“THE WORST TOOTHPASTE EVER!!!”

I used this toothpaste for two days now on the first day my right after using it my lip began peeling and the roof of my mouth was blistered so i was wondering if its too strong for me the second day of using it one side of .my cheek is swollen it feels like there's a big lump in there I'm also in pain as well, when I looked in my mouth I saw a big blood clot on the inside of my other cheek so I'm wondering what caused this swelling but upon looking at these reviews I realized its the... “Do not use”

I used this toothpaste with awful results, first my tongue turned white. Doctor prescribed thrush medication for 2 weeks and did not get better. Then I developed a sore throat, burning tongue, lips and fleshy bumps in my mouth. Very uncomfortable, and stressfull ! After three doctor visits, I did a little research on the toothpaste, and saw several similar experiences. I stopped using it 4 days ago and my mouth is finally feeling better. (read more)

I've been suffering from heavy chapped lips thinking to my self what the hell is happening to me!! For i've never had something like this happened to me before. “The PAIN!!”

This is a poor excuse for toothpaste. I've used Arm and Hammer before with no issues but this complete care extra whitening toothpaste with peroxide has done horrible things to my mouth. I'm expressing similar symptoms as many others have...sore gums, aching mouth, canker sores and drying corners of my mouth. Since I've stopped using the toothpaste, the dry corners of my mouth have healed. I DO NOT recommend this product unless you wish to inflict complete agony on your mouth. (read more)
“The ABSOLUTE worst!!!”

The only reason it gets one star is because it wouldnt let me keep it a zero stars :( Two days after purchasing the Arm and Hammer toothpaste I began to feel a slight discomfort. I chalked it up to some spicy food I had eaten. Now, I have THEE ABSOLUTE WORST case of dry mouth ever! I actually thought I was allergic to a food or had a vitamin defficiency--even bought expensive lip creams and went to my doctor. My husband began to have issues as well and he trouble-shooted he thought it was this toothpaste. Threw it in the garbage and all is well. No excuses Arm and Hammer. (read more)

I used this product 2 X with the same awful experience. The very first time I had large lumpy knots in my cheeks, raw red tissue with swelling under the tongue, on the gums,and blisters in the corners of my mouth and on my lips. My tongue was swollen, raw and white. The entire mouth was thick and swollen enough that the outside of my cheeks was swollen. I thought the jalopeno dip I had the night before was the culpret. I used this for the first time tonight and through away the tube. The only reason I am on line looking at reviews is to see if other people have had the same experience. The inside of my mouth tastes funny, not clean, and the skin on the inside of my lips is peeling off in thin layers. I used a facecloth to scrub this stuff off the inside of my lips and cheeks. “Horrible experience overall”

Used the Arm & Hammer with Peroxide toothpaste for 4 nights and suddenly, my lips became numb and the inside of my lips at the corners became cracked and peeled. SCARED me, since I recently had oral surgery, and became extremely upset. I immediately stopped using that toothpaste, but, my lips are still numb, 3 days later. I checked online for a "cure", and was shocked to see that this happened to many other people. WHY IS THIS PRODUCT ON THE MARKET? This "reputable" company should be sued... (read more)

3 months of walking round with hideous sores in the corners of my mouth and huge amounts of skin peeling off in side my mouth (i'm 30! and never ever had mouth problems before!), visiting the doctors who thought it was vitamin deficiency! So glad I looked this up, I have been suffering for weeks with a swollen painful tongue that has now turned white. It really frightened me to think of all the possibilities of what it could be. I would think that the FDA would require them to list possible side effects on their package. We all know Arm and Hammer is aware of these issues. Several weeks after using arm and hammer total care my lips started to swell and peel. Since I had been to the ocean I though probably sunburn. Two more weeks past and not better except I began to experience a sore mouth and tongue. After two months and two visits to my primary health care physician, I was referred to an alergist who discussed my history. He brought up toothpaste as a possible source of the problem. This company should be SUED!!!! From reading these reviews I am only one of MANY who has suffered unfortunate side effects of this product. I used to use Zendium toothpaste for whitening my teeth. It helped me alot, but since I moved I couldn't find this toothpaste and I saw Arm and Hammer in the television ads and thought I'd have a go. I have felt the numbness in my lips and tongue for 2 weeks now, I could not figure out what was the cause. It felt like when you burn your mouth on something really hot. I was trying to think what I have been eating different or what vitamins have changed when I finally realized that I had started using the Arm and Hammer toothpaste about 2 weeks ago. Same here, surely this product should be taken off the market??
My partner and I have suffered mouth ulcers, burning and numbness, very painful and distressing.
Will try and find out which health department to report this to.

