Good Points: The Walkers brand nearly always delivers good quality at a very reasonable price. These crisps are usually available at around 38p/bag and are also available in "multi-packs" at a discounted rate from most good supermarkets.
Bad Points: None really, you are in total control of your potato-based snack so it's your own fault if you don't like them!!
General comments: Crisps are delicious and these little beauties are one of my favourites. Salt&Shake hold nostalgic memories for me!, mainly of being a younger lad, back in the day when Smiths used to produce this particular brand. Walkers have given the brand a bit of a makeover(foil wrapper) in recent times but the packaging has remained faithful to the old style and the little salt sachet is still blue!!
I like the fact that you are in total control of your snack. You can pour in all the salt and not shake, thus resulting in an intense "salt hit" for your first few crisps then the salt factor diminishes and you can relax with your "plain" crisps, alternatively you can enter as much or as little of the salt sachet as you want, shaking vigourously for an even dislacement of the salt. If you want you can chuck the little blue sachet away and enjoy a totally "plain" potato crisp experience.
If I go to an unfamiliar store which sell potato-based snacks I am always left infuriated when they try to pass off "Ready Salted" as "plain" crisps to me. They are not "plain" they already have the salt on them!! I am very lucky that my local newsagent acknowledges that there is a difference and he always has some Salt'N'Shake in stock for me.
I think I can remember a television advert for these crisps back in the 1980's, starring the blue salt sachet as a kind of funny little cartoon character, I think this advertising campaign sparked my affection for this tasty snack. As a young lad it wouldn't be unusual for me to eat all of the crisps "plain", then I would tear the salt sachet open and top up my mum's salt cellar on the kitchen table. I never managed to fill the salt cellar using this method but I had a right good go, on the odd occasion I would even eat all my crisps "plain", then chew the salt sachet!!!.
I would highly recommend Walkers Salt'N'Shake as they are a real tasty snack, Walkers leave you to be in charge of the flavouring and they are readily available and reasonably priced, buy your bag today!!
