“Great family game console”

Written on: 02/07/2012 by rowellm (3 reviews written)

I've had my Wii for about a year and absolutely love it! I have a great time playing the family friendly Mario games, while my wife loves using the Wii to connect to netflix. We have definitely gotten our money out of this purchase and I would recommend it to anyone who just wants a good time. I would not recommend this product to hardcore gamers, but anyone can have fun with the Wii. (read more)

Terrible terrible graphics. Lousy range of games. All it is is entertainment for 6 year olds not adults. Wii fit is good at first but becomes very boring. Worst game console to buy, get a playstation 3! PS3's are the best gaming consoles at this moment in time! The graphics for the ps3 are incredible and you get a blue ray player with it! (read more)

Nintendo's brilliant attemp at anew console for the ever expanding gaming world this time nintendo have chosen to give a new way of playing and they done this in an incredible way. There is a huge range of immersive and exciting games to choose from. I have nearly 25 games and counting every one has been incredible. I would suggest buying first party games (games from nintendo)as 90% of the best games in my opinion are first party. These are my favourite: animal crossing lgttc, super smash... (read more)

I must say the Nintendo Wii was a great idea when it came out - a sort of games console for the non-games market. I had mainly sports games on it and found it thoroughly enjoyable. Unlike other games consoles I've had (ps2, megadrive etc) I dont think Ive ever played it on my own - its a very socialable games consoles and I only used to get it out when friends came round.

That's the good stuff.

The bad points are that it doesnt work that well any more! The handsets dont connect very... (read more)

The Nintendo Wii is a fantastic and fun gaming console, for all the family! The range of games suit everyone's needs, from the more experienced serious gamer, to the occasional user who wants to have a bit of fun.

What i particularly like about the Wii is the interactivity you have with the games. Whether you're playing tennis with a friend, shooting an enemy with the gun, or rocking to some great songs with a bunch of mates, the accessories included with most games actually make you... (read more)

We purchased a Wii and Wii Fit for our children (10, 12 & 15 yrs old) as a Christmas gift... about 15 hours of use later, the console died. I have been reading more and more about the Wii console having "issues" and I wonder how it is that they were able to charge so much for something that, literally, worked for only 15 hours of use?!!! I disagree with this review because it says it has low memory. The Nintendo Wii has in-buillt memory and can get a memory card for really cheap prices. I had my wii since may 07 and haven't even used the inbuilt memory let alone starting my memory card. Also the fun factor, as I said I had since may 07 and I have loved every minute of it. Also the poor graphics vary on different games and surprisingly nothing has been said about the good points. This Wii will stand up to the ps3 and the xbox360 and anything else it is good as in my opinion.

This is a truly revolutionary console. Yes I know the graphics looks pathetic against the PS3/XBOX 360, but they will allow the couch potatoes to get fatter and fatter. The Wii uses motion sensors in the control units, giving a far greater degree of control. You no longer have to remember how to do that combo move, instead just do it!

At a time when sales of LCD and Plasma screens are huge why has Nintendo dropped out of the race? Why have you given the wii 4/10 for value for money? Compared to the 360 and PS3 it is cheap. £180 for the whole package and a game and what the PS3 is £420 alone and the Xbox isn't far of that.

Wlmcdonough's Response to wlmcdonough's Review

Written on: 04/04/2007

I’ll explain the 4 out of 10. I have a DreamCast and still play it, along with an old Xbox and GameCube. The difference between the graphics on the DreamCast and Wii should be huge, they aren’t. It is actually a lower spec than an old XBox and probably an old Playstation (and how much can you pick them up for?). Just take a look at the memory, CPU and graphics (you'll have to dig around because Nintendo wouldn't release them), having invested in a HD TV I'm just bemused that Nintendo decided not to support it. OK so the game quality and unique play still makes it a gem, but would you be happy playing your games in black & white (I have one of the TVs in the loft somewhere), I'd guess not. Just 720p and I'd have been happy. Remove the control pads with the point at the screen wizardry and you almost have a GameCube (again how much are these today?). I haven't got a Playstation3 yet, but saw a demo of a game playing on one in Dixons, blown away. Come end of Jan and with a bit of luck I'll get one. You can't compare the Wii with a 360 or a PS3. And then there are the batteries, come on all of us are raiding our remotes to power the controllers?!?! Even though I have a charger and some top rechargeable batteries. Why oh why did they not put decent batteries in them and let them charge from the console?? I know you can buy an add-on, another expense... Don't get me wrong, get a bunch of drunken Alpha males together on a Friday after a drink plus curry and it's great, but it could have been magnificent.

Rabbit Banger's Response to wlmcdonough's Review

Written on: 05/04/2007

Thanks wlmcdonough you do have some fair points. But the one about the batteries in the wiimote can be resolved. Buy a unigross 1hour charger and pop some 2300 or 2500mah batteries in it, they will give you about 5-10 hours play time depending on usage. And who says black and white games are not fun? nintendo's wii shop allows you to download and play your favourite past Nintendo games ,from the old consoles; such as super mario 64 and the old zeldas. Furthermore, you can pick up all the old gamecube games as the wii will play them. Microsoft and Sony can't compete with the brilliant nintendo heros: mario, luigi, yoshi, samus, Link, etc.

I also have a 360 but am thinking about getting a PS3, some say that the PS3's detail isn't as good as the 360's. But you really need a HDTV for these two consoles and not for the wii. HDTVs are really expensive and some people cannot afford them right now, so thats why Nintendo made the wii for a standard TV not a HDTV.
