I have been a customer for several years and problems have arisen. However, they guys are contactable and, in the main, problems have been addressed and resolved. Albeit with a poor understanding of what the customer is experiencing. The latest problem - installation by them of a new spam filter - means that my personal email facility has been compromised for several weeks and is now virtually un-useable. A series of "quick fixes" have been implemented but matters have just got worse. Without a reliable and functional email facility via UKhost4u, I am now looking to migrate elsewhere.

I have had the simple issue three times, the email would not get into the inbox, i.e. would get lost inside their servers. No senior staff by name Will, no support at ukhost4u, too bad if it is all they can is to follow the handbook. If this are not written in the book, tech support is lost, waiting till Mon when Will comes back to work.

I am writing Ukhost4u.com review after being a customer of this company for exactly 5 years. I have experience of being a customer of Ukhost4u, Easyspace, Hostpapa and few others over the past 7 years or so. I ranked Ukhost4u as 2 out 5 starts and here are what I liked and what I did not liked all. Like: 1. It is easy to setup account and start using their hosting. One can order domain, setup subdomains and emails etc., and start building the website within the day. 2. Various payment options are available. Prompt reaction on pending/outstanding payment. Dislike: 1. Reported excellent uptime of Ukhost4u servers is not reflected by my experience. I experienced multiple HTTP Error 503 - Service unavailable (means that the Web server (running the Web site) is currently unable to handle the HTTP request due to a temporary overloading or maintenance of the servers). Live helpdesk was responding that there is nothing wrong with the server. Once I have even raised the ticket to the helpdesk as we were uploading website and server stopped responding in the middle of it which was very frustrating. Response was the same. 2. Limited space on hosting plans, limited MySQL databases etc. Large hosting providers are moving away from these limitations and I personally move to Hostpapa just because of this. I need cloud storage and unlimited space would mean a lot for me. 3. Major disappointment is the customer service. Unlike other reviewers of Ukhost4u (IMHO: whose reviews look pretty much the same) I am not satisfied with customer service. Ukhost4u automatic response templates (that notify you about opening account, settings, notifications about outstanding invoices) are written much more politely than live response of sales people, including Paul. After 5 years with Ukhost4u I decided to change domain and move to unlimited hosting with Hostpapa. Unfortunately, I was not able to download my content and database backups before the invoice for renewal of the hosting & domain was due. So I kindly asked to let me download content from public_html (I did not even mentioned MySQL) or ZIP it and let me download by one-time link. First of all, I did not even got response on my request. I was offered the guidelines on how to close account and that's all. Only after writing to Ukhost4u manager (Paul) I got the response that I need to pay the invoice for renewal of the hosting for another year and only after I will be able to download my content. Conclusion: With automated systems it is super easy to get domain, setup hosting and start building your website. Almost all hosting providers use such systems and it is hard to be "better" or "worse" than others. What really makes a difference is a quality of customer service and their desire to make customer happy even if customer decides to leave. After being with Ukhost4u for 5 years I expected at least some more than just a "cold" response: "I am afraid one an account has been suspended due to non payment the only way to get a copy of the files should you need them is to pay any outstanding invoices on the account" after just asking to download my own content from their servers. That is why I gave 2 stars out of 5. I would not recommend this hosting company to any of my colleagues or friends. Even larger companies that are supposed to have worse service are much more flexible and customer-friendly.

Fortunately, I was only a "customer" with UKhost4u for a short time. I wish I had never been a customer of the organisation. I made the mistake of accepting a recommendation from a web developer - I thought I could trust. So, lesson number 1, never accept a recommendation from a web developer to use a web hosting company. They are probably a reseller and will get commission or reduced fees for their own web hosting activity.
Lesson number 2 - never have your domain name registered with the same company that provides web hosting fro that domain. Again, I made the mistake of doing this with UKhost4u. I transferred my domain name as I thought it made sense to have it mamaged by my web hosting company. It does not make sense to do that and I would recommend that anyone who has such an arrangement with Ukhost4u should immediately arrange a transfer of the domain name - especially if they are just starting out in business and have not yet built up their Sales. Otherwise, if you do have a major problem with UKhost4u - like I did - you may find it very difficult to extract yourself from UKhost4u.
Lesson number 3. Do your research before you select a web hosting company. Ukhost4u describe themselves on their website as The U.K.s premier web hosting company. In my opinion, that is a total mis-description. Indeed, I doubt very much if UKhost4u are the premier web hosting company in Fife (where they are based) yet alone the U.K!
Lesson number 4. Don't believe some of the positive reviews on this website. If Ukhost4u are so good, how come, they don't let all their "satisfied" customers leave testimonials on their website? My view is that the testimonials are selected by the owner - to only show the good points. Don't be taken in by those testimonials.
