I would not HCI to anyone. I have had travel insurance with them for two years and I have made one claim, which was approved for payment on 7 February 2013. The payment has still not arrived and HCI only responds when I contact them. I have been in contact with six different people, all making promises to expedite the payment and all totally ineffectual. I spent £280 on an annual policy to head out backpacking. Turns out the policy only covers you up to 90 days each trip. Who's fault that is I'm not sure - I should have perhaps made sure myself. Anyway... when it came to claiming it was a nightmare. They only operate 9-5 GMT so it's a nightmare overseas. In December 2010 we engaged with HealthCare International (UK) from the Pacific where we resided for a year, to buy International Expatriate Insurance. My husband and I have had HCI for 4 years. I find them to be a great company. When you call the office, everyone is very polite, professional and caring. We have had several small claims, and one for a major surgery. All have been handled perfectly and in a very timely manner. When you call the company, you can always reach someone that can help you. Another wonderful thing about this company is, you can create your own group and get great discounts. You do not have to be in a company to get group discounts.

This company delays payments, or tries to find ways of avoiding payments instead of paying claims. They will also use their own discretion as to what they consider is "usual and customary" costs of treatment, which are way below the actual costs of real treatment in that particular country. The brochure says they will pay out claims within 7-10 working days. After 2 months and many emails and calls, I am still awaiting reimbursement of my claim. I have used HCI for 3 years now and have made several claims, for treatment, eyeglasses, dental. Although they are a little slow, and the form is not the easiest to fill in I find them an excellent company. Compared to other insurance companies, their benefits are generous, especially the amount of services offered which do not have an excess policy. I do wish that they would provide more than 3 forms in each package, however I have been sent the forms which I can simply download. (read more)

How can you complain about premiums being taken when you state yourself that you believe HCI had mistakenly cancelled you policy?
You have contradicted yourself.
And should you not confirm that you want to cancel you policy by letter or email, that is standard practice.
I think you might be looking to get you premiums back on the basis of a small email error.
