Good Points: This was the first of the new auto focus Canon SLR. Therefore the price is very cheap, and is still able to use all the latest Canon EOS lenses. It has all the modes features necessary for good photography. Nice and solid, with a big meaty hand grip Lots of them around if it breaks just get another. I have brought many for friends at around $30 US
Bad Points: Auto focus and motordrive is not as fast as the new beginner models. Mode selection is not as good as the newer Canon dial models You will have to find the hand to get accessory hand grip for the cable release. The shutter rubber dampening can melt and gum up the shutter, only one focusing point
General comments: These are an excellent cheap EOS spare body for the price of a trip to McDonald's.
All the modes are the slightly hard to access ie instead of a palm door there is a flap at the bottom back of the camera.
All older independent manufacturers lenses fit, no need to rechip the lenses as in some of the newer models.
Solid and easy to handle with interchangeable grips and screens.
Auto focus is accurate although a little slow and locks on well in low light, it has less lens hunting for focus.
This camera was the base model with the 620 and 630 more pro based until the EOS-1 turned up.
Will eat similar age group Minoltas and Pentaxs for breakfast for auto focus
Overall an excellent camera
