Good Points: Stunning resort - tucked away in the rainforest with the hotel built so you can't see it from the beach. It's not cheap, but the food is amazing, and the service is first class. Andaman has a beautiful beach with clear blue water but it can get a bit rocky when the tide goes out (late in the afternoon when we went). The resort is suitable for couples and families. We went during the school holidays and there were lots of children there but they didn't get in the way. Try the spa, as the view is amazing and I had a fantastic massage. The golf course is also great and quite challenging. It's worth hiring a car for one day to see the rest of the island, and try the trip to the reef as the snorkeling is great. It rained pretty much every day, but it wasn't a problem as it cleared quickly, and in most cases it was late in the afternoon when we'd had enough of the sun.

Bad Points: It's not for those on a tight budget, especially if you are a big drinker. It's also very isolated, so you only have the choice of Andaman or next door's Datai restaurants, neither of which are cheap. That was enough for us for nine nights, especially as the room service was so good, but others might find it limiting. You need to drive for 20 minutes into Pelangi Beach if you want something a bit cheaper. The standard rooms aren't super luxurious (for a 5 star), but they are still really nice with a big walk in shower. You only get a sea view if you book one of the more expensive rooms, although we were happy with the rainforest.

General comments: Andaman is a great place for a relaxing holiday where you have fantastic food and service in stunning surroundings (the wildlife is pretty impressive too). It's worth stopping off in Kuala Lumpar on route, as the shopping is fantastic (despite being a duty free island - Langkawi does not offer much more than cheap cigarettes).
