Gumtree is a family webite, and on the whole if you follow the rules, its a damn useful site. people get caught out, they pay money for things that dont exist ect, but it encourages face to face payment. I had placed an advertisement for myself as a personal trainer in gumtree. I placed it in the fitness section, next to all the other personal trainer adverts and they removed it claiming it is in the wrong section. Yet none of the other trainers had their ads removed? Awful site. (read more)

Beware! They take your money for advertising then after you've paid, they delete your adverts without any sufficient reason. They give three reasons for this but in my case not one of those reasons have even a gain of truth. Gumtree are all about stealing money from advertisors. (read more)

Not only is the site full of scammers, rip-off merchants and people who spend all day posting multiple ads but genuine ads are removed for no reason at all. As for customer service if they have anybody working there then they need a rocket up their bumholes as the service is pathetic. (read more)

Like many on here, I too have fallen foul of Gumtree and their strange rules. I had my account restricted and despite appealing, I just got incredibly rude replies stating any further correspondence will be ignored. It appears that the staff can just make rash decisions with no governing. Hence all these complaints. Have used Humtree for both buying and selling for a couple of years, always arranged cash on collection whether I was selling or buying and never had any hassle apart from the odd time waster which I can't really blame Gumtree for. I agree, I spent time arranging delivery of scaffold boards for raised beds, took time off work for the delivery, explalned I had to get back home for childcare and the guy never turns up. No explanation no apology,waited 6 hours. Went to a local firm instead. Last time I use Gumtree.

I just recently got blocked from posting. I've never broken any rules, and I think it may be due to the fact that I reported a scam to Gumtree. I have a feeling that the fact they have so many problem postings on the site, suggests that it may be an internal matter. My suggestion is to avoid this website at all costs. I respect Gumtree's right to remove any ad they choose, without explanation. I just query the logic behind it... I have had all my business ads removed because - get this - I uploaded photos instead of a logo. What? WHAT? Why does that matter? I mean, WHY DOES THIS MATTER? Who is going to get hurt because I have uploaded a photo... what person is going to lose their home because I uploaded a photo?!?! As a gumtree.sg user myself, I have never had any problems shopping on gumtree. maybe because I always take the COD or meetup option, which prevents any form of swindling to a certain extent as I get to check out the item myself. But still, I sympathies with the online shoppers who are scammed by certain bad apples which give a whole race a bad name (Chinese for example)..... Still I feel gumtree is one of the best sites. I had the same experience today. I called their contact centre this morning and was put on hold for 12 minutes, only to be told that my account has been bloacked and they cannot tell me why. When I asked to be put through to a manager, I was told this was not an option and I was then hung up on!! Ridiculous!!

I've advertised periodically on Gumtree and had various issues including their system placing, recently I placed 2 ads both of which we're removed for alleged non compliance, I queried this with gumtree as I couldn't see anything within my ads that clashed with their rules. I advertised my car locally think it would get some interest before using the auto trader. After 2 days my listing was removed for breaking the rules? You would swear I was advertising my car as stolen and selling on the cheap! After emailing and my losing going love again it soon got removed again with no valid reason. Waste of time to be honest. Yup, I hear ya. By any chance did you pay to get it bumped up? I have had many ads (about 4 now) removed, all conveniently after I paid to have them bumped up! Now I have paid to have another ad as a "top ad" today, and now my ad is not appearing at all. Yup, glad to know where Gumtree gets its profit from - not honestly that's for sure.

Funnily enough they also removed it after it'd paid them £1.53 to bump it up.
Personally I'd give that site a wide berth from now.

Iam beside myself!! Gumtree keeps removing my puppy advert for absolutely no reason. I have had it done at lease 5 times within the past 48h. I have gone through all the detail checking the wording, pictures, reading their T&C to make sure that I comply with all their rules but they still would not budge. Have you seen all the other ads stating the same thing - their ads were taken down after paying to have them bumped up. I think the CCC should investigate as this is happening to way too many people. I have had this happen to me 4 times (even though I disputed with Gumtree their reasons) (and with no response) - these all happened within 24 hours or less of me paying to have the ads bumped up/top ads. Now, today, I have just paid (near on $15) to have my ad as a top ad, and it has disappeared all together! Paypal will not allow a dispute if the service you have paid for does not provide goods (meaning I couldn't even get my money back). Have a look at all the similar complaints on here to yours - I think it needs to be investigated.

Gumtree used to be a great site that was started by a backpacker but now it has been acquired by the greedy lot of people from Ebay it has turned into an ugly company where they bumped up their 'Top Add' for Real Estate listings from $5 to $25. All they want to do is rip you off.

Funny that - because all the ads I have paid to get bumped up get removed within 24 hours of paying money to Gumtree - I think they are being very selective (and dishonest) about whos ads they are moving (mine was for a dog wanted)...

It is 13.40 hrs. on 19/01/2013 and I just Googled the site which instantly arrived all present and correct. Clicked on a few items with instant response. Using Chrome on Windows 7 with a 3.2 Gig. CPU.
Perhaps they have now fixed the site but I'll try them again later and get back to you if there's any change.

They need to be investigated - my ads have been being removed also, conveniently 4 times this has happened after I have paid to get it bumped up. I'm in belief that it is gumtree that is removing the ad as when I dispute it, they don't respond! Don't use paypal if you want to bump an ad up as paypal will not let you put a dispute in if you have not received actual good. I would say gumtree is well aware of this. Great to see they are so dishonest making money of innocent human beings. They need to be investigated by the CCC because this trend (of having paid ads removed) seems very consistent (do a google search and you will see for yourself).

