“2002 Zafira Club 2.0 DTi”

Firstly I should say that I got mine as the result of doing a direct swap for my 2003 Mazda 2 1.4 TS2. His wife needed a smaller car and I needed a Diesel car with a higher towing capacity so we did the deal. So far I am very happy with my swap and I have no problems to report whatsover. Pros: 1) It has a chain drive camshaft which as a mechanic is a massive plus in my book. Now I no longer have that constant nagging fear of the cambelt snapping unpredictably and completely destroying the cylinder head, leading to horrendous repair costs like most other motorists have to put up with...Driving becomes less stressfull and I can sleep easier too. 2) Vauxhall sold lots and lots of Zafiras, so used parts are now very cheap and plentyfull, should you need them of course. I recently bought five 15" 5-spoke alloys for it for just £60 (So I could could have an alloy spare too)and because 195/65R15 tyres are such a common tyre, decent part worns can be picked up for just £15 each, including fitting and balancing! The retractable parcel shelf/load cover (£150 from Vauxhalls) was missing in mine but I picked one up in mint condition for just £21. 3) It has a very nice, comfortable driving position. Its higher than most other cars so its easier to get in and out of it and you get a better view around you. The large windows give excellent visibilty, even out of the rear window. Although some other users report that the B pillars reduce visibilty out of the front corners I have not found this to be an issue...I simply use my neck and look around them! 4) It has huge reserves of low down torque. It has so much low down torque in fact that even when driving around town I can stay in top gear constantly, even at 30mph. In fact I find the only time I need to change gear is when pulling away from standstill, and of course this really helps with the MPG figure. I am easily getting 50mpg+ around town and considerably more on the motorways as long as I take it easy and stay at 70 or below. 5) The ride is really smooth. I live in an area where there are loads of unecessary speedbumps in the roads but they dont really bother me anymore. 6) It is quiet and refined to drive with fairly comfortable seats. Road and wind noise are very well controlled, you just hear the engine though even that is still quite quiet. Mine has an aftermarket Sony Stereo CD player with aux jackplug input which really helps while the miles away, though it does mean that entertainment system control buttons on the steering wheel and the trip computer do not function anymore. 7) It has rear disc brakes. This is my first car to have both front and rear discs brakes, instead of having ancient drum brakes at the rear. Along with ABS, this makes the stopping experience strong and predictable with very good feel through the brake pedal. 8) Its cheap to insure and run. I am paying just £4 more a month for fully comp insurance than I was paying for my old 1.4 litre Mazda 2 diesel! Cons: 1) Road tax for it isn't cheap (£107 for 6 months and about £195 for a year)...I can't think of anything else to mark it down on because its such a good car.

I had a Vauxhall Zafira 2.0 DTI Design and would still have it, but unfortunately got wrote off in an accident this year. It had very versatile seating, good that the 3rd row stows away in floor. Not very comfortable seating and handling not so good on bends with tyres that came on it but handling greatly improved with 4 new Michelin tyres, and they last a long time.
