“Worst kitchen supplier”

★★☆☆☆

written by GinaPP200 on 30/03/2023

We naively chose Magnet as the designer looked knowledgeable and the kitchens in the showroom looked good. However, that designer quit Magnet, so did a couple more that we were assigned (I'm guessing work culture is as bad as their customer service). In a nutshell: * Kitchen not delivered at the agreed time (1.5 months later), 2 doors still missing after 3 months of kitchen delivery. * granite worktop faulty. * Final contract and itemisation has not been shared with us, regardless of countless requests. * Faulty microwave. But the WORST is their poor customer service

“Disgraceful aftercare at Magnet Kitchens ”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Johwesley on 07/12/2022

Where do you want me to start?? It’s really simple don’t invest or waste/spend any of your money with Magnet. We had white gloss kitchen quite large (open plan focal point) and utility costing over £8k and £4k worktops Several of our doors (out of 40) have over past few months started to discolour quite significantly. Contacted branch and first thing they said was ‘Has the kitchen been in direct sunlight’? Not oh we are sorry to hear that. That is the kitchen is 4 years old we have had our commission and now not interested. So they said send us some photos and we will to warranty team. Warranty team have acknowledged the discolouration is manufacturing faults and that it falls within the 5 year guarantee. Since then they have failed to answer any emails or make contact as requested. The store simply say it’s in the hands of the warranty team. So we have been forced to get advice on how to proceed BUT BE WARNED AND DONT RISK WASTING OR SPENDING ANY MONEY WITH THEM. SERIOUSLY GO ELSEWHERE UNLESS YOU WANT TO RISK ENDING UP IN THE SAME STRESSFUL SITUATION AS WE ARE IN. I have posted full reviews on trustpilot and will continue to post as many reviews as possible on all other available sites to warn others until our complaint is fully resolved to our satisfaction.

“Avoid Magnet - customer service shocking”

★☆☆☆☆

written by davidbond007 on 28/09/2022

Avoid using Magnet Leeds - don't be drawn in by the shiny showroom and advertising hype around discounts and offers. The showroom is impressive and you walk in expecting to "create the kitchen of your dreams" - the reality is that design was poor (issues when coming to get it fitted included lack of space to walk round breakfast bar, unable to open and use washing machine if units were fitted as per plans and base unit couldnt be fitted due to plumbing) and customer service plus their "class leading project management" was non existent. We used their fitter who helped us work through the issues and he was fantastic (drafted in from Huddersfield branch). We spent £12k + and customer service was consistently and sadly lacking. No branch contact at all to see if we were happy with the installation or end result. I asked them for money back for items delivered that were not used on installation. Contact from the start was driven by me asking them questions and to do things. I ended up taking out all the old kitchen myself and organising a plasterer, electrician and plumber to keep things moving while they messed around getting a fitter assigned. Started process in June and completed end Sept.

“Terrible, stressful and costly experience. Avoid at...”

★☆☆☆☆

written by JohnL84 on 28/07/2022

Steer well clear of this company and the Enfield branch in particular. It is now over a year since we purchased a kitchen costing over £15k. We have dealt with several 'managers' in this time and had to endure multiple site visits as record keeping is not Magnets strong point. Nor, in fact, are installation or product quality. Having stored items for Magnet for most of this year, we are still waiting for this company to fulfil its contractual and statutory obligations. Stressful is not the word. Mistake more accurately describes it. Avoid at all costs.

