All happy and friendly when getting you into the house, when leaving lots of hidden charges, firstly it was £25 for them to provide the next property with a reference, then it magically jumped to £30. Doubt we will get our deposit back. They also bring people to look around the house when you haven't agreed its a convenient time and let themselves in whilst we were upstairs working from home. 1 word Thiefs, I have been a good tenant always paid on time for 5 years, kept myself to myself, there was a strange smell in the bathroom faulty plumbing, the day I moved out they sent a plumber round, the upstairs flat's toilet leaking into the u bend in my bath, a small hairline cut on the hob, the boiler did not work correctly it needed replacing, however it never got done as they just said the landlord wont pay for a new one, well my electricity a quarter was £500. So where do I start with my 'review' of Martin & Co Basingstoke? Well, the best way to sum up my experience over the year I was at the property would be to say that I'd rather live on the streets than ever have to rent another property from them. Martin and co is the laziest estate agent I have come across. They are difficult to get in touch with, and it takes at least a week, if at all, before you receive a respond to any problems or queries you have about your property. I have had major problems with my property, including a major leak, but nothing has been done to rectify any problems, and nobody has even been to look at the problems. The Wolverhampton branch/franchise of Martin & Co will charge the landlord and tenant for services not asked for. They will also lie to the tenant to get more money from them and pretend that they are doing it on your behalf and will conveniently blame missing correspondence on new staff members. They will get tenants quickly for your empty property, but be prepared for greed and deception. (read more)

The service I received from this branch was appalling. The staff member I dealt with was rude and patronising. He also lied about getting legal advice on deposit disputes. He was not interested in being fair to both parties and only cared about helping the landlady. Went to view an apartment at allotted time. Waited outside in a supermarket cap park as requested for the agent, it was raining and cold. The staff are rude and unhelpful when it comes to dealing with emergency problems in rental problems. They don't keep you informed and if you phone to find out what's happening they are just rude and tell you that they are trying to sort out the situation, when actually nothing is being sorted out at all. I opened my new front door to find blood stained bed broken furniture and freezer, a complete mess from grime on shower head to used cotten buds in kitchen cupboard. I am double unfortunate as both landlord and tenant of Martin and Co Basingstoke branch, the one on London Road in town Center. Both experiences are like nightmares...one of the lady there first made my tenants feel mistreated by her 'business' attitude, and as a result I stopped getting rent. I love how they made up various things in the house that needec leaning. Appliances that didnt even exist in the house. FOr shame on you Martin & Co, Then having the gall to charge us for cleaning them..... Very bad company. Very slow to fix problems, you end up paying for it yourself in the end becvause then you have a safe house to live in. Martin and co WOLVERHAMPTON office. took £1200 off my 19 yr old for credit check fees, advance rent and holding deposit, the tenancy failed to go through as my son took more than 7 days to get a reference. I have only owned these 4 properties for a year, as I lost both my parents, so it was a trying time at best, but this company did not help, instead over a course of 6 weeks when I couldn't cope much longer, my probate team took over dealing with them and in that time they invoiced my probate team with roughly 15 different bills invoices, saying they did not generate them, throughout the year the bills that were coming in, were incredible, to add fuel to fire, they kept my rental monies back... Martin & Co in Chatham were slow to respond to numerous problems that were apparent during the initial inventory check. These took weeks to resolve and should have been dealt with before the tenancy started. In the end I became so fed up with the lack of response I exercised the six month break clause and ended the tenancy. They did however found us a place last minute so we left the matter at that even if they failed to apologize for their mistakes. This is the worst agency I have ever been with. They would let you live in damp, unhygienic situations that are completely against health and safety, and at the end when they've tried to get as much money as possible out of you, they try and get your deposit for something that that was worse when you original received it. Do not use this agency! It is not worth the time or your energy, go with a company with recommendations from other people. Trust me, martin and co won't be one of them. (read more)

Martin and Co, Canal Street, Paisley. The staff are incredibly unpleasant and rude and would rather argue and bully you, over the phone than deal with you in a professional way. The owner, Joseph is incredibly obnoxious, aggressive and downright ignorant. I moved into a block of flats advertised as "luxury". It seemed ok on the very brief viewing, but even though the building is less than 5 years old, you can tell it's been made on the cheap. No concrete - all wood. You can hear every movement the person in the flat above makes. And it doesn't stop there - when I looked at the place, there was a large patch of black mould on the bathroom ceiling which I was assured would be cleaned and fixed before I moved in. This is the worst service EVER!! 1) our tenant reported a problem (a damp patch) in the ceiling and the Estate Agent never dealt with it even though she was insisting it was getting worse and it was becoming a leak. They sent some one too late and then they said we would have to pay (a lot) for some repairs. Before the new owner took over I wouldn't have a bad word to say about Martin & Co, but standards have dropped dramatically, communication and feedback almost non existent. I am a current landlord (not for much longer) and certainly would not recommend them anymore.

Dealt with renting my property through Martin and Co. Tennant left a stream of debt and the house in a disgraceful state. This crowd refunded tenants deposit mistakenly to me which helped pay for some of the damage!! Would write a more detailed review except that everytime I think back to the years spent with them (coupled with an overbearing landlord), I get palpatations. Just don't choose them. They are bullies, and their landlord has given me so much grief and anxiety that I still wake up having had nightmares that he once again e-mailed me (something like 20 e-mails in 2 week period once). I'm really not surprised at seeing all the negative reviews. Folkestone branch is exactly the same. None of the staff care about any issues you have and they're all very lazy. There is no communication between staff. I have moved several times in the last 6 year's and with out a doubt this is the worst agency I've ever been with! Numerous calls to fix issues at the house have fallen through and service has always been completely awful. Staff didn't read emails, responded weeks later and took them ages to return deposit and they didnt even bother to reply for 3 weeks. I was awarded a financial amount even though I did not ask .

Nottingham branch full of idiots. Refused to fix problems in flat including an open patio door open for over a month, management refuses to discuss issues, aggressive staff. Allow people to enter flat without any notice on at least two occasions. After that try to extort money from my deposit by charging me for issues that were in place when I moved in. Martin and Co Nottingham is the worst letting agent we have ever had to deal with. When I moved in they lost the updated inventory and took 7 months to find it again, after about 6 email requests over the 7 months. (In my opinion this is probably a tactic they use to hold people's deposits back from them at the end of the tenancy). Rented out a property through this rediculous company. told me they had just done an inspection and everything was great. I was there at the time in the property and there were 2 broken toilet seats. Where to start from. Never responded to queries, 1 month late in fixing washing machine (poor job), was 2 days late in installment paycheck and got angry threatening call that I had to leave the premises. I rented a property from Martin & co for 8 years. The day I moved in they hadn't arranged for cleaners so I had to clean the house from top to bottom myself. Every year I renewed my tenancy I had to pay £60 for a piece of paper or (admin) as they call it! I hope that you haven't given in to this! The deposit will be held by the Deposit Protection Scheme - it isn't theirs to keep! You must take it to dispute through the DPS, it's free. Marting and Co wanted to keep £550 of my daughters money and today we have learnt that she will get it all back - please look into it!
