I thought I was buying quality after a few years of owning a few of their appliances I wouldn't buy hotpoint for anything again. I've had this fridge for about 6 years Major break down after 2 years the compressor broke, replacement seems fine for now although making some strange clunking noises. Today the door handle broke. As mentioned by others anything you put in and touches the back becomes soaked in water or frozen, yes we have played with the temperature dial and leave it alone and one day soaked items one day crisp frozen lettuce, so something is amiss as we aren't fiddling with anything. I have their matching freezer to go with this that too has had issues from the start, interior plastic moulding cracked, freezer drawers are too brittle and snap when frozen have gone through two sets of those now and still happens. I also have a dishwasher from them after 2 years the front digital monitor packed up where it dims and comes back to full brightness and dims again. I will never buy hotpoint again I was misled that they were quality long lasting and long wearing items, guess they aren't any longer.

We have owned this fridge for 5.5 years. The door handle first broke after nearly 4 years, and the replacement (a genuine Hotpoint spare) broke in exactly the same place after 18 months. I have asked Indesit/Hotpoint to refund the cost of the 2nd replacement handle I have had to buy, but they have refused. The reply was extremely patronising, implying that the way we were opening the door is the cause of the problem. Given that my wife and I have been opening fridges for well over 50 years without breaking door handles, I can only assume that Indesit/Hotpoint are in denial about what is obviously a fairly common problem. Don't buy this product unless you are prepared for the hassle (and cost) of replacing door handles on a regular basis.

we bought this load of rubbish expecting top quality.. I might as well stick the food I put in it in a bowl of water. Anything that gets pushed against the back of the fridge ends up soaking wet. Never again!! will I buy a Hotpoint product.

I've owned this fridge for nearly 3 years and it has done really well. There is loads of room inside and lots of ways of altering shelves etc. It can get iced up a bit a the back but I suspect that's because I've stuffed too much in to it. My current problem is the door handle broke last night and superglue isn't helping. Spares are available at £20 a go. £20 for a little piece of plastic! So in summary it's pretty good - just pray you don't ever need to buy any spares from the gouging b*?#'£ds at Hotpoint.

freezes food in the top third of the fridge ,have had a new compressor9cost £170) but that repair has bairly lasted a year ,not fit for purpose , my problem is that I have it's twin freezer so will look odd to change . I have decided to use a timer switch to turn off daily as I saw in another review. will think very carefully before buying another hotpoint appliance -what a shame as the fridge is made in UK so thought it was a good reason to purchase

Great Fridge. Has worked Perfectly for the last 3 years

This Hotpoint RLA84 fridge worked quite well for nearly three years until the door fell off. This was due to the inadequate top fixing which consists of one screw. The fridge location prevents rehanging the door to open from the other side. After the initial episode when the screw was retightened this had to be repeated at increasingly frequent intervals until the screw could be easily pushed in and, of course, just as easily fell out. Clearly the screw housing has disintegrated and there seems little option but to abandon this product and buy a better quality one. The situation has probably been accelerated by the number of shelves provided for use within the door itself. Having intended the loading to the door it seems negligent not to make a more robust hinge to take the increased weight. The Hotpoint service department were most unhelpful. Their only offering was to send someone at an initial cost of £110 without any guarantees of dealing with the problem.

We have had the RLA84 larder refrigerator for just 2 years. It has been the worst machine we have ever purchased. The salad trays are flimsy and early last year we had to pay a refrigerqation expert to try to fix it. It could not be repaired and we had to put it on a timer to switch it on/off so that it would not freeze all the contents. We have ruined food and had to throw it away. We are now looking to buy from another manufacturer. NOTE we are also buying a new Hotpoint washer as this is equally as bad, faulty, poor quality etc.

Salad containers are not durable at ALL. My Bulb has just blown for the 1st time exactly 3 yrs & i bought another & it doesn't work so i'm expecting more problems as experienced with my Hotpoint Freezer, micro combi, oven, Gas hob & even the chimney. Design quality on useage is gobsmackingly bad!! on all. Shame you can't test drive. After sales is appalling, so machine like, no one has any life in them. Example of the poor designs - the grill when it gets to hot switches off !! the grill is designed to be used at full temp with door closed as per the manual. I can toast 4 slices of bread with the door "open" after that it switch's off/on/off/on. Its worse with door closed. The Freezer drawers are not wide enough, so they get stuck all the time. They reccomend changing the filter in the chimney every 3 - 4 months at £35. Where's that in the pre sales blurb ? & it gets worse, i've tried complaining but no one listens, it's just cheap imported rubbish that they re - badge.

The Hotpoint RLA84 fridge looks good; the salad boxes are a bit flimsy, but aftercare really lets the side down. I would never buy Hotpoint / Indesit again.
