“Great service”

Hi, I went for a eye check and was quite impressed with the overall standard of care and service. As the Ophthalmologist was not 100% sure with her own assessment, she asked me to wait and conduct another round of examination. I was called back in 2 weeks for follow up examination. Improvement area - The prescription report should not mix information (prescription) with publicity material. Prescription needs to be clear and use the right language. Eg. Saying "healthy for a patients age" needs to have more information on signs to watch out.

“Loving life without glasses!”

★★★★☆

written by on 19/10/2014

I was able to wear contact lenses for a while but then problems with my eyes meant that I had to wear glasses all the time. I didn't mind too much until the warmer months and then every year I had problems with 'sweaty nose' syndrome and hassles with prescription sunglasses. I had been told (incorrectly) by my optician that I was too old for laser eye surgery (at 38), but when my slightly older friends had surgery I decided to take the plunge myself. I'll be honest and say I didn't enjoy the surgery part or the hour immediately afterwards, at all - I was wondering if I would ever be able to open my eyes again - but since then my vision has been great. A few issues with dry eyes in the first few weeks, but now everything is fine! My only slight gripe is that I was asked to obtain a doctor's letter before surgery could go ahead because of some medication I had previously been on, which I did at a cost of £15, but I was never even asked for the letter so this was a complete waste of time and money. I also felt a little like I was on a conveyor belt on the day of surgery as I was one of several people all being rushed through on the same day - not quite the personal service I was expecting. However, I feel the results outweigh these minor points.

“20:20 vision in 2014”

★★★★☆

written by Sparks392 on 14/10/2014

I had put off lazer eye surgery for a number of years and it wa the biggest mistake ever! The initial consultation was very quick and easy. You had the usual tests but it was all carried out by a friendly and knowledgeable consultant. The actual surgery was arranged for my convenience and every thing was clearly explained. The surgery was uncomfortable and the initial 3-4 hours after the anaesthetic wore off was a bit painfully. The next morning I woke to very clear vision. My eyes were dry initially but the drops provided soon cleared that up. Close vision was blurred but cheap reading glasses sorted that. Over the next week I was able to do things that I couldn't previously due to my glasses. At the same time the blurring of my near vision improved and I needed the reading glasses less and less. I would definitely recommend the procedure and would suggest that you don't wait as long as me.

“The result is great”

★★★★☆

written by Jeannette67 on 14/10/2014

The surgery was unpersonal and painful. The staff did their best but I felt uncomfortable and was afraid. The very small recovery room makes me not feel better. The two hours following the surgery were like hel, but the result is overwhelming! I am lucky that I did it and after a couple of days I had the optimal result. Some weeks of sensitive eys, couldn't have to strong light, but it was worth it!

“Big decision but well worth it!”

★★★★☆

written by on 14/10/2014

I was very impressed with the level of pre and post Op care. Whilst the procedure was a bit nerve wracking, everyone was so professional and reassuring it made it much easier. Some things during the procedure freaked me out a bit and I don't think were properly explained beforehand - like the orange light which I couldn't always see. Afterwards you are told everything has worked as it should so that was a relief. My eyes took a few weeks to settle down but now my vision is perfect.

“Overall, very happy with the experience”

★★★★☆

written by Jose76 on 13/10/2014

Overall, very happy with the experience. The surgery itself and the after care were great. The only thing I would point out was in fact the first consultation, when I believe the information should be given in a much clearer way. At the time it felt that I would have benefited from an depth explanation of all options and consequences, to the same level they were written in the contract. Not having done so actually put at risk my decision to go through and obliged my to have further contacts to go through all my concerns. Having said this, from that point onwards, all went very well! And this is actually the point from where I would want it to go well! :) The surgery and the days after went exactly as explained to me. And I always felt the after care was done with..... well, with care! so I did not experience any lack of interest from the practice after the surgery was done, on the contrary. My procedure was the LASIK iDesign, and I am very happy with the results.

