Bad Points: No customer service High premiums
General comments: I thought I had found a good insurance company with an average rate, considering my age. Well that sure changed when I had an accident. It was on the Garden State Parkway on a snowy/icy day, and I spun and hit a utility pole. NO ONE ELSE WAS INVOLVED. I didn't receive a ticket, and the NJTA never made a claim for the pole. Oh, and I wasn't hurt..
IFA Auto Car totalled my car, and it took me over a month of calling them (MY AGENCY, or the company never once called me to update me on my claim) to finally get my check. A few bucks I wouldn't have cared as much, but it was $8,000 that I needed to buy another car. That was time and effort. Plus, in just a week after the accident they had the nerve to send me a new premium for $1,075 more for an accident that didn't cost them ANYTHING basically. I went to cancel it before I had to make another payment (I just renewed the policy a month before and already paid 3 months coverage for the renewal). It just so happened that the accident fell within 4 days of my old policy ending and new policy beginning. SO, it took them another month to process my cancellation, and then another month to send me my refund. Again, no customer service, and when I did get to speak with someone they were rude as if it was my fault for the delays etc. I found out that my refund was not what I calculated based on what I already paid. And being so frustrated at this point, I said I'm not going to argue anymore with them. They're trying to say they upped my renewal because the accident happened on my old policy and the new one took effect a few days later. Now I know by law they can't bill me a new premium before my next renewal, but it just so happened that they found a way to get it in there, even though I paid my new renewal premium... ARGHHH. It's not worth the frustration and time and effort to BS with IFA. For all of this they lost a customer! I actually saved $1,000 off the previous premium I had from them by switching to Progressive, and so far just speaking to them alone has made me much more comfortable should anything happen.
