I bought my first Euro steam iron at the fair about 8 years ago. On the average I used this iron 5 times a week. The only maintenance needed was when I dropped it and had to replace a broken plastic piece. About the last year or so I noticed more and more steam continually coming out of the plate, so the other day I called Redfern and the lady told me that I should clean it. She also asked if I had been following the directions. Well, I have to admit, the directions and CD were still in... (read more)

My friends and I (all 3 of us quilters) saw this iron demoed at a show and thought it was a great find. Now, a little more than a year later, we all wish we had our money back. This iron sputters and all of us are concerned about how hot the handle gets. That can't be safe. I feel like I flushed $200 down the drain so will do all I can to save others some money and possible burns. Do NOT buy this iron! (read more)

Hi, I am not a quilter, however, I am a man who like his cloths looking very good. I loved my iron until mine did the same thing. Mine burned my hand and I called customer service. Google the number or look on the paper work that came with the iron. The same lady always answers the phone. Tell her you feel they should not charge you for the fix due to the danger of the iron burning your hand. When you spend this kind of money on an iron it should last longer than a $24.99 unit from Wally World. Be stern and don't give up. They finally give you an RA# and you'll have to mail it in to the company. Chances are they'll send you a new unit. You will have to pay $19.00 for shipping. I would even tell them you will get a lawyer to represent you and your friends. If you send it in for repairs it will cost you over $75.00 for repairs plus shipping.
You have to admit its great at what it does, However, this should NOT happen. Hey, I even tell them you and your friends will boycott the next quilters convention out side to sour business for them inside. Is still think this unit needs a UL approval.
GOOD LUCK :)

I am a man and I iron my cloths and the families cloths too. When I saw this iron I felt like I owed it to myself to spend the money. Our iron leaks steam through the handle. It burned my hand. What's up! I call the 800 # all they say is its not in warranty and to mail it back in for repair. Ask about how much to repair and they will not say. I love the iron. But, its got to work longer than a year for the money.

If you have had the unit for under a year it is still under warranty and all you have to pay is the shipping both ways. That is easy.
I don't know why you would expect to get the repair cost over the phone, they would need to see and test your iron in order to know what repairs to do. They called me 2 days after receiving my iron, gave me the repair cost, I paid and it was shipped back. In all it was done in 7 business days.

No, I had the unit for over 1.5 years.
The Iron had a malfunction and the tube that carries the steam to the plate of the iron broke and carried the full blast of steam through the inside of the unit and come out the handle and burned my hand.
I sent the iron in to the company and they agreed that this is a danger and replaced the unit promptly.
I am very satisfied. Now I have to write a response to everyone.
thanks,

This is a reply to my comment on my Iron that burned my hand.
I call the company and they gave me an RA# to mail the unit back to them to check it out.
When they received the unit they call me promptly. The units tube that carries the steam to the hot plate broke and caused the steam to travel through the unit and out the handle. They said they would replace the unit with a new one. I got the new unit in the mail in about 5 days. They did charge me 19.00 for the shipping. The customer rep was very nice and included a few O ring gaskets for the new unit.
I have been using the new unit for a few weeks now and I AM VERY HAPPY TO HAVE IT BACK.

I would send in both of the units and have repairs done. I have had mine repaired and it was well worth the money. Similar to buying a car...you have to pay to maintain it or it will not work for you.

How were you mislead or cheated? You purchased an item that you loved, it had an issue and needed repair. You had it repaired and a year or more later it may need another perhaps small repair and you are some how mislead and cheated?
Target irons are great for simple ironing if you have the time. The Eurosteam is an iron with a boiler inside to create steam pressure that you can NEVER get from a Target iron. You cannot compare the two.
I, personally, feel that over the years you will dispose of your Target irons and get a new one all the time. I will have my unit repaired and maintained as needed and have the same amazing iron years from now and not be filling up the landfill with disposable junk.

I'm so sorry you were disappointed. I bought mine about 7 years ago. You do have to clean it with vinegar once in a while. I had it repaired once, but it's the GREATEST IRON I'VE EVER USED. I don't want to go back to another. You can go from one fabric to another, don't have to dampen cotton shirts, etc. Works on my husband's suits. Maybe you got one that wasn't good, but I'd highly recommend and am looking to get another so I won't ever have to go back to any other iron.

Saying that this product is poorly constructed is a complete understatement. The flimsy plastic that houses its interior fails to adequately support the heft of the iron. The handle grip made cracking noises during my initial use, and continues to do so. The plastic handle top is unsafe--it gets too hot to hold. Further, the top piece of plastic on the handle came off to expose electrical wires, as did the entire casing around the cord, and to the bottom of the iron. You will find sturdier plastic on a child's toy. This was a very expensive iron. For $200, the iron is one hot rip off! Shame on you EuroSteam.

Interesting observation. I bought mine at a Home and Flower Show more than 6 years ago. Unfortunately, I dropped it one too many times and this morning it lost its sole plate. I ran across your review. I am thinking maybe it was a manufacturing defect. I have had nothing but pleasure from the iron. The one thing that is essential is to empty it after every single use so the sediment does not build up. In addition it does require periodic "deep" cleaning per the instruction manual. I am so sorry you did not experience what I have. I am going to borrow a regular iron and hope not to burn my clothes until my replacement arrives.

Is there any chance that you are leaving your iron on but not used for more than 10 minutes at a time? There is a note to quilters on the bottom half of page 9 that says to press the steam button every 10 minutes that it is not in use but plugged in or the safety feature in the screw cap will release the steam through the screw cap. Personally I am glad that the safety feature is there.