“HELLS KITCHEN SHOWROOM AT MAGNET”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Koch478 on 21/03/2022

HELLS KITCHEN, or KITCHEN SHOWROOM FROM HELL. A more disinterested, underwhelmingly disrespectful gang of staff, operators and owners you would struggle to find anywhere. Particularly at the Watery Lane, Preston, Lancashire showroom, where my wife and I, both of whom are elderly disabled pensioners visited hoping to install a kitchen designed around our needs of eye level placement due to our inability to bend, looking for layout idea's, a brochure, and hopefully get some design input coupled to a cost estimate. Unfortunately, having parked up and entered the building, not a single person could be bothered to raise sufficient enthusiasm even to notice us as they were all way too busy laughing and talking between themselves. Worse still, nobody bothered to point out the need to record our car registration. A requirement we discovered weeks later when a demand for £60 (raised to £100 on appeal) appeared through our letter box, despite there being no sign as per IPC requirements at the site entrance, and no signs in the bays we used. There is however a small sign at the door entrance. But unfortunately, as my wife walks with a stick with her free arm linked to mine for steadiness, we both need to look down ahead of us so as not to trip each other up. So yes, we missed it. And as I've said, the staff were too busy with each other to put us right. All subsequent appeals have now failed, including one to the MD of Magnet personally. A cheap shot, 'robbing' elderly, disabled, genuine customers. Well, would-be customers. I personally would never go back there again. So a blessing in disguise in some ways as the kitchen units are poor quality, and allegedly, the fitting and after-sales service is equally poor. Not the best approach to boosting income. On the plus side, loosing the £100 may turn out to be a blessing in disguise long term. Stick with Wickes, Wren, or B&Q. All better quality by far, with genuine 'free' customer car parking.

“Excellent customer service”

★★★★★

written by on 27/12/2021

I recently purchased a kitchen from the Sunderland branch of Magnet. I received excellent customer service from the kitchen designer from day one. Nothing was too much trouble no matter how much I changed my mind. There was an excellent selection of colours and materials also lots of accessories. As soon as I was ready to have my kitchen installed it was delivered promptly without any fuss. It is now nearly finished and looks amazing. I went for pale grey shaker doors with black sink and wood block benches. The accessories are black and the sink and tap are also black which really stand out and look very smart.I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Magnet to anyone for there efficiency and competitive prices.Thankyou Magnet for my dream kitchen.

“Terrible service, avoid!”

★☆☆☆☆

written by jkAdams240 on 23/12/2021

The quality of service from Magnet kitchens is absolutely awful and I would not recommend them under any circumstances!! Pretty much everything was done badly – they were very disorganised, communication was really really poor and the quality of the installation was bad (29 snagging problems to date - some minor, some major). The process has been really time-consuming and stressful. The installers tried to fob me off a lot of the time when I pointed out faults and Magnet have shown very little interest in putting things right. I’ve been chasing them for several weeks for a substantial refund I’m owed (not paid yet). They put my email address and mobile number on their marketing lists after I asked them not to.

“very poor experience”

★☆☆☆☆

written by NoelAllen on 15/12/2021

The kitchen supplied was not what we discussed in-store with the designer, the handles we chose were replaced with units without handles, extra panels were supplied which prior to delivery we tried to cancel, but were told we could not and we had to pay for. The final design turned out to be unusable as designed since the stand-alone fridge freezer could not be fitted in, it was only the fitter redesigning the kitchen at our expense that it could be made workable. A very bad experience.

“I cant begin to say how awful a company to deal with”

★☆☆☆☆

written by SatisifedDisastisfied on 15/12/2021

The "designer" (or element slotter?) in the Bath store failed to update the order with the result that handless rather than handled units were installed (this mattered as the handled units gave more space in a small kitchen) but then included an ugly panel box frame on the order at a cost of £1,250. The problem with either magnet or the element-slotter was that they/he refused to remove the additional parts costing £1,250 from the order. The result was that we had to pay for the unwanted parts in order to receive the other units. There was a grudging " you can return if unopened " (we are talking floor to ceiling panels - we have a small car ...) , which is where an additional problem came in as the fitter ignored a specific instruction not to open the panels but instead opened and INSTALLED. So, because of magnets "contract as per false order" and magnents/the stores refusal to move the items from the contract or at least not ship, compounded by the fitter ignoring an instruction not to open, the RESULT IS £1,250 WASTED. Unwanted parts were removed and binned - and yes I did cry at the waste of money.

