My son had a McDougalls Upper Crust steak & peppered sauce pie this evening and it was a mass of gravy on his plate with a few tiny bits of meat in a pastry case. It looked just like runny dog or cat food in a pie, nothing like the photo on the box. 'Flavoursome pies filled with prime steak in a rich and creamy peppered sauce' This is totally misleading and I will not be buying this pie ever again. (read more)

This is hilarious.Recently bought my mother a laptop, and today was showing how anything at all could be Googled. Suggested we looked for something topical, and we had just been talking about some awful McDougall pies she had bought from Morrisons and eaten this week, so I googled McDougall pies and found this page. The comments are exactly what we had been saying. Luckily she has kept the packaging. I am going top this back to Morrisons for a refund - and I might also print off some of the... (read more)

I had one of these pies tonight with my family, it was rubbish and I have instructed my wife NEVER to buy them again.
In 1993 I bought a pack of 4 of their pies from Tesco in Chatham, I cooked and ate one, well I say ate, I gave up when I couldn't find any meat and then wrapped them up and posted them back to McDougals writing FREEPOST on the packaging, I bet that they must have stunk by the time they got to the company's offices but what the heck? They obviously don't care about their customers and that explains why the rip us off so why should I care if they get a smelly parcel? McDougals sent me vouchers to spend on more of their products, I tore them in half and sent them back, again writing FREEPOST on the envelope and including a letter telling them what they could do with their vouchers, they replied with an unaccompanied cheque for the amount that I had originally paid for the pies in Tesco, I never heard from them again but mark my words, they WILL be hearing from me.

Bought 2 Steak and peppered gravy pies for my husband and daughter. They looked and smelt promising whilst cooking. When cut into, all there was was gravy! My husband had NO MEAT at all in his pie and my daughter had two of the smallest pieces imaginable. I will write a letter of complaint to McDougalls and see what they have to say. The pastry and the gravy were very tasty. Pity about the content. They could have been delicious! (read more)

I bought 4 steak and pepper sauce pies at Morrisons. I never buy pies, always make my own. When I cooked the pies I was expecting to find big chunks of prime steak inside as per picture on the box, however there was about 4 tiny pieces of meat and tons of disgusting sauce, which tasted like nothing. What a waste of money, and it is disappointing that any decent supermarket should sell such rubbish. (read more)

This is the second time we have tried these pies now and I am so disappointed that I will never have them again, the meat content in the whole pie was 1 piece of meat measuring 2 centimetres by 1 centimetre, the rest was sauce, these steak and pepper pies are a lie and the makers ( macdougles ) should be sued for it. Bought from Waitrose, so I expected some quality standard. First disappointment was to find that the chicken had been sourced from Thailand, so hardly reared with care. The 'sauce' overflowed onto the baking tray, the pastry was dry and inedible, filling minimal and tasteless - a few small cubes of chicken and a trace of asparagus. What a waste of money - will never buy another McDougalls' pie. One from a stall round the back of the Odeon would have been better quality. There is... (read more)

Whilst I have no intention of claiming their offered refund, I think their claim is so terribly wrong. I must say though that I don't like 95% of todays mass produced products.
To my mind, the best part of McDougalls pies is the pastry. It is the shortest pastry that I have ever come across in a mass produced pie, and most enjoyable. Whilst I have not weighed the amounts of meat in...