I have been posting ads on gumtree for around 18 months with not too many problems, however within the last month or two I have been paying gumtree to "bump up my ads" and despite paying for this gumtree haven't been doing it, I have been constantly emailng them for a refund but they simply don't bother to reply - after all they have your money and have no intentions of giving it back. I am another victim of fraud using Gumtree, I have reported the fraud to Gumtree using their own online reporting page on two occasions since mid December 2012. Late last year I had huge problems with Gumtree and various job adverts. They removed them for no good reason and I never got anywhere near the number of email replies their stats said I'd got. They didn't respond propely or quickly and forced me to pay more to try to get new ads in to resolve my recruitment problems. I sent an advert to gum tree to re-home my dog. My advert was removed on the grounds I was a commercial breeder. I had only ever tried to rehome the 1 dog and only placed one advert on gumtree. Customer services unhelpful at best, wasting my time with template emails which pointed me to posting rules and terms and conditions which had nothing that applied to me or my advert. I have never been as frustrated with a consumer site as I have with gumtree. (read more)

Hiya, I posted puppies on Gumtree for sale with all T&Cs from GUMTREE and my ad was also removed stating that I to was a commercial breeder.
I only have 1 female dog and she has only ever had 1 litter.....
After several emails. WELL LOTS of email actually they just kept sending the same email regarding there T&Cs.
Went to my vet and SSPCA and asked them to check my ad and see if tha ad was in any animal welfare breach and they said no, infact my ad had more info than anyothers....SO, i copied some1 elses ad and that to was removed as in breach with animal welfare BUT they left the other ad posted that I copied.......
Anyway, I posted else where and within 2days all 7 puppies where sold, houses vetted and they all went to loving homes...
Gumtree is a joke....

I paid to have my ad promoted for 1 week (displayed at top of search result page, highlighted). I am based in Bishop's Stortford, although they seemed to translate this as Luton, around an hour - hour 1/2 away. I was getting some interest of the ad, but these were obviously people from Luton, unwilling to travel all the way over here. Creating/updating the ad is also very slow. Don't use Gumtree to post ads, use another paid service for a better experience. (read more)

The ads for 'wanted rental' in Birmingham like the above are come-ons. No contracts have been signed with QE doctors and it's really false advertising to get private landlords to respond. Gumtree shouldn't accept such ads - highly unprofessional people behind the ads who make out they are a successful company when they have NO contracts nor accommodation vetted in Harborne area. i know just what you mean I have had similar issues with Gumtree and have wasted a lot of time with trying to get my ads posted with them, I find they have questionable practices of their own thank y

Completely corrupt site.. people sell the same items as I used to sell but min are banned even before any listing is allowed and I am told that I am not allowed to sell these items as it breaks gumtree rules but it is only my ads (apple TV) as I monitor the site for the same items but all the others remain.. It is a corrupt and unprofessional site who make up the rules to suit themselves and then give you excuses that are full of holes and makes them look even worse than you already thought they were.. Gumtree has no rules and makes them up as they go along to suit so you are just wasting your breath.. equal opportunities does not apply at Gumtree and should be investigated into their practices

Already tested my theory, i used the same account they banned, listing the same item, but paid for it, and what do you know?
they listed it with out any problems,....
so in essence what they are doing is monitoring the regular posters, and banning them so they they have to pay to list ads, on their free site ....Absolutely Appalling

What Gumtree are getting away with is appalling. They are free to do whatever they want and their practices should be investigated.

I have posted 15 adverts selling antiques on Gumtree over several months.I have had not one response! Not a phone call or e mail...NOTHING! All my antiques are way below market price as i am looking too move.I have put detailed descriptions and pictures with each ad........NOTHING! I have reduced most items...NOTHING! The irony is they advertise on national TV telling you to sell it on Gumtree....waste of time! Dont bother,bloody annoyed with this site!!!!!!

I made a mistake in thinking this site was very good. I purchased some headphones i had wanted for a long time. I was very happy with the price someone was selling it for. I paid for the item on 17th September days go by no item, i emailed, texted and called no answer. After 3 weeks in and i had enough so i asked for my money back but after him saying it was not his fault the item was not here and that he would send the item again i stupidly gave in and decided to see if it would ever come.... I have the same problem,I sold things in the past on Gumtree but now it does not work anymore, I want to sell a wardrobe but they not even take on, I wrote my ad step by step but nothing happened.

same. why? because they have blocked you. regular posters who use the free service get blocked. they want you to pay. i also do some part time scam hunting every time i use the site, and have alerted them to scammers. don't think they like that. advice. don't use scamtree.

Has anyone experienced the removal of adverts they have placed on Gumtree? I have even had paid adverts removed. There is noresponse or no adequate reponse from their customer care.Has anyone another advertising web site they can recommend for advertising university level tuition and dissertation supervsion please?? I have been blocked and they say it is against their policy to give reasons! I can not see any reason as was only advertising things privately such as guitars and amps and a microwave etc. So not even anything exactly "edgy". They refuse to explain and will give no reason.

I don`t usually make a complaint but what is the point in GUMTREE if your ads do not get published. 16 hours ago I placed an add to rent a house out, I have never placed an add before, but was easy to place and expected a few hours and it would be live but no chance. The live chat does not work I have waited 30 mins and no answer to it and the premium rate number just puts you into a Q waiting. I can see how they make money dropping people in the Q it must be a gold mine. (read more)

“Gumtree Needs Chopping Down Made Into A4 Paper!”

Gumtree would be more valuable if it was chopped down and made into A4 paper, at least you can print on the damn thing! Anyways, Ads are processing for 9 days, I will not ring the premium rate 0905 number they have, their live chat does not work, their email system has not responded to my emails for 6 days, I've had enough, will never use them again!
