers...??? I just thought I'd share a positive view as ppl mostly like to complain and rarely say much when it's praise about something.
Now I've done this it will break..lol

We've owned this machine for 6 years. In that time it has failed 8 times. Door lock, new drum, new circuit boards, new motor, new support blocks, new support springs, blocked filters, 2 floods and most recently it now needs a new power board. Will now be replaced with a different brand.
Hotpoint service engineers are good when they eventually arrive but they usually take about a week to come and hardly ever have the part required which then takes another week. When you have children and...

Had mine for about 3 years and had problems the first time about 5 months after we bought it when a hose inside was rubbing against the concrete around the drum. Hot point replaced the hose and cable tied it back. Then a few weeks ago we started getting water all over from the washer, closer inspection revealed that yet another hose, this time the waist hose had been rubbing against the machine casing and had split, easy problem to fix with a new pipe but now the door will lock but the door... This washer dryer(wd440 polar) has a very significant fault but to be honest as just a washer i never had a problem but when it came to drying about once every 6 months the heater box, fan and thermo switch assembly had to be replaced due to the brass collet holding the fan to the motor shaft was brass so as brass has a higher rate of expansion of that of steel over time as heat had an effect and the fan simply fell off the motor shaft if this has happened to yours you will see white powder... Utter pants! had all sorts of the problems over the last year. Stopped working altogether today, took it outside, gave it a good knocking about, dismantled it, removed some unecessary looking parts, and banged it back together. Gave it a further good kicking up the backside and now it's working ok again. Hotpoint services is rubbish and expensive. They will do anything to NOT help you. Problems i've had are, 1) blinking lights, 2) banging noise, 3)failure to drain, 4) some programmes work,... (read more)

I will never ever by any hotpoint appliance again.
It breaks down every around 6 months. First the lights start flushing while washing. Then it trips the circuit even if it is not switched on! And every time they change the brain and promise that now it is fixed. Had to buy a tumble dryer because my washer/dryer doesn't bother to dry. It broke down again today. Tomorrow I'm bying a new one. I will go to my local shop and ask for a "anything but hotpoint" washing machine.

Beware of this machine, Hotpoint WD440 1400 spin, as the plastic lifters (toblerone bar shaped plastic in drum1) are likely to come loose. I have replaced all three just over a year ago as they were loose at a cost of approx £40 and yesterday went to take the washing out to find one had come loose and completely chewed off the sleeve of a very expensive top. When I called Hotpoint they were not interested and said that I was not entitled to compensation and had to buy a replacement part. ... (read more)

At all costs avoid any washing machines by Hotpoint or Indesit.
We owned a Hotpoint washing which broke down after 7 months. Hotpoint Customer Care was appalling and they sent out an engineer on 3 separate occasions over a 2 month period (as they can never tell you exactly what time to be at home). After all that, they still could not fix the washing machine and refused to replace the machine. We now have a Zanussi washing machine which is great and much better value for money.

This is the worst washing machine I have ever owned. My Phillips Whirlpool lasted 12 years before this without the need for repair once. This heap of rubbish (which was NOT cheap) has broken down 4 times, the first less than 6 weeks after purchase. The dryer is complete rubbish. I have refused their extended waranty as I don't expect to be paying an extra £60 a year for a machine which has already cost me £400. IT SHOULD WORK! As Hotpoint are so unhelpful and expensive I am tempted to cut my... (read more)

I wish I had read reviews before I purchased my Hotpoint WD440 washer/ dryer.
I cannot recommend this appliance at all. Unreliable, Tumble Dryer very unsatisfactory - Heater (both for W/m & Dryer) has broken, often leaks from bottom of machine; one time was unable to pump out water when machine broke down due to fluff build up and 2 day wait to retrieve clothes from drum; no way for user to access fluff filter in order to clean & this eventually results in a call out.
Tumble dryer very...

it is flashing lights 2 and 4 and power now on dry cycle so waiting for engineer again.AVOID THIS WASHER DRYER UNLESS YOU LIKE WASTING MONEY.

I knew before purchase of our Hotpoint WD440, a Hotpoint would be nothing but trouble from my Dad's bad experiences, but was pushed into purchase, despite my protestations, by the Wife, as our trusty Zanussi after 11 years finally gave up the ghost after only ever having the main drum bearings replaced by me after 6 years, and she would not wait a week for another Zanussi to be ordered, a stance which she now regrets and a lesson to me to stand my ground more firmly. In summary: do your... (read more)

Our hotpoint washing machine is now officially dead after approx 150 cycles! One person household used max twice a week. the wiring loom got caught in the motor and ripped everything in it to pieces before a massive bang and the lights went out. Indesit (hotpoint) want to charge me almost £100 to have a look, admitting that even if it was a manufacturing fault they would provide the spares but keep the callout fee. Little support from customer relations. Despite inviting them to look at the... (read more)

i have owned my hotpoint WD440 for a year now, 4 times it has gone wrong and every time it has been the tumble dryer, the filter is rubbish it requires cleaning every 2 months, according to the manual it is a self cleaning product - it does not even show you how to clean the filter becuase of this statement. This Hotpoint WD440 is a hateful machine. It looks and feels somehow cheap, it's incredibly noisy, and I ended up buying a dryer because the "drying" cycle is non-existent. It's just not worth the money and you can do much better. It's put me off hotpoint for life. (read more)

I am so annoyed as the Hotpoint WD440 is not a cheap machine. Something is wrong with the spin cycle as it makes so much noise when spinning even after an engineer put new padding in! Dryer has stopped heating and washing is coming out very wet after a wash. Also have a Hotpoint CTD00 condenser dryer which has also gone wrong for the second time, hence was trying to dry washing in the washing machine dryer. Hotpoint promised a 6 month extension, then asked for evidence, I was suckered.I was told the filter only needed cleaning and should have been charged for the call out, I was told to clean the filter- this involves opening the machine thus invalidating the warranty, I didn't fall for that one. Try asking for evidence of their 5 year parts warranty, no chance of getting one because apparently you don't need evidence of this, not until you need to use it maybe. I asked for a replacement... Absolute rubbish, new machine only two days old, dryer faulty also timer on dryer faulty. Received a replacement machine, one week later water is gushing out of the soap dispenser and clothes coming out wetter after the drying cycle than when they went in. Currently in negotiations with Hotpoint to swap for a separate washer and dryer to replace this rubbish. Won't hold my breath.
