I have let my property through Townends in Guildford for a number of years on a "fully managed" basis. Since the management and maintenance dept has been transferred to Chertsey, the whole set up has become a complete shambles. The accounts department are unpredictable in terms of transferring funds to my account and the support from the maintenance team is absolutely appalling. They do not respond to email. They never answer the phone - you get put on hold with some sickly message saying how great they are. Inspections have been missed and the when tenants report problems they do not pass these on.
They have even sent through official documents to me via email without a proper letterhead, expecting me to print them out myself. What exactly I am paying them for, I don't know. I will DEFINITELY NOT be planning to renew the tenancy agreement with them.

The service is SO BAD it's OUTRAGEOUS and SHOCKING. I don't usually write reviews, but feel compelled to let others know.

If I could give zero stars I would!

    AVOID AT ALL COSTS!!!

I almost rented a falt from Townends but I am very glad that the deal fell through after reading so many negatives reviews on this and other sites. No other agent has had more negative publicity.

The thing that alarmed me most was the fact that I was expected to sign over to the companys preferred utility supplier Scttish Gas. It is interesting to note that one reviewer suddenly found their gas supply cut off??? Maybe this is how Townends deal with tenants who query the constant demand for yet ...

The flat was in a terrible condition when we entered it. We had to do a lot of cleaning and there was still a lot of old rubbish left in the flat. When we left the flat, we did a lot of cleaning and cleared most stuff out. Suddenly an inventory that we had never seen, appeared and every spot on the wall and every missing piece of rubbish was marked. During the lease, it was not possible to get any copies of documents, such as the tenancy agreement. Halfway during the tenancy period, the gas supp ...

House hunting: Member of staff was a no-show.
The House: Stunning and good value for money.
    Fees: £2500 deposit + £150 per person credit check + Admin + Inventory + + +
Rent: Not bad - advised landlord to put rent up after 1 year with £100. OK... Charged £150 for new contract + had to sign for another year with new 6 month brake clause!
Then: Wife and I split 2 months later and she wants to take her name off the contract. Can't do it unless.... you've guessed it.... ...

Went into The Egham branch today, needed a 4 bedroom house for me and 3 student mates. This is what they asked for :- £250 each holding deposit + £100 each admin'fee + £30 each credit check fee +£100 check in and check out fee, and don't forget the VAT. If there were any extras I did'nt wait to find out.Of course if things go wrong we don't get our money back. When asked about the deposit protection scheme, they didn't understand.

They are great when you are looking for a property, but when things go wrong they just don't want to know.

There was a problem with the flat we were going to move into, and they didn't know how long it was going to take, so we couldn't move in on the contracted date. We waited for a few weeks because we really liked the flat, but when we still didn't have a definite move in date (only the builders estimate), we decided to look for a new flat.

To start with Townends estate agents were gr ...

The Putney branch of Townends Estate Agents helped me to find a nice flat, but after I decided to live there, their helpfulness disappeared. The reference service they used was utterly useless. They contacted all my references at least twice, and they contacted me about 5 times - every 2 hours with a new problem. Surely they could have organised everything to phone everybody only once. They also seemed to contradict themselves a number of times.

Secondly, I told them before I got the flat tha ...