For some reason, only half my review posted. This is the full one:
I was interested in this iron when an exhibitor was demonstrating it at the PNE in Vancouver, B.C. Came across the same iron at the Vancouver Home & Design show and purchased it. Apparently this iron only works at shows. A recurring theme about the problems of the iron is the water leakage. I think \"pour\" is a more appropriate term as it completely soaks your clothes through to the ironing board. Just using it now, expecting the iron to be hot enough, I pressed the steam button and water shot out of the iron completely soaking my wall, couch and floor. Going online to file a complaint, I come across their troubleshoot page. I guess the iron needs to be \"primed\" which requires the use of 1 of 2 methods. Either wait for the boiler for 15 minutes or repeat some step 5-7 times. For crying out loud, if I have to wait 15 minutes, I could have ironed 5 shirts already with my $25.00 Black and Decker iron!!! Which I will be using again! The only upside is that I didn't spend the $299.00 that some reviewers have. I paid the $150.00 show price. It's not worth the teflon pad that it sits on. Completely useless. If you're interested, I would suggest reading their troubleshoot page first: http://redfernent.com/euroiron-faq-troubleshooting.html

I would suggest that maybe you havent tightened the nob where you put the water in. I have had mine for 5 years and LOVE it. Never have yet burnt my hands. I sew, crafts, have 5 kids so am forever ironing everything including tea towels. Try again something is very wrong if you are burning yourself. You are suppose to use distilled water. That is ultra critical.

They spit, they overheat, they require frequent refilling, they melt and the cord on one needed replacing. I don't know why they are so costly when they are so 'disposable'. I really enjoyed using it (when it worked) I quilt and it was great for that. Each iron lasted less than a year - so if you are willing to pay that much each year then give it a try. I would really like to... (read more)

Purchased the iron at a home show. Demo was great. We felt a bit pricey but made the purchase anyway. It is very overrated. It does a good job ironing everything however there were problems. The handle gets very hot. The steam button constantly sticks. It runs out of steam in about two or three garments. Have to let cool down before refilling. The back plate cracked and had to be replaced. It is much heavier than a normal iron. I will not buy another one. (read more)

I bought this iron at a trade show. The demonstration was very convincing but when I began to use it I was disappointed. It runs out of water quickly and you end up filling it 3 or 4 times per ironing session. My biggest compaint about it is the handle. After about 6 months I noticed the handle was sticky. With time it is getting worse and worse. I have now had to take nail polish remover to see if I can get off the gummy coating that is all over the handle. If I can't get it off I will not... Yes, I have this problem too!! I was getting so frustrated and happened to Google 'sticky handle Euro Steam iron' and found your comment! Today I tried 409, Magic Eraser and Goo Gone--nothing worked! I'd love to know if you find a solution. I don't like using it with that sticky handle :(

Same problem, feel a little ripped off...I wrapped the handle in a gauze pad. It's just the right size and feels a lot better. The stickiness won't wash off. The handle must be made from the wrong material.
Don't buy this iron.

I had the same experience. You can't get rid of the stickiness. I just wrapped the handle in gauze. I used a gauze pad from our first aid kit - it's the right size. It fixes the problem, but it's ridiculous to have to bandage your iron handle isn't it?!

I have tried over 20 irons from 50 dollars to $600.00 and this one it's the BEST. No settings no starch needed and it's super fast. The downfault is that you have to constantly put water but with the time you save it's worth every penny. Everyone in my family owns one now. I cAN SEE MYSELF WITHOUT IT. (read more)

Just wait till you you've had it for a bit more; I guarantee you won't be raving about it when the water starts spewing out and the steam is comeing out of where you pour in the water and the handle and steam buttom are too hot to touch. Read your warranty and see how far you get with that! It's an expensive PIECE OF JUNK!

I bought this iron on a sewing show 3 years ago. At home I noticed that a piece broke off. When I tried to contact the customer service, I thought that this company is actually not existing. Neither e-mail nor telephone was answered. So I thought that $300 were a waist. 3 weeks and several e-mails later I finally got a mail from them. But as an inpatient sewer I tried the iron meanwhile, liked it and never send it in.(warranties anyway do not cover labor)
Once it's heated up to steam (after...

I have had this iron for about 4 1/2 years and it dropped and now will not heat up. While trying to find someone to repair it I have gone thru 3 other irons trying to find one that will work as good as this one. Finally found an on line site where I could purchase a new one and I am. Yay will finally have the best iron anywhere back again. (read more)

Have owned my Eurosteam for 6 yrs, sending it in for a minor repair now. I'm also going to purchase a second one in case this ever happens again. I despise ironing but this iron makes it so much easier. For those of you who dislike it, you must be doing something wrong.

I just bought this iron at the Vancouver Design Show, and it seemed to work at the show, but the one I brought home is a different story.
I bought it to use it vertically and iron hanging clothes. Even on its strongest setting, the iron is not efficient, and does not take care of more than half the wrinkles.
After I steamed my shirts, I had to lay them on the ironing table, and iron them the normal way; which my $20 iron did just as good.
Overall, a total waste of money!

I bought this iron from a home show on January 28, 2006. I have loved it! It just now stopped working correctly - not sure why yet. But the fact that it can be used on all fabrics - even the most delicate - with no fear of burning, melting or krinkling makes it worth the extra cost. I'm going to another home show tomorrow to get a new one and then will have the old one repaired for a backup. I'm lost without it! (read more)
