Good Points: On the good side:Free internet downstairs in the lobby/bar area in most places.Great restaurant service - professional, pleasant servers. Breakfast buffet can double as a lunch/picnic option. No one looks twice if you walk out with sandwiches.Great coffee.Very nice, clean, efficient, smart design in the rooms and bathrooms - very nice.

Bad Points: 1) Your internet costs - it varies country to country, so check. In Lisbon, where we paid 59 euro for a night, the WIFI cost 3 euro an hour (they have no competition among internet servers there; here in Barcelona, we pay 5 euros for 24 hrs., 2) the rooms are pretty tight (small) - and the beds are hard. They are foam rubber mattresses 3-4" thick on pressboard platforms on tubular legs. I have woken up in pain every single morning after sleeping in an IBIS. For a contrasting view, my husband has had no trouble at all and has slept very well. 3) These hotels offer good prices in expensive cities because they are located pretty well outside the city centers. There is always a trek to public transportation.

General comments: We've stayed in the IBIS in Lisbon, Portugal and two in Barcelona, Spain. They were all a 'good deal' compared to other hotels; however there are significant differences. They offer a free room if they can't solve your problem in 15 minutes or less. The fact that they couldn't check people in quickly, or took more than 10 minutes just for us to be able to get an internet card...was not considered a problem. When we complained, the girl at reception said, "That is not a problem. It's just that we're understaffed." hahaha Makes you wonder what a problem is.All in all, the thing that is the biggest problem for me is the hard beds and the pain I experience in the mornings. Other than that, I recommend the chain as a good deal for the money if you're willing to walk a little for transportation.

I have stayed in two Ibis hotels; one in Paris, and last weekend, the one at West Thurlow near Lakeside. It was difficult to find, as it is in a retail park, and I resorted to ringing the hotel twice for instructions, as there seemed to be more roundabouts than in Milton Keynes, which is saying something!

The hotel was very clean, and the reception staff were helpful. They even turned over the TV in the bar so my husband could watch his precious Tottenham play Arsenal! The rooms are clea ...
