“No problems for 12 years”

★★★★☆

written by 89Jimenez on 09/01/2021

Wow reading these reviews I realise how lucky Ive been. Had mine for 12 years with no problems until last week when I came home to a flooded kitchen and a sink full of water not draining away. I think its now time to replace it.

“Great Washer Dryer...”

★★★★★

written by Conrad141 on 28/12/2014

We have had our machine for 7 going on 8 years now. We have had an engineer come our once for the thermostat, but I thinkl that was possible overuse when baby arrived and I used washable nappies! But after 4 years on and a family of three, plus washing of dog bedding I cannot fault this machine. It has done us justice. And we were told sometime ago that most washing machines/washer dryers are only built to last for approximately 5yrs so this one is going strong. I am online today to buy a new drum paddle as one has gone. But given that we have had it for so long it's no wonder. And the £8 to buy one and replace it myself is far cheaper than buying another washing machine. No complaints here. Only gripe is the dryer is quite noisy and takes a long time. But given that this is a washer dryer I know from previous experience that it is normally a longer drying time with a combined unit. Would highly recommend. And we ae more than happy with this machine.

“Fine”

★★★★☆

written by Savannah375 on 23/07/2014

I was surprised to read some of the negative reviews on here, have had my machine for some years now and all is fine. It can be a little bit noisy on the spin, but it's only for a few minutes and probably sounds worse as I'm on a second floor apartment. Washes well, spins well. Good value for money.

“dryer sometimes stops and lights wont stop flashing.”

written by on 09/12/2012

when i start using the dryer, after a minute or so, it stops, the lights on the buttons flash quickly and i cant switch it off by the on off button. the only way i'm able to switch it off is by the main point. it doesn't happen regular though and only started in the last few months after 5yrs, but i would like to know why this happens?

“Causes more stress than anything else in my life.”

★☆☆☆☆

written by on 22/02/2012

Do not buy this washing machine. It is unreliable and not fit for purpose. I live in a shared house and this is the washing machine that is doing duty for the whole house. It is in no way up to the job. In the six months I have been here it has broken down twice, refusing to drain, and frequently does not dry clothes properly. It is very noisy - especially when you put it on 'fast spin', which is the only way to squeeze some of the water out so that your clothes are not sopping wet. The first time, I thought maybe I could have a look at the filter and fix it myself - we all know coins, socks, etc. sometimes get trapped in the filters of washers and dryers. Forget it. This machine is completely closed, with no user-servicable parts and no access to the filter. You will be calling out an engineer every couple of months just to remove trapped items. Plus, in attempting to move it, I managed to dig up the linoleum in our kitchen, which my housemates were thrilled about. Today, the kitchen flooded because the machine refused to drain. I suspect that again a sock or other item has worked its way into the mechanism of the machine. I have traipsed all the way to the laundrette with a heavy sodden pile of washing only to find that the place was closed - cue traipsing all the way back. I am now soggy, late for work, and have a bunch of clothes that are drip drying onto my laminate flooring. The Hotpoint Aquarius WD440 is an horrific machine. If you like wet clothes, a damp house, stress, and spending money on engineers, go ahead and buy it.

I have had the Hotpoint Aquarius 5+5kg wd440 for 3 1/2 years, and we haven't (touch wood) had any problems with it! The dryer isn't great, but I thought was the case with most washer/dryers...??? I just thought I'd share a positive view as ppl mostly like to complain and rarely say much when it's praise about something.

Now I've done this it will break..lol

“We've owned this machine for 6 years. In that time it...”

★☆☆☆☆

written by on 14/02/2011

We've owned this machine for 6 years. In that time it has failed 8 times. Door lock, new drum, new circuit boards, new motor, new support blocks, new support springs, blocked filters, 2 floods and most recently it now needs a new power board. Will now be replaced with a different brand.

Hotpoint service engineers are good when they eventually arrive but they usually take about a week to come and hardly ever have the part required which then takes another week. When you have children and are washing every other day this is unacceptable. Would not recommend Hotpoint or this model to anyone.

written by on 04/01/2011

Had mine for about 3 years and had problems the first time about 5 months after we bought it when a hose inside was rubbing against the concrete around the drum. Hot point replaced the hose and cable tied it back. Then a few weeks ago we started getting water all over from the washer, closer inspection revealed that yet another hose, this time the waist hose had been rubbing against the machine casing and had split, easy problem to fix with a new pipe but now the door will lock but the door lock light goes off immediately and wont start the wash/Dry cycle. I presume it may be the door lock censer.

I would advise again Hoover Washing machines as well.

