It's about time Sane Man got a release, and with extended footage cut from the original as Bill Hicks was a comedy genius and what material we have left should be put out there as it was originally delivered and intended.
First off, this DVD is not for the easily offended or the faint-hearted. Hicks starts out mocking Southerners, small towns and people who don't read. He then moves on to non-smokers, the music industry, celebrity, and, well pretty much everything else that annoys him. His remarks on why drugs should be legalised - "Keith Richards, it hasn't done him any harm!" - are some of the funniest things I have ever heard.
He is, however, sexually explicit, and very graphic and has a great command of a wide range of obscenities. His humour, however, although it is often very foul-mouthed, springs from a high level of intelligence and a great deal of well-observed problems with the state of the world, of politics, of culture and of people's attitudes.
I love Bill Hicks. I think he was a ground-breaking comedian whose contribution is only now starting to be properly realised and I wholeheartedly recommend this DVD to everyone.