“Poor quality, dreadful customer service, suspicious...”

★☆☆☆☆

written by G.Ougers on 21/10/2021

£11000 for a Magnet Trade Kitchen bought on my debit card. Items missing and damaged, units that didn’t fit because Magnet ‘measured incorrectly’. Bottom line they refused to deal with me hiding behind data protection laws stating they can only deal with the trade account holder who is the builder that left our house a mess. They are in cahoots.

“Dreadful from start to finish”

★☆☆☆☆

written by jas1988 on 25/08/2021

Dreadful customer service. Missing and damaged units. They then offered a compensation amount of 20% of the value of the replacement items. Not to mention I was missold the entire kitchen in the first place.

“Horrible Staff & service”

★☆☆☆☆

written by ysHogan134 on 23/06/2021

Magnet are absolute trash. Their trustpilot reviews are fake (very easy to do, TP are complicit in this behaviour). Their customer service is appalling. Kitchens are low quality vs the price (their new CEO probs just focussed on bottom line). The way they talk to customers and resolve (their own caused) issues is terrible. I've worked with multiple branches, all bad. Swansea and Bedford in particular = very bad.

“Kitchen nightmare”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Shyann224 on 16/05/2021

A year ago I was having my dream… A year ago I was having my dream kitchen installed total spend over 11.000 pounds I paid magnet for installation. Within weeks 5 cupboard doors had delaminated and compact laminate worktop blistered I had nova integra fitted.Nearly 9 months later after magnet refused to do anything to rectify, the ombudsman withheld my complaint of doors being replaced, it’s been extremely stressful, and upsetting and it’s certainly took the shine out of my dream kitchen so be warned no aftercare. I repeatedly tried to contact the manager at Shrewsbury branch but he never returned any calls. My kitchen like many had a guarantee but magnet did not honour it. Needless to say I have no trust in product or company. I wish a thousand times I had never used them.

“Magnet Kitchen Later issues”

★★★☆☆

written by Farley21 on 01/04/2021

Magnet Kitchen designed and fitted by magnet (Winchester Sage) Eventually happy with the design. (Changed our minds a few times). Though we did most of the designing ourselves magnet just supplied the pretty pictures and drawings. Overall we are happy with the install. though the little things mean the most. Like finishing of the edges putting the door pads on were not well adhered to. But now we have an issue with one of the doors where the paint/finish is coming away, all the other doors are fine. Its now been over a week and still no response from the Branch apart from Emails suggesting that the manager is on his day off and will respond when he gets in still nothing.

“I SINCERELY ADVISE YOU NOT TO USE MAGNET”

