General comments: My friend and I booked 2 rooms at the Royal Hotel in Scarborough. I was given a room with a dirty bed and a uncleaned room. The whole hotel was grimy. The smell in the swimming pool area was revolting. There was no way that I could spend a night there, so the duty manager promised me a refund, subject to a £25 cancellation charge, each. This was on June 17th, 2008. This meant that I was due a refund of £113.60 pence. This hadn't been actioned when I received my credit card bill. so I called and left a message for him to call me as I was told he was the only one who could handle it. One week later, still no call from him. I called again today July 25th, to be told to leave him a message to call me back... I asked for the complaint telephone number instead. I ran this number twice for 5 mins and no-one answered. I finally looked up HQ on the net, called Sales & Marketing and sent them this review. I got a call on my ansaphone immediately and a cheque. However, I still feel that I should not have had £25 deducted each from the refund, because the place was so grimy, and if that's the best hotel Scarborough has to offer.....

We paid £890 for 2 nights for 2 adults and 2 children. Everything was extra, including the internet, so we had another £160 to pay on departure. Which, if it's is good quality, no body minds paying, but the hotel was shabby and cold, and the staff were not very helpful at all. They were more bothered about where the tips wer ...