“Could have used more info”

★★★★☆

written by taztaz44 on 13/10/2014

I just had Lasek to correct my eyesight. It was -1.o and -0.75 so I was told that Lasek would give me the same results as Lasik but at a much cheaper cost but with a slightly longer recovery time. I was given the impression that the recovery would take two days longer and as it was a thousand pounds cheaper, that seemed quite acceptable. What they didn't tell me was the fact I wouldn't be able to drive for six days and that I would hardly be able to see for much of that time. This made working difficult, so if you're going for a Lasek procedure, keep this in mind. However, now that it over and my eyes are working I'm very pleased with the results. The surgeon told me that as my prescription was stable and due to my age (35) I should never need surgery or glasses again for distance viewing. Overall it has been very good value for money.

“The Way Foward”

★★★★☆

written by ErnestSaunders on 13/10/2014

After struggling to remember to have my glasses with me at all times I decided to go for some optical lens implants. The operation was painless and quick and after a few days the improvement in close up vision was remarkable. My mid to distance vision is taking longer to improve but it is getting there, and there is no way I would want to go back to the vision I had before the treatment. No need now for glasses.........bliss!!!

there were some trouble with the appointment and where to go, but after all i am very happy that i did it. i was 19 when i did it and i understand why some people who do it when they're older say i should have done it earlier. i am glad i have spend the money now, because it will make life and different experiences like holidays much more fun. because i can do whatever i want, and not have to worry about glasses or contacts.

“Good care and follow up”

★★★★☆

written by Waugh417 on 30/03/2014

I had an excellent experience at Optical Express. The surgeon was kind to explain all the necessary steps of the procedure and I felt completely safe during the process. The staff were very professional and took good care of my needs in all the follow up appointments I have attended. My eyes have 20/20 vision now, so I am very please with the results. There was some dryness experienced during the 6 months of recovery, for which drops were provided to be taken on a daily basis. I liked the fact that I could do 10 monthly payments, which allowed me to budget for this procedure.

“I'm almost 3 months post idesign treatment, one eye is...”

written by on 25/02/2014

I'm almost 3 months post idesign treatment, one eye is fabulous, the other is getting there. The surgery was no bother, I experienced no pain during or after. The follow up care was excellent, the staff were very friendly and helpful and gave me all the post treatment advice and products I needed at no extra cost. I found it somewhat difficult to get through to the relevant person to ask questions before the surgery but once I asked my questions I got most of the answers I asked for. So hopefully I will get better than 20/20 vision as per the guarantee - I'll let you know! Nearly there :)

“Laser eye surgery - One of the best things I have ever...”

★★★★☆

written by alisonlindley on 21/02/2014

I would recommend laser eye surgery, it is one of the best decisions I have ever made. Having worn glasses for over 25 years, it is great to wake up in the morning, as soon as I open my eyes I can see. I am not feeling around for glasses left at the side of the bed from the night before. I have also had several mishaps with contact lenses wripping with the remaining part stuck under my eye lid, which could take hours to remove. I can go swimming and do not have to wear glasses, it is given me a new lease of life a helped boost my self confidence.

“Wish I had done it earlier!”

