Awkward to get to utility pouches

General comments: I managed to grab this Remploy Soldier 95 chestrig off my neighbour on the night of his retirement from the army. Fortunatley it was new but came with a funky smudge of sand from Afghanistan across it. Generally I think that as far as chest rigs go these are rather good. Now I stress many people think that for many obvious reasons they are usless and lame. Yet in the two years in the ACF I used mine I never really found a fault that I couldn't rectify with a better solution. Personally and like many others I hate yomping around with usless bits of kit that would never see the light of day. So the number of pouches for me was quite adequate. One of the ammo pouches became storage for cleaning kit and speed loader whith my mess tin, gas stove, KFS and waterbottle being stashed away in each utility pouch. I did find that once fully kitted out the rig 'bounced' and 'wobbled' from side to side and sometimes ended up around on my back! A simple way to relieve this problem was to attach a Fastex buckle onto the excess webbing from the shoulder straps. Once in place I had no problem at all running around it just stuck and hugged to me. Bliss underfire! Another problem which I only noticed when it was pointed out by a senior NCO was getting bruised whilst taking cover. Dead simple, a cutting of roll mat inside the map pocket relieved the pain and added to the rigs security. The main problem I have had whilst using this rig came when carrying a Bergen. Problem was that the buckles being at the back caused sheer agony after a full days yomp as well as the shoulder straps managing to slip off constantly! The overall build is of top quality and I wouldn't expect nothing less form the British Army. The 1000d Cordura is sturdy but fairly easy to rip and snag also when it gets dirty it stays dirty! The buckles however I did get miffed by they always seem to crack in the same place on evry buckle! I would recommend this to anyone doing simple foot patrols where Bergens are not carried and access to utility pouches isn't essential. As I have said this isn't a piece of kit for evryone, just whatever works for you.
