    Good Points: none

    Bad Points: it's a GDV520

General comments: do yourself a favour and do what I did .....rush down to SAFEWAYS and buy a COMPACKS DVD5000 for £49-49p and connect this up to your GDV520 Amp !! then sit back and enjoy everything you couldn't do with the GDV520 player !!

This is the worst player on the market.....nothing seems to work right on it. From day 1 the thing kept overheating and shutting down...it constantly jumped no matter the disc played and the amp made a strange buzzing sound. So i decided to put a region code into it.....and surprise, surprise...it now plays nothing since i put the code into it....we plays music discs.

I bought the complete grundig GDV520 system for £300 2 years ago - seemed a bargain at the time!!! The subwoofer powering down is a stupid thing - i even reboxed it and took it back claiming it was faulty until they told me it was meant to do that.

Strange how they package a player with DTS and a Decoder without the facility to use it. There is a digital out facility on the Grundig GDV520 DVD player but this is lacking on the amplifier. Overall picture quality is good but so is a separate at a quarter of the price. When it comes to future expandability "Caveat Emptor"

I bought this Grundig GDV520 system from Curry's for £80 as a managers special. If I had paid full price I would have been miffed!
The subwoofer power-up noise is very annoying, the software hangs-up occasionally and it does not play VCD's. Also some DVD's which this model won't play work fine with other more expensive players.
The picture however is excellent (with a decent scart lead)and the sound is also excellent (apart from the dodgy subwoofer). This player is made by Oritron and r ...

Why on earth should I feel that every time I buy a disk for my Grundig GDV520 DVD player, it's a lottery as to whether the damn thing will work. (The exception not the rule to be fair - but this should never happen!!)

The thing also 'hangs' for no reason sometimes and you need to actually unplug it to get it to work again

Sound is good but there is a weird sub woofer power up noise every now and then - you get used to it.

In a nutshell - you pay hard earned money for something you expe ...

I have had hassle with my Grundig GDV520 DVD player, it flickers, does not settle and the remote does not function correctly.

The Grundig GDV520 DVD player is not exactly top quality. Yes, it's a budget machine and you pay for what you get, but I expected better things. The subwoofer constantly powers down, and then comes back on, and then powers down, which is very noticable and spoils the overall enjoyment of the film that you are watching. This is especially evident during scenes where there is only talking. The player itself doesn't have the best picture in the world. My LG player is far better. The player also ten ...

The Grundig GDV520 DVD player is a great 5:1 dolby surround home theater kit.