★☆☆☆☆

written by NickRMC on 05/01/2021

From start to finish my experience was a shambles, I would never use Magnet again, nor recommend them. Kitchen design experience was OK, I had the basic layout I wanted, small kitchen and small budget so little room for creativity. I decided to try Magnet after seeing an offer online, I went to Magnet Trade, I couldn’t have the offer, but I could have 66% off trade prices (I’m not trade) this seemed like a fantastic offer on face value, however prices have been bumped up, so that they can be discounted. The kitchen seemed extremely expensive for a handful of units, I pared the cost right back by removing worktops, sink and even cupboard handles, and supplied all my own appliances. I was having a boiler fitted and wanted a wall unit to fit around it, I decided to leave this out of the quote, and measure up once the boiler was fitted. I needed a kitchen quickly, so placed the order and paid upfront, I was given a 4 week delivery date, which felt OK, (was hoping for quicker), I decided to collect to save £50. I was then advised that a number of items would be a further 4 weeks, on investigation these were just door fronts and kickboards so accepted this, I was provided with a temporary corner post to allow me to set out). I collected the first batch and found I had missing items, extra items (sides from wall cupboard I had asked to be removed), extra hinges (not cheap), somebody else’s door (cream not white), and damaged items. I returned to the store to sort this all out, the missing items had to be ordered, adding to my items outstanding. I fitted the kitchen, had the boiler fitted and measured up for the cupboard, thought I would look at other suppliers, managed to get 2 units for less than the single unit I had been quoted, plus they were delivered within 7 working days. The quality is equal if not better, and the slab matt white matched perfectly, very happy with these. (should have done this in first place!!) The remainder of my order arrived, with a door was missing, I kept ringing the store to find out what was happening, my calls were never returned, finally I was advised that the door was lost and would have to be re-ordered, delivery date 16th December, I spoke with the store manager and agreed to have the other items delivered immediately for free, and the final door delivered once it arrived. I called the store on 16th December, the delivery had arrived but they couldn’t find the door, again I rang daily but my calls were never returned, finally I was told on 23rd Dec that they had my door, I asked for it to be delivered as agreed, waited to hear back, again no returned call. I called on 24th December only to find the store had closed for Christmas with my door locked inside. I logged a complaint with Magnet Head Office, explained to their customer services rep that I would go and collect if somebody would open up, I was told all she could do was log it in “the system”. Christmas passed with one door missing, on the 27th I received a call from the manager Ian who offered to drop the door off on his way home, which of course I accepted, why this couldn’t have happened before Christmas is beyond me. Over 3 months from order until fully received!! Magnet quickly need to improve their quotation system, stock handling, communication, management and customer service, otherwise they will go bust, there are plenty of new online companies ready to step in.

“New somerton kitchen Sept _ dec 2020 ”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Moto8290 on 01/01/2021

Stay clear, Terrible customer service, absolutely shocking fitting ( Poole branches so called best fitter) No wall plugs had been used just 3inch screws driven straight into the walls. Extractor hood had actually slipped down the plasterboard wall within 24hrs of it being fitted. Kitchen wall units were also coming away from wall due to no plugs being used!! when we purchased the kitchen we paid for a weeks worth of fitting. The kitchen fitter brought along his mate a flooring fitter between them they were only here 2 1/2 days.( kitchen  fitter was only on site no more than 6 hours )The end panels and infill panels  were a different shade than the rest of the kitchen, all  the handles were fitted incorrectly fitter refused to fit the air vent on the  intergraged fridge/ Freezer. The height  of the wall  cabinets from the left wall  to right.wall  were 20mm different in height. The worktop fitters had to replace the quartz worktop 3 times and still arrived damaged. The manager ar the Poole store was a waste of time and very rude and refused to come to site to sort This mess out.oWe then contacted head office of magnets and the South west regional installation manager came out to view the job and he was about as much good as the rest of them (useless) In the end the kitchen had ended up being taken out by magnets just before Christmas. And after a week of hassle and numerous phone calls we finally got refund after taking it to citezens advice bureau. Magnets also request full payment upfront before they will deliver/fit your kitchen which I would strongly recommend  you don’t do this until you have checked the quality of work. We were also sold the kitchen as a solid wood kitchen but to find out the kitchen they were fitting was MDF with a very thin veneer of wood on the outside this includes doors end panels plinths the only  only bit of real wood on the somerton style kitchen was on the frame around doors. This project was started on 28th September and still ongoing throughout December until it was removed on the 17th December The end of a terrible customer service and a very unprofessional  installer who had a flooring  guy to fit a kitchen when we paid for a kitchen fitter.