This washer dryer(wd440 polar) has a very significant fault but to be honest as just a washer i never had a problem but when it came to drying about once every 6 months the heater box, fan and thermo switch assembly had to be replaced due to the brass collet holding the fan to the motor shaft was brass so as brass has a higher rate of expansion of that of steel over time as heat had an effect and the fan simply fell off the motor shaft if this has happened to yours you will see white powder on the door seal as the nylon fan grinds down in the heater box i owned this machine for 2 years whilst it was still under guarantee when the engineer on his last visit informed me it was about £200 to fix out of warranty with fitting i spent a little money on a bosch washer dryer and that's great

Utter pants! had all sorts of the problems over the last year. Stopped working altogether today, took it outside, gave it a good knocking about, dismantled it, removed some unecessary looking parts, and banged it back together. Gave it a further good kicking up the backside and now it's working ok again. Hotpoint services is rubbish and expensive. They will do anything to NOT help you. Problems i've had are, 1) blinking lights, 2) banging noise, 3)failure to drain, 4) some programmes work, other don't, 6) text prints on the control panel has worn off.

But since i gave it a good kicking and dismantling, (i honestly took out more parts than i put back in) it works fine for the moment. I don't know the first thing about washing machines, but since i've been saving to buy a new one for a while, i had nothing to lose by dismantling it and knocking it about senselessly. I would like to stick two fingers up at hotpoint services! For both a bad product and even worse service. What a joke!

I bet the manager/director of hotpoint doesn't have a hotpoint washer/dryer in his house! As he should know full well that they suck!

“I will never ever by any hotpoint appliance again. ”

written by on 09/07/2010

I will never ever by any hotpoint appliance again.
It breaks down every around 6 months. First the lights start flushing while washing. Then it trips the circuit even if it is not switched on! And every time they change the brain and promise that now it is fixed. Had to buy a tumble dryer because my washer/dryer doesn't bother to dry. It broke down again today. Tomorrow I'm bying a new one. I will go to my local shop and ask for a "anything but hotpoint" washing machine.

written by on 17/06/2010

Beware of this machine, Hotpoint WD440 1400 spin, as the plastic lifters (toblerone bar shaped plastic in drum1) are likely to come loose. I have replaced all three just over a year ago as they were loose at a cost of approx £40 and yesterday went to take the washing out to find one had come loose and completely chewed off the sleeve of a very expensive top. When I called Hotpoint they were not interested and said that I was not entitled to compensation and had to buy a replacement part. The drum is a poor design as these should be integrated in the design not separate or if not the edges should not be razor sharp underneath which damage your clothing. Very unhappy!

At all costs avoid any washing machines by Hotpoint or Indesit.
We owned a Hotpoint washing which broke down after 7 months. Hotpoint Customer Care was appalling and they sent out an engineer on 3 separate occasions over a 2 month period (as they can never tell you exactly what time to be at home). After all that, they still could not fix the washing machine and refused to replace the machine. We now have a Zanussi washing machine which is great and much better value for money.

“This is the worst washing machine I have ever owned....”

★☆☆☆☆

written by on 12/03/2010

This is the worst washing machine I have ever owned. My Phillips Whirlpool lasted 12 years before this without the need for repair once. This heap of rubbish (which was NOT cheap) has broken down 4 times, the first less than 6 weeks after purchase. The dryer is complete rubbish. I have refused their extended waranty as I don't expect to be paying an extra £60 a year for a machine which has already cost me £400. IT SHOULD WORK! As Hotpoint are so unhelpful and expensive I am tempted to cut my losses and buy a different machine rather than get this one repaired again. Avoid this machine like the plague!!!!!

I wish I had read reviews before I purchased my Hotpoint WD440 washer/ dryer.

I cannot recommend this appliance at all. Unreliable, Tumble Dryer very unsatisfactory - Heater (both for W/m & Dryer) has broken, often leaks from bottom of machine; one time was unable to pump out water when machine broke down due to fluff build up and 2 day wait to retrieve clothes from drum; no way for user to access fluff filter in order to clean & this eventually results in a call out.

Tumble dryer very unsatisfactory - no timer countdown, 30mins minimum drying + 20 min cooldown.

Hotpoint engineer not impressed with machine.

I had a Hotpoint washer dryer for aproximately 7-8 years before this one, but NEVER again.

Hotpoint wd440 is complete rubbish what a waste of money, had it for 3 years engineer been out 7 times for the same fault.machine turns on and door locks but does nothing else they reprogramme the eprom and say it should be turned off at the wall to prevent fault happening again, even doing this it still only lasts 6 months.
it is flashing lights 2 and 4 and power now on dry cycle so waiting for engineer again.AVOID THIS WASHER DRYER UNLESS YOU LIKE WASTING MONEY.