★★★★☆

written by R_R-81 on 20/02/2014

After having worn glasses and contacts for 18 years I decided to look into the possibilities of life without either of them. The problem with glasses is you always have to keep in mind what kind of weather it is. The problem with contacts is that you can't keep them in for too long or it starts getting uncomfortable. I had worn contacts for so long that I developed a sort of resistance to them. After just a couple of hours of having them in, it felt like I already had them in for a whole day, so it was a very unpleasant feeling. So after the first consult and explanations about the pros and cons. I decided to just go and do it. The staff tells you that it is very important that you try to rest and get some sleep for the first 4 to 6 hours after the procedure. Trust me, they know what they are talking about, but I of course had to find out the hard way. After 3 hours of pain and a weird feeling of dry but teary eyes, runny nose and wondering why I had the procedure done, while not being able to touch my eyes. I took 2 advils for the pain and slept for a couple of hours. When I woke up the pain was gone and I could see very clear without the aid of glasses or contacts. Everything was just a little foggy, but they told me before that was going to be the case. The next day I had my first check-up and everything seemed fine and they again told me that my sight was gonna get better and that I just had to keep using my drops. I had my intralase wavefront lasik procedure done 3 months ago and I have to say that I am very pleased with the results. The first 2 months I felt the need to use the drops often because of the feeling of very dry eyes all the time. The last couple of weeks have been very great and when I wake up in the morning I don't feel any discomfort or dry eyes. So if there is somebody out there wondering about the risks just go to a free consult and let them inform you about the different procedures.I would recommend this to anybody who feels that they are done with wearing glasses and/or contacts and who wants to enjoy every day to the fullest.

“Overall a very good experience”

★★★★☆

written by on 17/02/2014

Once I had logged my interest on the Optical Express website I was quickly called back and an appointment made. When I was unable to make this appointment another was quickly and easily made. At the appointment the member of staff that dealt with me was polite, friendly and very knowledgeable on all aspects of the surgery and the options available to me. On the day of my surgery the procedure was again explained to me along with any potential problems that might arise. The procedure itself was quickly and profesionally completed in less than 15 minutes with minimal discomfort. The only downside on the day of the procedure was that the aftercare was explained to me whilst I still felt a bit disorientated and there was a lot to take in. All of my follow up appointments were fairly straight forward and routine. There were issues with booking appointments though as these could only be arranged a matter of days earlier as there were staff shortages.

“Refractive Lens Exchange”

It is great not having to wear glasses anymore as my appearance is so much better without them. Being able to read and see things in the distance without glasses is great. When playing golf I can see the ball much better, even better than I could see it when I was wearing glasses. If playing golf in the rain do not have to worry about glasses being fogged up.

“No more glasses!!”

★★★★☆

written by Maggiebaer on 17/02/2014

I had laser treatment a year ago and have been very pleased with the results. Not having to wear glasses all the time is a real treat. I can see everything in such detail now. And reading is no problem - I have purchased some off-the-shelf readers from Boots for when I need them. So the payback period for the financial outlay of the operation is very short indeed. The consultation before the procedure was excellent. The consultants were not at all pushy and provided a reassuring assessment. The whole operation was painless and the follow-up appointments were very thorough giving complete peace of mind. I have recommend laser eye surgery to all my short-sighted friends.

“changed my life”

★★★★☆

written by on 17/02/2014

I underwent lens replacement surgery at the Giffnock centre, the treatment there and at the Renfrew street branch were both very good and the staff were helpful and friendly. The procedure was explained in full and my questions answered.I was mainly looked after by a young guy from the opticians in renfrew st,he was then also there at Giffnock,he really made me feel at ease and was so very helpful at all times. He put me at ease at a nervous time. The ops were one week apart, both were pain free and gave me amazing results. My right eye was the worst, that night when i took off the dressing i could see like i had not seen for many years.I had follow up check ups and all was fine.I see things now i never was able to see prior,i can read ,watch t.v etc and have no need for glasses.I now know i should have done this years ago.I cannot put into words what it is now like for me,but i can say i smile alot when i look onto beautiful scenery around me,i can look out from my home over the solway and see scotland,i can see the land, buildings and the sea seperating us ,i knew it was there but could not see it before my ops...amazing.Made possible by two ten minute operations which replaced my lenses with custom made prescription lenses.

“Quick & simple”

★★★★☆

written by on 16/02/2014

Laser eye surgery with optical express was a quick and simple process from the initial consultation through to the after care. Surgery one day, cleared for driving the next. All staff were helpful and thoughtful. Better than 20/20 vision, but took an allergic reaction to the eye drops, once these were changed everything felt great, I've never looked back! No need for glasses or contacts , no need to think about limitations for contact sports or activities where glasses just don't suit. Overall a great experience
