“2000 x Reg Vauxhall Vectra 2.0 DTI CLub 5Dr Hatchback...”

Written on: 29/09/2011 by chance10 (1 review written)

Bought the car in April 2010, has had 4 former keepers, I have only had to have crank sensor replaced £100, solenoid motor on fuel flap lock £5+ Its superb on fuel . I reckon it cost me 6p a mile. It had 110,000mls on clock genuine mileage and full service history. The last 2 mots it sailed through. The previous owners had all injector seals replaced, and front coil springs. A car is only as good as its looked after servicing but mainly oil changes regular and filters , oh and better… Read Full Review

Bought a R reg 1998 2.0cc 16valve LS DTI Vectra a year ago, for £420. should never have bought it, as it had the engine managment light on. I then drove it home, fantastic on fuel even now with the fuel prices so high. Bought a good 2nd hand air flow sencor, that made a little diffrence but still the ligh was on. so again my micanic friend came down with his diognostic's matchine and said your EGR valve has gone, I looked a price's on the internet £110. so I have driven it wwith out replacing… Read Full Review

I have a yr 2000 2.0 Di LS model. Bought at 163,000 miles, now at 228,000 !! From early on realised prob. My mechanic diagnosed EGR valve and I've not changed it......yet!. Yes very slow on pick up. Agree good cruiser & still good mpg. Amazingly reliable car, has never let me down in 5 yrs. And I've NEVER serviced it!! I was supposed to have changed it 2yrs ago at 200k miles but hey ho, it still rolls on! Body looking a bit shabby now but mechanically still great (apart from EGR of course!). Would have another tho! Would be nice to know if Vectra 2.0 DTi LS owner changed their EGR valve & what was result?

Great car. Bought in 2000 for 8k, used as family car, and now commuter car (80 miles daily). 175k on the clock, just passed mot again.
Repairs: Injector seals (they do exist) cures the turnover for ten minutes prior to engine starting scenario. about six years ago.
EGR valve. Needed cleaning.
Fuel tank (old age) two months ago.
Crankshaft sensor. Just been replaced.
Otherwise, standard mot stuff, brake pipes, the odd suspension bush, a couple of springs.
Nothing I wouldn't expect for the age… Read Full Review

If i was to recommend this car to a friend i would have to hate them. This car has been the thorn in my side for the duration of my driving experience. Passed my test in early 2008 i've only had the Vectra B 2.0 DTI.. only reason for not selling is that i need it for work and no-one else drives in my family which mean i'll not have a car until i buy a new one, and the fact that they are going for buttons these days doesnt help with changing cars.

First off the list of problems ive had to… Read Full Review

Written on: 06/09/2009

Cheap car, Vauxhall Vectra 2001 model b, DTI LS. Picked it up with 2 former owners, in need of a good clean, 76,000 fully serviced miles verified by local garage, for a bag of sand, £1000 smackers for a car that does 50mpg, gets to 60 in roughly 12 seconds, has aircon, cd, lumbar support on both seats, side airbags, steel wheels.

Plain interior, lots of common switches to Saab 900, supportive seats, comfortable on 500 mile runs. Engine noisy at lower speeds, quiet at national speed limits and… Read Full Review

Sorry but 99% of fault codes that come back as faulty fuel pump are down to crank sensor. Think you may have scrapped a car for the sake of £30

I own a 2.0 Di LS yr 2000. Was told by my a Vauxhall dealer after diagnostics that fuel pump could be on way out. That was at about 165,000 4.5yrs ago. I was told of horrendous prices for pumps (inc £2k by Vauxhall!!) so kept going. Now on 228,000 & still going strong!! Looks like could be something else after all.

Bought a 2.0 dti W Reg for 1200 last month, month later fuel pump failed. I changed the leak off pipes then the valve seals before the pump finally packed up. The dealership quoted me £2000 to fix, independent garage quoted me £1300, all for a new fuel pump. My advice is stay away for a diesel of the era (1998-2002)… Read Full Review

“My car has only done 61000 miles with full service...”

