I bought my smk xs79 from a local Surplus International I was replacing my old BSA Meteor with a newer gun. I bought the xs79 and bought a 4x32 scope and silencer for Rabbit shooting. The gun was very well sighted in and last year i had kept the rabbit population down a bit but I had only shot around 800 or so pellets(Milbro .22 SELECT).and the gun started loosing gas through a small hole on top off the barrel. I tried replacing the 88g bottle with another but it leaked all out through the same… Read Full Review

Let's be honest here. These rifles are rough diamonds that need some work on them. Out of the box they will do some 8ft/lbs on average but can be brought up to power with a little work - WITH CARE and a chrono. NEVER attempt to tune a rifle without a chrono. If you go over 12ft/lbs you are likely to find yourself a guest at HMP hotels and your rifle junked! The XS/QB79 can be very expensive to run using 88g Airsource type CO2 cartridges but it is possible to fit a 7oz paintball bottle to… Read Full Review

i recently bought an xs79 for my son as i used to have an xs78 a few years ago. it cost me less than a hundred quid new and was even better than my old xs78. i got him a 3-9x40 scope for under thirty notes. the stock is much too long for him at the moment so i will have to chop it down for him. despite this though he can still hit the centre of a playing card at 30 yards. brilliant gun for the money. check out his videos to see for yourself.

i have had this gun for about five months. it is a very good gun but theres one problem you can't tell when the co2 has run out. you can fire about 60 shots the way you can tell its run out is that it gets weaker and quieter.
overall i would recommend to anyone that doesn't want to spend hundreds of pounds. i brought mine for 86.95 pounds and thought that to be quiete cheap… Read Full Review

I bought my XS79 from my local dealer for about £100 with roughly £60 of extra stuff including a really decent scope, mounts, extra CO2 and wasp pellets.
This is my first air rifle so i cannot really compare it to other rifles, however i was VERY impressed, i expected an in-accurate glorified BB gun for £100 to be honest however i was pleasantly suprised.
The rifle is EXTREMELY accurate, i managed to annihilate a vodka bottle in one shot from about 20 meters away with the first shot i ever… Read Full Review

I just picked this SMK XS79 rifle up today expecting a utilitarian weapon with paint applied by a monkey and machining done by a man who hasn't had the use of his eyes for quite some time now. Do not buy a B2 rifle and expect the rest of the smk range to be like that. This is in a different league! The action is smooth (ish), the trigger beds in surprisingly quickly, and it sits very well at the shoulder. It is very well shaped and sized for a medium sized person (5' 9"), although the cheek… Read Full Review

It's a very good rifle, it's small, light, powerful, very accurate, and the co2 canasters last surprisingly long, been hunting three times with the only one and still hasn't run out.
have had no problems taking down rabbits, pigeons, and pheasants even at 70 yards. Bolt action, user friendly, good rifle for beginners. No bad points about this rifle, (in my opinion)… Read Full Review

Excellent value for the money , good and accurate as it is but with only a little work can be truly excellent . If you are reasonably handy you can take the workings out of the stock and Tidy it up . I would heartily recommend the upgrade from T R Robb , especially the trigger kit , it's easy to follow the DVD and the improvement it truly excellent . I have also modified the stock to fit me , if I can work out how to upload the photographs I will do so as it is very basic joinery but has made a… Read Full Review

These comments are for the .22 version.
Overall a rather good little rifle. The first one I bought leaked badly at the connector valve O-rings and at the main seal. I took it back and the exchange one was fine. I noticed that the replacement had a larger, brass connector valve fitted. The leaking gun had a smaller aluminium one; perhaps a mod to cure a known problem?
The gun holds it's pressure. I find it next to impossible to fire off in a single session the whole 250 shots that the large… Read Full Review

I've had my gun about 4 months now. I've done a lot of mods to it including changing the gas source to a 9 ounce paintball bottle from the states. I've fitted a tuning kit from tr robb airgun specialist (look on Google). I have also had the barrel shortened by 4 inches and the stock by 2 inches. I've got a Tasco 3-9 x40 scope on it along with the SMK silencer its amazing. I just wish they made a silencer for it, even if it was a home made one I'd use it… Read Full Review

This rifle is accurate, about as accurate as you will ever get for a rifle for this price range (Brand New). Very cheap, great bargain. I have used this rifle for plinking a lot with various pellets. Some were in-accurate but the majority were very satisfying. At 20 yards, you will get a good grouping of around 1". I found that Bisley Magnums were good. DO NOT use the iron sights, they are sh**. Buy a scope for it, you will be much more satisfied, even with the little added weight. I've used… Read Full Review

This is my first co2 gun and i would recommend it to all, especially beginners in co2 guns. I was using some Milbro jet pellets with the gun at first, and the accuracy wasn't that great, they were going all over the place. I was advised by SMK to use MILBRO SELLECT pellets, as they had the best results in the tests. So i bought a tin, and had a go, i thought they might help a bit, but i didn't expect much difference to be honest. But i was amazed with the results. The where all hitting the red… Read Full Review

I've got the .22 version.
As good as other budget rifles twice the price, a great intro to running and tuning a CO2 or pre-charged rifle. Easy to tune up to the limit (and beyond with a FAC, though i'm told internal seals don't manage the extra strain very well). Not very powerful out of the box, and the trigger and bolt lever are stiff, but all these things are easily sorted, look at the other reviews for details, or go to TRobb to buy the parts in a kit.
What's not so easy to sort is the… Read Full Review

The first thig I did was to read and understand the very brief handbook as I am new to CO2 guns.
I have had the SMK XS79 rifle for a short while now and fired about 800 rounds. I fitted it with a Webley pro-system silencer, PRO 4 - Medium Height-2 piece mount-Double Screw and a Hawke Sport HD MAP 6* 40 scope. Yes the accessories cost more than the gun but I do want to hit the target quietly.
First I spent 2 hours polishing the stock with very fine wire wool and oil (linseed in ths case, all I… Read Full Review

I bought this SMK XS79 rifle for less than sixty quid as a project, just to see what I could do with it.
It runs off the 88g Airsource capsule and is reckoned to give about 200 shots.
The finish is perfectly acceptable and the action works well if not a little stiff, I reckon it will improve with use.
One thing I am not too impressed with, is the stock, the pistol grip is almost horizontal and makes reaching the trigger uncomfortable, I am planning to get a target stock from SMK (I have seen… Read Full Review
