Good Points: Giugiaro styling - arguably his finest. Alfa legendary twin cam noise, reliability & performance. Great handling, slick & positive gearbox. Fairly comfortable... did I mention exotic styling both inside and out. Great aftermarket support.
Bad Points: Rust, some parts expensive, slowish 2nd gear syncho. Need for a knowledgable sympathetic owner. Italian physique needed to drive comfortably.
General comments: This car is GREAT. At the price in my country it's some 30% cheaper than an MGB and SO much better engineered and better driving machine.
The Alfa Romeo GTV mechanicals are the best thing, reliable tough engine with possibly the best soundtrack this side of a Ferrari. The gearboxes and brakes are still really feel good even 30 years laters. People say the MX5 soundtrack is great but trust me it's zero compared to Alfa twin cam, gutteral rumble!!
Styling is arguably Giugiaro finest and truely timeless. It's a head turner and on almost every drive I get compliments. Interior styling is also beautiful with those twin large binnacles and wood. My GTV also has aftermarket connelly interior which makes the interior very clasy.
.. BUT you gotta watch out for rust. Just keep in more or less dry and remove rust every 7 years before it gets too bad and it should be ok.
All in all a great classic that still has performance and handling by today standards. Buy a good RUST FREE one and you'll never want to sell it. Since having it I've owned a Porsche 944, and Lotus Esprit Turbo. They are faster and more comfy but the Alfa is still the best in style, looks and collectibility and I sold the others but kept the GTV.. Cuerero Sportivo!!