Written on: 04/06/2007 by lee900cbr (1 review written)

My car has only done 61000 miles with full service history - it has cost me so much money in the 3 months of ownership.
I have only ever managed to get 38 mpg max, most of the time it has been 34mpg, I have a Passat 1.8 Turbo and that does 32mpg.
The car is very poor quality, everything feels old and is very noisy.
I have had to have front and rear anti-roll bar bushes, new exhaust.
My local Vauxhall dealer does not answer the phone when service is asked for, I took the car in and they said… Read Full Review

Written on: 27/09/2006 by trevban (1 review written)

Stay well away from the diesel models as now that I have done some research, I have found that an awful lot of the faults listed above are a common problem with most of the Vectras. Being a diesel engineer I have managed to narrow down the poor starting of my Vauxhall Vectra 2.0 DTi LS to fuel starvation, the reason being is that the fuel pump is driven by the crank on the engine and it seems that every time I try for a start, after the car has been stood for 9 hours or so, it has to prime the… Read Full Review

Written on: 07/08/2006 by borat101 (1 review written)

I bought the Vauxhall Vectra 2.0 DTi LS in 1998 with 30,000 miles on the clock for £8,500. It now has 120,000 miles on the clock and looking to sell for around £900-1200. In that time not much has gone wrong, the only major thing was the radiator which cost about £100 to replace. The car has been serviced every 10,000 miles and runs very well, the fuel economy is amazing, especially for the age. I am sure I can get about 60 mpg if not more. Therefore I would recommend this car because of… Read Full Review

Written on: 19/04/2006 by MansfieldMan (1 review written)

I brought my 1998 Vectra DTi two years ago for about 3k, this was a bit more than most Vectra's of the same age were going for but it had decent mileage for age and type of car (only 70k) and was a diesel, I also got a years warranty thrown in which I hoped I wouldn't need! I wanted a diesel for all the obvious reasons, and for some reason at the time liked the looks of the Vectra.

In the two years I have owned mine the following has happened:
- Turbo blew up (some warning but not enough to do… Read Full Review

Written on: 11/01/2008

I second you with the rudeness of the Vauxhal dealer network, my local, (PNG, Enfield) wanted £65 booking-in fee before a service was even carried out. I had an 03-plate (2003) Vectra DTi hatch. When the likes of Toyota and Ford were rolling out Common-Rail units to their cars, and VW had their successful Pumpe Dusse system, I was disappointed to see my DTI had the same engine from 1998...:(

Same performance, they claim the top speed is 121mph, but by the time you get to 105 you're scared to push it any more because of the din!!! I've been on quieter buses...

My car had the misfortune of a beige interior, making it a magnet for dirt. Beige works in prestige cars like Bentlys, but a Vectra?! So apart from hundreds on valet bills, and over the counter upholstery cleaning products from Halfords, I've spent out on new lights, (burnt out), new suspension arms, new windscreen wiper assembly, EGR Valve, Suction pipes, Electric Window switches, rear-LED brake light, spigot rings for Alloy wheels (don't ask...), all new brake disks (these warp very quickly)...

The car looks good, but when you start the engine, you get lots of quizzical looks from your passengers (I was a minicab driver)... that and the thick clouds of soot upon startup... I did for a short while get the Vectra Exclusiv (poverty-spec) CDTi 150, which had a quieter engine, but even the basics of the LS were missed out...

The biggest downer you will encounter is that no one wants to buy it off you when you look to sell it, as they are as common as muck... Go on, do a search for 'Vectra' in AutoTrader and see how many cars it finds...

It was spacious, the boot was great, I hated that space-saver wheel they gave you. My car had a peculiar tracking fault as well. Vauxhall just shrugged their shoulders, and didn't want to know as the car was out of warranty. Want to turn right at a junction? Just let go of the wheel...

I went and bought a Passat TDi in the end, a true diesel. Vauxhall do great petrol cars, but their diesel technology has yet to catch up, even their common-rail units are still quite loud.

If you have low self-esteem and lots of money for repairs, this is the ideal car for you. If you want to travel in comfort with a reliable diesel engine, coupled with performance, look for anything else...