I had the same experience. I too contacted the company over a month ago and never received a response from them. If you get the allergic reaction it is fairly severe and I suggested that they expand the label warning to include the exact recurring symptoms that affected people get because it's not intuitive that these problems are from the toothpaste. I've used various Arm & Hammer toothpaste products for years without incident so it NEVER occured to me that what I was experiencing was from the Extra Whitening variety. They would save people time, money and pain if they would just be specific about what can occur if you are one of the people having an allergic reaction. If you're not impacted, it's a fine product. But many people are experiencing severe reactions from this product. My symptoms went away within days of discontinuing usage.

omg I thought I had something serious wrong with me, my mouth has a dry burning sensation, the tip of mty tongue is just numb I cant taste anything it feels swollen my lips have skin pealing from them... I stumbled on here trying to find some seriuos condition and thank God I found this I will never use this product again, they must have chenged the formula because I used this years ago wth any problems. I called Arm and Hammer (phone number on the back of the toothpaste) and they said they changed the formula after I told them I had an horrible case of dry mouth for weeks.....after opening a new tube of toothpaste...the same toothpaste I've been using for years.....then I went on vacation and left my toothpaste at home....used my mothers and no dry mouth....got home four days later...brushed with my arm and hammer and suddenly developed dry mouth....that's why I called and complained....and they told me the had changed the formula....why change the formula when it was a great toothpaste....now I will never buy it again...I suspect it could affect your health after prolonged use....btw my tube did not say made in the USA like all my old tubes did...that's why I started buying it in the first place....they need to change it back to the old formula or remove it from the market!

I couldn't figure out why my mouth was feeling so dry...until I found this forum on the internet. After reading all the feedback, I made the connection between this toothpaste and the dry mouth sensation I have been experiencing. The skin on the inside of my lower lip, feels like it's peeling away...leaving it feeling kind of sticky to the touch. I've been using this toothpaste for 3 days now. For the past 3 days I've had skin sloughing off the inside of my lip. It comes off in very thin but intact sheets/strings and looks pretty disgusting. i have used Arm and Hammer products for a while now (including Advanced Whitening) and really like the products. never had a problem with excessive dryness or sore mouth and really like the whitening effect. I'm so glad I happened upon this site. I was trying to search to find out what is wrong with the inside of my mouth...the inside of my lips feel dry and wrinkled almost puckered like they have been burned. There is also a numbing sensation. My mouth has been so dry that my cheeks were actually stuck to my teeth two mornings in a row. I'm throwing this toothpaste away and will never buy it again! The whitening ability of this toothpaste is greater than any other whitening toothpaste I've ever tried. I didn't like it when I first tried it. It was abrasive and left my gums feeling raw. I decided to continue using it however, applying the paste to my teeth only, which took away the discomfort. (read more)

Although the effects of whitening on my teeth was apparant. An unpleasant side effect is the apparant "stripping" of a thin layer of skin around the inside of my lips and mouth lasting several hours after use, also very unpleasant burning sensationaround my mouth on rinsing after use. (read more)

I have been using Arm & Hammer Complete Care Extra Whitening with Baking Soda and Peroxide for about three weeks now -I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS TOOTHPASTE!!!. In the last week I have noticed my mouth being very dry as well as my lips. Given that nothing else in my 'diet' changed I quickly narrowed it down to this toothpaste. I thought this product was really good, I have noticed in the space of a week that my teeth are whiter and cleaner than before. Okay so it's not going to give you bright white teeth like the stars, but only laser surgery can do that. I agree that is can make your mouth dry at times, but overall I think it's the only whitening tooth paste which atually works on the market and on the plus side it's not full of chemicals that can weaken teeth. I think the Arm And Hammer people should look in to this as me and de etta can,t be the only ones to have suffered this. I, also, have had a very unpleasant experience with using this toothpaste. It was frightening at first and very uncomfortable. I am so glad I found that I am not the only one to have this problem. I hate to stop using it because it really does a good job on my teeth but isn't worth the sore lips and mouth.

I thought Arm & Hammer should know that the extra whitening toothpaste was extremely abrasive and left my mouth with a strange 'dry' feeling that did not go away. (The Arm & Hammer whitening toothpaste, on the other hand, which I had used just before switching to the 'extra' had no ill effects). I was told by my dental hygenist that my reaction could be due to the foaming agent in the toothpaste.
I have not used the toothpaste for 1 1/2 weeks now and am still in discomfort. My hygenist...
