Good Points: None.
Bad Points: See comments.
General comments: Took out a policy with eCar as they were the cheapest but had to cancel within a month. You can only get in touch with them via email so it's difficult to discuss any issues with your policy or changes and it takes a long time to enter details online to get new quotes. When my car broke down I tried to get quotes to insure a car I could borrow and it took me half a day of entering details online and waiting for replies to my emails to get a price (which was not competitive at all).
I bought a new car and when I entered new details the online system was trying to charge me nearly £200 more than the annual price on a fresh quote. That was the last straw and I cancelled my policy.
Although eCar market themselves as an online only provider things are different when it comes to returning your money. I received an email saying that when customers cancel their insurance they send out a cheque two weeks after the cancellation date. I'm still waiting for the cheque.

eCar Insurance seemed cheap at first but then made a claim (not my fault). Customer service - poor. Given wrong numbers. Charged extra to hire courtesy car. Taken 4 weeks to get car taken away to be repaired - would still be sat there if I hadn't demanded that it be done through my own insurance - there was a reason I wanted fully comprehensive. Basically sub-contract every part of claim between numerous companies, none of which it seems are able to speak to each other. No clear explanations giv ...

We had the catalytic converter stolen from our car and so phoned eCar to get authorisation for the repair, which they gave. This is where the problems started. We had to pay for the cost of repairs ourselves to get the vehicle back on the road as there is a disabled member of our family who relies on it. We are still waiting for reimbursment three months on.

The people answering the phone don't seem to deal with your case, they take your details and then tell you someone will call you back. If someone does call you back you need to be able to answer your phone at any time as even when you point out that you can not answer you phone at certain times they call you whenever they want to.
If you do need to make a claim I hope you have plenty of time to wait as we have been waiting for more than a week just to talk to someone who can deal with the claim ...

Steer well clear - I lost a hefty deposit and still feel I got off lightly.
This business seems like its been run on a shoe string to keep costs down - very, very poor level of service.

My experience with eCar Insurance was a total shambles. In all, 7 companys involved in a non fault accident 8+ weeks and we still not have our car back and no replacement or hire car.....we are fully comp but with e-Car its like having third party only ...it may seem a cheap price but you will pay if you have a claim. Even a non fault one...an awful company... avoid at all costs.

I have made 2 claims through eCar Insurance. One was non-fault accident, the other attempted theft. E car Insurance dealt with both claims without any hassle. I would highly recommend them to anyone wanting cheaper car insurance.

Hi there,
I'm wondeing if anybody can help me or give me some advice.
I took out an insurance policy with Ecar insurance in September 2007, i arranged to pay them monthly by Direct Debit on the 15th of each month. In January 2008 my direct debit for ecar was returned by my bank and therefore i defaulted on a payment. As soon as i found out i emailed ecar (because you can't phone them) and was told if i paid my policy in full by the 5th February 2008 they wouldn't cancel my car insurance.
I the ...

Took out a policy with eCar Insurance on my provisional licence having 4 years no claims on a bike policy. They told me that they would apply the no claims discount once I passed. I passed the following week and they informed me that in that time the underwriters had some policy rate changes and that (coincidentally) my policy with the no claims was no exactly the same cost as with 4 years. I cancelled today and went with NFU mutual. Far more pleasant, easy to deal with and even cheaper. Never a ...

I insured my car with E-Car at the beginning of Feb and i paid for the full year up front. I thought great as they were a lot cheaper than everyone else. I did it all online, paid and that was that. I received my policy document no problem. It stated i needed to prove my no claims discount. I emailed the main email address stating my previous policy number and all the details i had and said i will get them to send me proof and i shall forward it on. This i did 2 days later, had no response sayin ...

I took out a second car insurance with ecar, when asked if i had any no claims i informed them that i had, i was unaware that this affected the final quote. i was unable to read the information on the policy as it was sunday and the information was not available until monday, i attempted on line to cancel the policy. when i finally was able to speak to a customer adviser the following day they cancelled the policy but at a charge of £25 ( the initial deposit was £57.75), this was for ...

Have just changed my car and have purchased a car which is actually in a lower insurance group than my previous one, eCar wanted £1100 just to change my policy, absolutely ridiculous. Also, you can't speak to anyone! Stay well away from eCar, they may seem inexpensive but really in my experience they are not.

As things stand at present I am 2 months into a post accident situation and yet no-one has seen the car, the firm they use to process the claims is called ""THE CLAIMS SERVICE" - it should be renamed the claims non- service. They claim so far to have lost the estimates for the repairs to the car 8 times including 4 faxes, the ;last 2 faxes they lost was despite ringing the garage to confirm that they'd received the fax. Under no circumstances should anyone use ecar or any insurance company that ...

The eCar Insurance company is useless, half the phone numbers they give you don't work, one person told me they are investigating my claim while another told me they haven't got a claim registered on my account. They took weeks to decide what they are doing with my car during which time I was not eligible for a courtesy car, despite paying extra to get one! No one knows what they are talking about, I had my accident 5 weeks ago and still nothing is happening, they even confused my claim with one ...

I am very unhappy with Ecar car insurance, and I do not want to renew my policy this year or any other year.
I had an accident back in March while doing a turn in the road, and a van who was breaking the speed limit by a considerable amount crashed into the side of my passenger side, writing my car off. Luckily for me, Ecar did pay out eventually; although I have read on forums that this hasn't been the case for other people, but Ecar would not fight for my case with the other insurance comp ...

I had an accident in early December and no one else was involved. It took until the 2nd of January to call an assessor out to my appointed garage, which they were definitely not happy with. One day they said that the car was a write off. The next day they said it could be repaired, then I was told it was a write off. I starting looking for another similar car and found that it would cost me an extra 2,000 because we got this car cheap. I needed 6000 to replace it, and eCar car insurance offe ...

If you're aged between 17 - 19, you have got to try eCar Car Insurance. I was searching around for ages. I eventually gave up and was about to pay out on my cheapest quote with Tesco at £1600, but eCar gave me a quote for comprehensive insurance at £1000, and third party fire and theft for £700. You have got to try them. They're too good to be true.
