Cheap car, Vauxhall Vectra 2001 model b, DTI LS. Picked it up with 2 former owners, in need of a good clean, 76,000 fully serviced miles verified by local garage, for a bag of sand, £1000 smackers for a car that does 50mpg, gets to 60 in roughly 12 seconds, has aircon, cd, lumbar support on both seats, side airbags, steel wheels.

Plain interior, lots of common switches to Saab 900, supportive seats, comfortable on 500 mile runs. Engine noisy at lower speeds, quiet at national speed limits and motorway speeds though!

Does not seem to eat oil and common enough in breakers yards to make running cost effective. Lighter on steering and foot controls than a 1.8 litre CDX Astra. Would buy another.

Bought vauxhall vectra 2ltr diesel 2 months ago £1,200 - scraping it today Less than 70,000 miles and fuel pump gone. Cheapest repair £1050 - part £800 alone plus special tools needed. Stay well clear. Good bit - full size spare but thats it.

I will never go for another Vauxhall Vectra 2.0 DTi LS again. Made of cheap part, very unrelaible, problem after the other.

I have owned a 2001 Vectra dti since 3 yrs ago. I bought it at 33000 miles. Now done 120000. I am a taxi driver. Not been too bad but had nightmare engine probs. including poor starting, turbo loss, engine management light on and off with a mind of its own. Time off work again and again. £ £later unsure of the underlying problem...

Bought a 2.0 dti W Reg for 1200 last month, month later fuel pump failed. I changed the leak off pipes then the valve seals before the pump finally packed up. The dealership quoted me £2000 to fix, independent garage quoted me £1300, all for a new fuel pump. My advice is stay away for a diesel of the era (1998-2002).

My car has only done 61000 miles with full service history - it has cost me so much money in the 3 months of ownership.
I have only ever managed to get 38 mpg max, most of the time it has been 34mpg, I have a Passat 1.8 Turbo and that does 32mpg.
The car is very poor quality, everything feels old and is very noisy.
I have had to have front and rear anti-roll bar bushes, new exhaust.
My local Vauxhall dealer does not answer the phone when service is asked for, I took the car in and they said ...

I've had my Vectra for 11 months now. Beware if fuel pump goes, mine went and cost £1400 to repair!

Cut out due to faulty crankshaft Position Sensor (took 10 days to fix)
Cut out due to faulty fuel pump (another 4 days in the garage)
Performance severely constrained by engine management systems due to Mass Air Flow Meter fault. Had to wait a week for part to arrive before garage could fix it.
Cruise control would not work, whilst Engine Management Light was illuminated.

Stay well away from the diesel models as now that I have done some research, I have found that an awful lot of the faults listed above are a common problem with most of the Vectras. Being a diesel engineer I have managed to narrow down the poor starting of my Vauxhall Vectra 2.0 DTi LS to fuel starvation, the reason being is that the fuel pump is driven by the crank on the engine and it seems that every time I try for a start, after the car has been stood for 9 hours or so, it has to prime the ...

I bought the Vauxhall Vectra 2.0 DTi LS in 1998 with 30,000 miles on the clock for £8,500. It now has 120,000 miles on the clock and looking to sell for around £900-1200.

In that time not much has gone wrong, the only major thing was the radiator which cost about £100 to replace.

The car has been serviced every 10,000 miles and runs very well, the fuel economy is amazing, especially for the age. I am sure I can get about 60 mpg if not more. Therefore I would recommen ...

I brought my 1998 Vectra DTi two years ago for about 3k, this was a bit more than most Vectra's of the same age were going for but it had decent mileage for age and type of car (only 70k) and was a diesel, I also got a years warranty thrown in which I hoped I wouldn't need! I wanted a diesel for all the obvious reasons, and for some reason at the time liked the looks of the Vectra.

In the two years I have owned mine the following has happened:
    - Turbo blew up (some warning but not enough to ...
