Good Points: More like a village with the 4-6 apartment blocks scattered around the beautifully avenued paths. The staff were so courteous and helpful, particularly the reception staff although it's hard to differentiate between any group from the waitresses to the cleaners. My son lost his key for which 30 Euro had to be handed over for a replacement. However, the money was returned at checking out as a goodwill jesture - they didn't have to do that. The buffet food is provided in two of the main restaurants and is pretty good and with three additional specialty restaurants the choice generous. The location of the hotel, about 4km outside Hersonnissos, is away from the commercialism of the town although it is within easy reach by bus.

Bad Points: Weatherwise, we chose a bad week (19-26 Oct 2008). With the mountains behind and a NW wind, clouds formed off the sea so we only got sporadic sunshine. Not the case the week before nor the week after having watched the temperatures before and since.Buffet food gets boring. Having been on a top rate cruise a couple of months before the odd occasion we used the buffet then it also seemed boring. A meal becomes 'fill your plate, eat up and go' so make use of the specialty restaurants but you HAVE to book as soon as you get there.The rooms are basic and the design of the single beds prevent you from making it into a comfortable double. I slept really well in a firm single bed and the shutters were used to cut out all light - the late night partygoers could sleep in no doubt!

General comments: I liked the hotel with its spacial grounds and numerous (7) swimming pools. The youngsters of other families were given a great deal of attention by the animation staff, who also worked very hard in producing evening open-air stage shows, which both adults and children seemed to enjoy - it's not Broadway though so take it as it comes with a cocktail or two in hand!Then to the drinks. They're not branded drinks, as another reviewer has stated, but they do go down well. Having not been All Inclusive before, I was surprised by the choice of drinks available. Nobody seemed to go stupid but this was helped by the lower alcohol contents of the drinks. However, I can vouch that the Ouzo is pretty potent - so much so I went dry for the next couple of days. In the restaurant you just help yourself to bottles of wine from a chilled cabinet. It's a locally produce and not fine wine but the white and rose were OK although the red reminded me of home brew. Overall, I've scored the hotel 8/10. I can only really knock it back for the rooms needing some renovation. If you have young children you might even score it 9/10.Would I go back? No, which is not a reflection on the hotel but Crete itself. It's not your typical picturesque Greek island, there's just too much 'Irish Pub' stuff around the Hersonissos area.
Before I sign off, thanks to the excellent Thomson's rep we found a really good karting track just near the airport in Heraklion. 270cc karts and a 800m track at just 16Euro for 20 minutes. Have fun.

Good food, plenty of it, all branded drinks in the all inclusive. Staff very friendly, children's club very good no need to go of site as there is so much to do all day and night. Just had two weeks at this hotel Nana Beach and could not find one thing wrong with this hotel been all a lot of holidays but find this one hard to beat. No bad points at all
