My husband booked a meal for my 30th birthday and I was not disappointed. We both had the tasting menu and each course was excellent. The staff were friendly and professional throughout our visit. OK, the meal was not cheap but considering what a 6 course meal with bread, wine, coffee and petit-fours would cost in a bog-standard chain restaurant it was certainly worth it. For those complaining the food was pretentious whilst ordering fish & chips in a restaurant like this, well I think they really need to take a look at themselves...

Over-priced and pretentious. Please do not waste your time and money here. I had fish and chips (I was given my own ketchup bottle!). Not very good - get much much better for a quarter of the price in Hanburys in Torquay.- Read Guest's review (42 words)

What more can I say... other than this was the most hyped restaurant I have ever been too. Rick Stein should be renamed Rick Sting, as this is what this experience has been. If i did not love Kew Grill so much this would have really put me off celeb restauants, as he is obviously milking his name. The food was greasy, ridiculously small (6 chips !!) and shabby accomodation. For the amount they are asking you would naturally assume Hotel du Vin standards but our room was far from it. The bathroo ...- Read Guest's review (131 words)

We went to the Seafood Restaurant takeaway in Padstow on Tuesday the 30th june 2009,ordered haddock and chips x4. All had bones in, definitely not fresh fish. Batter was soggy and very oily. Would not recommend to any cat. When i complained they just looked at each other????.- Read neilavo62's review (56 words)

We visited Rick Stein's Seafood restaurant on the 30/08/08 in celebration of our 40th wedding anniversary, we were a party of 5 including our 6 year old granddaughter, we had a fantastic meal, nothing was too much trouble for the staff. Everything was explained throughout the meal, i.e. the wait for all the meals to be ready at once, so that everyone could eat at the same time. My granddaughter thoroughly enjoyed her Fruit de Mare, we all enjoyed the experience and would thoroughly recommend thi ...- Read milliesnannan's review (115 words)

Overall I would not recommend this restaurant, if Rick kept a closer eye on it perhaps he could bring the standard back up to its best but until he does I wont go again. Bitterly disappointed, spoilt what should have been a nice meal and afternoon. I think staff training should seriously be looked at, employing people who know what they're talking about would be high on the list- Read Guest's review (311 words)

At The Seafood Restaurant I felt that the apparent lack of professional service really took away from what could have been a very enjoyable evening. It seemed quite obvious to me that we had very young students trying to do something that takes more than a bit of training.- Read Guest's review (93 words)

We arrived at the agreed time and were shown straight to our table, the restaurant was busy but ordered and the staff efficient and friendly, we were offered a drinks menu and bread was brought to the table and explained to us, as mentioned I have never been that enamoured with sea food but was determined to try something although there was a non sea food option on each part of the menu. (starters and mains) I had the non sea food starter of papardelle with spinach, ricotta and basil, which was ...- Read mrscha's review (518 words)

The Seafood Restaurant - The quality of the little amount of food that was served was very good but, considering the prices, the hype and the accommodation costs, everything else left me feeling very disappointed and ripped off. I think you should experience the Seafood Restaurant in Padstow once, but only once, and take my advice: stay at a B&B in one of the nearby picturesque villages.- Read GeoffreyThaw's review (164 words)

Our reservation to celebrate my 60th birthday was booked by my son at least six months in advance. However, the reservation desk still managed to get the day wrong and insisted that we sit at a table which we had not asked for. Due to more problems not expected at this class of restaurant, we decided to cancel our booking which was very disappointing as we had travelled a long way to be together for my special birthday meal. I feel that the majority of staff at the restaurant and on the recep ...- Read fenney's review (209 words)

The Seafood Restaurant of Rick Stein in Padstow is a noisy, bright restaurant with no atmosphere. The food was very ordinary and even paying over £30 for lobster didn't guarantee a good meal. Frankly the staff seemed like they couldn't care less, don't go there for a relaxing or gastronomic experience.- Read jlamond's review (62 words)

After so much hype my wife and I booked and dined at the famous seafood restaurant. As a couple who love their food and have eaten in many a Michelin star restaurant I found this whole experience from start to finish. The staff were poorly trained and had no idea. (Every one of our courses was served by a different waiter) The food was something that I could cook up myself and had NO imagination. The lighting was very bright. All in all I would not rate this restaurant. There was no value for mo ...- Read EAS's review (128 words)

My wife and I had a Saturday afternoon lunch at Rick Stein Seafood Restaurant. We had to book well in advance to get a seat, and other people were turned away not having booked. Nice surroundings, but no more than average service.
Food...
Starter: I had Red mullet, which was not great. The fish could have been a lot fresher, and it seemed very expensive at £13. My wife had Sushi which she enjoyed.
Main course: I had fish and chips with mushy peas. I have had a lot better from a chi ...- Read SimonB's review (252 words and 1 comment)
