    Good Points: Staff are polite. Nice view but you don't have to stay here to get to see it


    General comments: We stayed at The Porth Avallen Hotel in St Austell and we thought the rooms were not very big or tidy considering the price. Would not hold a function here. The wine was removed from the tables because the guest had not opened them while eating, even though they were paid for. We experienced some very upset guests including us.

    Friendly welcoming staff, wonderful views, very atmospheric feel to the place, outstanding room and view. I would recommend this Hotel the Porth Avallen Hotel to everyone and I will return with friends. Only bad thing, couldn`t stay longer.

    I thought the room was shabby, with peeling wallpaper, a stained carpet. The television was broken and there was mould in the bathroom. And it was £75 per night.

    Wifi throughout, on the coastal paths doorstep, 10 minute walk from Charlestown, staff really helpful.

    Reception staff and the barman were always very helpful in helping us plan our day!!

    Stayed in a superior double (room 3) had bay windows and stunning views over Carlyon Bay. Room was clean and tidy, as were all parts of the hotel.

    Did eat in every night, and would recommend others to do the same!!

    I advise you not to stay here. I found the management to be rude and ignorant, the rooms average and overall the hotel represents extremely poor value.

    On our return home, the hotel wrote to us to say that we'd smoked in our room and that they were charging £60 to my credit card. We absolutely, 100% did not smoke in the room, but the hotel manager ignores any attempt to communicate with me, so I'm going to have to take them to Court to get my money back.

    Needless to say, I won't ret ...

    We have just spent two nights at the Porth Avallen Hotel in St Austell and were extremely disappointed with the standard of accommodation provided.

    We arrived to find that our bathroom had not been cleaned and was filthy. The toilet seat was awful, the surfaces were thick with dust and the bath had hairs around it. We complained and the receptionist reluctantly cleaned it for us.

    The next day we tried to have a shower only to find that there was no hot water. We called reception to get it ...