“COVID, LOCKDOWN and then MAGNET”

★☆☆☆☆

written by nothingpersonal on 27/11/2020

I ordered a new kitchen for my elderly 80+ yr. old parents through one of the MAGNET authorized "contractors" who showed me all the Magnet brochures and and his five star platinum status with MAGNET and all that - he then insisted on full payment which I was suspicious of, but he maintained it was MAGNET policy. He then disappeared for four months, after we threatened legal action he came back - assembled a kitchen, in the wrong place and even put the sink 50 cm away from the electrical socket and blocked access to our fuse box and left one cabinet without a door! We are not sure if he used genuine parts and then he did a runner before finishing the job! We tried every possible recourse and I then turned to Magnet to help out and head office and branch office told me that THEIR CONTRACTOR was the client NOT MY PARENTS WHO PAID FOR THE KITCHEN!.. STEER VERY CLEAR, they just care about their contractors who they give all sorts of incentives, not the real paying clients!! The Manager said it's nothing personal, I think 5000 pounds down the drain for a shoddy kitchen and then for the supplier to recognize their contractor as the client is personal..

“Terrible experience”

★☆☆☆☆

written by MaxineAppiah on 20/10/2020

Terrible experience and would never recommend Magnet. From the start I started off with one designer then changed midway through. There was no handover so I had to explain the whole design again from scratch. Ended up with a poorly designed plan that didnt allow for height restrictions for the gas hob. If I hadn't mentioned it I would have set my cupboards alight. Had to change to an electric hob that I didnt want, pay an electrician to allow for this and compromise on cupboards/overall look of the kitchen plan to accommodate for their mistake. My kitchen fitter had to make endless adjustments to make up for the design which costs me a fortune. Signed a contract for items that either didnt arrive or didnt fit. To add insult to injury I had to return and collect the wrong items myself. Should have gone to Howdens! The manager was rude and abrasive and point blankly said he is not compensating me for their errors. Poor customer service.

“Very Disappointing”

★☆☆☆☆

written by CTWilson on 30/08/2020

We purchased a new build house in April 2019, and were initially delighted at the fact it was a Magnet kitchen to be installed, as they are a very well known company and had a great reputation in the past. Upon moving into our house we discovered the cupboard doors did not fit properly. One in particular makes a very loud squeaking noise when you open/close it and doesn't "soft close" at all. In fact there are only 2 cupboards in the whole kitchen which do. Our kitchen sink leaks and the extractor fan doesn't work properly. We spoke to the contractors who advised to contact magnet direct for warranty purposes. Upon speaking to the Magnet kitchen rep we were abruptly told that quote it is not their problem as the house has been signed over to us, and how hard can it be to fix a door?!unquote. The kitchen looks the part I cannot fault it aesthetically, however we would have much preferred a kitchen which is actually functioning and doesn't make you want to tear your hair out every time you open a cupboard. We have tried moving the hinges around, oil, everything we can think of. The problem seems to be the upper level over the cupboards is actually warped and would probably require a new kitchen to fix the problem. Absolutely terrible customer service after purchase and substandard kitchen. Do not recommend at all. Go with a lesser known company who may actually care about retaining customers. Disgraceful.

“How standards have fallen”

★☆☆☆☆

written by DavidPope on 06/08/2020

25 years ago, had a kitchen fitted by Magnet and it was a wonderful job. 12 months ago, I asked for another kitchen laid out like the original. That was my first mistake, the second was paying them the £15000+ before they started the work. The result was: - That the work surfaces were not the same as we thought we had ordered. The trim on the units in the utility room do not match the kitchen. The sink has had to be put in the wrong way around. Units are of a different size to the originals, so the kitchen layout is different - no mention of this until after we had paid. Several obvious gaps due to units being a different size (pictures available). Took our complaints to the Ombudsman who takes only written evidence from both sides none of which is under oath and the salesman we dealt with had left the company and the branch manager had moved to another branch The outcome was that Magnet offered us less than £200. Add this to the poor communication from Magnet (I am still awaiting a return call from when the fitters were fitting the kitchen and I was going to stop the work). Their offices in Darlington also manage to lose letters that I have sent them. My advice would be not to use Magnet and if you do, do not pay all monies owing upfront as you will have no comeback on them and will end up having to go to law to attain justice.
